Friends force friends to try new things, right? At least, that’s what Will thought when he strongarmed his best friend Mike into auditioning for Mr. Clarke's summer play with him. He never expected Hawkins Community Theater’s production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ to dredge up feelings he’d long since packed away– and Mike surely never thought he’d be taking center stage. In other words, Will Byers is a theatre gay and Mike Wheeler would follow him to the ends of the earth.

Mike feels Will’s gaze on him and although it isn’t harsh, he still doesn’t feel like he can breathe. The only point he finds himself incapable of contesting is that they wouldn’t ever see each other. Mike knows what a rift feels like between Will Byers and himself, it’s not his favorite. He thoughtfully tugs on the gray-blue collar of his t-shirt. Will’s got him pinned down. Literally, how is he supposed to argue against that?

“I don’t want to not see you,” Mike grumbles reluctantly, profusely avoiding eye contact when he says it. He brings his hands to his eyes to rub them for a second, “Did you ask–? Is anyone else doing it?” A deep sigh follows and Mike drops his hands, looking at Will, “Okay. Yeah. Fuck It. Yeah. What do I have to do?” He isn’t excited about this. At all. But summer was already hell before he agreed.
