Just another boring day at campus for Lance. His classes were hours apart but there was no use in going back home for a few minutes just to have to come crawling back, so he just had to sit and wait for his next lecture, no friends around :( Hunk had class and Pidge had already gone home, so there he sat at the campus cafe. His laptop was open but nothing was getting done, it rarely did but he didn’t want to look like some loner sitting there.
Just as he was about to give up, he saw a familiar face walk into the cafe with someone. Who? It didn’t matter. What mattered was that he knew someone and could talk to them! He wasn’t particularly close with James Griffin, he knew him in high school and hung around similar people. He wouldn’t call the two of them friends, he didn’t even remember the last time they said anything more than a polite hello to each other.
“James! Old buddy, old pal!” He cheered, getting up and loosely linking an arm around James’ shoulders, “Long time no see, huh?”
“What?” James asked, trying to process the situation, “Hi Lance? Do you need something?”
“Nope, just wanted to catch up with my bu-” he paused, his eyes catching a guy next to James. A beautiful, beautiful man with an unfortunate haircut but other than that… wow! The way those gorgeous dark blue-ish almost purple eyes looked at Lance with pure confusion, “Woah! Who’s your friend?”
“Is that what you wanted? My friend?” James asked jokingly, “This is-”
“Hello, I’m Keith.” The guy gave a small, just barely there smile.
“Hey Keith!” Lance grinned, “How come I’ve never seen you around these parts, huh? Been hiding from me?”
Keith looked over at James.
James rolled his eyes as he gently shoved Lance off him, “He’s not from ‘around these parts’. I met him when studying abroad. He came for a visit.”
“I thought I was your ‘old buddy, old pal’ and you don’t even remember a whole year while I was gone? I’m hurt,” James scoffed, “yeah I went to Japan last year.”
“I didn’t know that was an option. I want to meet hotties abroad too,” Lance sighed before winking at Keith, “though I doubt any of them would compare to you.”
“Weren’t you studying or something?” James asked, his voice seemed normal but there was a trace of annoyance in there, Lance ignored it.
“Yeah, but I think Keith over here is way more interesting.”
“You know you can tell him to leave you alone, right?” James whispered to Keith, loud enough for Lance to hear.
Keith laughed at him, saying something Lance couldn’t understand one bit. Damn other languages, why couldn’t everyone just speak the languages he knew so he could understand everything at any given time, sigh…
“Are you making fun of me?” Lance pouted dramatically, “So mean…” he sighed.
“Oh, no, no, I’m sorry,” Keith smiled politely, “I wasn’t saying anything mean.”
“Hm… alright, I guess I’ll trust ya,” Lance nodded, “so… you two met like a year ago, yeah? Was James studying at your college or something?”
Keith nodded, “We’re doing the same degree course.”
Lance paused, trying to remember any conversation he had with James where he mentioned his major, “Oh. Cool, so you guys are studying… y’know stuff.”
“Aerospace Engineering.” James finished the sentence for him.
“Yeah that stuff,” Lance nodded, “super smart space stuff. You wanna be a rocket scientist or something?”
Keith shook his head, “I want to go to space. To be a…” he looked to James, but before James had the chance to speak, Lance did it for him.
“Astronaut?” Lance asked.
“Yes, an astronaut,” Keith smiled, “thank you. Sorry, I completely forgot the word.”
“No prob, just call me a mind reader,” Lance grinned.
“He wanted me to do it but whatever,” James mumbled to himself, receiving a bigger grin from Lance as he heard.
“You jealous I already know Keith wayyy better than you do?”
“You’ve known him for five minutes,” James rolled his eyes, “plus anyone could guess what he was trying to say.”
