Hi Tumblr! I’m excited to announce that I am joining the DCP for Fall 2022! Can’t wait to start writing on this blog again!
Is there anything you didn't get to do on your program that you wish you did?
So much! I wish I would have spent more time as a guest in Animal Kingdom, especially Pandora and Dinoland. I had a goal of riding every ride in MK, but never finished it. I wish I had gotten the chance to do a character dining and Be Our Guest. I never saw Fantasmic, but I was blocked out of Studios so I never got the opportunity. Point is, I kept thinking that I’d have time to do all that, but never did. Take every opportunity you’re given!
Best Places for...
A masterlist of the best places for pictures, show viewings, and food!
Magic Kingdom:
Pictures with Cinderella Castle- on the ramp in front of the castle
Viewing Festival of Fantasy- the road that runs from Liberty Square to the front of Adventureland (think in front of Country Bear Jamboree). It’s normally a lot less crowded than Main Street!
Viewing Happily Ever After- if you’re too close, you won’t be able to see the fireworks well. If you’re too far away, you won’t be able to see the projections. I recommend camping out behind Walt and Mickey’s statue, at the edge of the road, about an hour before it starts.
Viewing Mickey’s Friendship Faire- if you’re with kids, try to get as close as possible because they can interact with the characters. However, if you’re viewing the show for the aesthetic value, stand further back so that you can see everything on stage.
Quick Service Food- I recommend Pecos Bill in Adventureland (Mexican food that will fill you up without draining your bank account), Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square (Colonial American cuisine with familiar favorites), Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square (great food, but limited options), and Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland (Italian, pasta, pizza, salad, etc)
Sit Down Dining- If you can get a dinner reservation for Be Our Guest, do it!! I was never able to get in, but everyone I’ve talked to has said it’s incredible. If you’re a fan of Pirates, Tortuga Tavern is the way to go. If you dine at The Crystal Palace, you can be visited by the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood.
Epcot:
Pictures with Spaceship Earth- right beyond security, to the left of the Monorail. It’s where the Leave A Legacy section used to be, if you visited Epcot before they moved it! (Creds to my friend Amie for passing on this info on to me before I left for Disney!)
Pictures around the World Showcase- I have no special tips for getting pictures in front of icons of the countries. The only one I’ve had problems with is the fountain in Italy. Normally, if you glare hard enough at the people sitting there, they’ll move eventually. You didn’t hear that from me.
Viewing Epcot Forever- Full disclosure, I never had the chance to see the full show. But, for what I know and what little I have seen, I can tell you that the best place to view the show is the Showcase Plaza, between Port of Entry and Traders.
Quick Service Food- The wonderful thing about Epcot is the enormous amount of variety you have before you. BUT, if you still want recommendations, I’ve got ‘em for you. Lotus Blossom Cafe in China, Sommerfest in Germany (next to Biergarten), Regal Eagle Smokehouse (not my personal favorite, but highly praised), and Crepes des Chefs de France in... you’ve guessed it- France.
Sit Down Dining- La Hacienda de San Angel in Mexico, you can participate in Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Norway, Nine Dragons Restaurant in China, Biergarten in Germany (the waiters are cute, trust me), Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria in Italy, Spice Road Table in Morocco, Chefs de France in France, and Rose and Crown Pub in the UK.
Animal Kingdom:
This is my park, so I might be a little biased.
Pictures with the Tree of Life- If you want the full tree in the background, walk down to where they hold the Winged Encounters experience. People can’t get beyond the fence, so pose there! If you want a closer up photo that doesn’t have the whole tree, walk down one of the animal viewing trails or check out the Tree of Life Garden.
Viewing the Tree of Life Awakenings- As is with Happily Ever After, if you’re too close to the tree, you won’t be able to see the full projections. My favorite place to stand is between Island Mercantile and Discovery Trading Company, but again, that’s where I worked so I’m biased.
Quick Service Food- Flame Tree Barbecue! Might I suggest Flame Tree Barbecue? Harambe Market in Africa, Satu’li Canteen in Pandora, and Eight Spoon Cafe.
Sit Down Dining- Tiffins, Yak & Yeti Restaurant in Asia, and Tusker House in Africa.
I really, really wish I could give you guys tips for Hollywood Studios, but unfortunately, cast members were blocked out of Studios for the period of time that I was there. I can tell you that Backlot Express is fantastic for quick service food.
What I Wish I Knew
-Bring two forms of ID (a driver’s license and a SS card or birth certificate) -You’ll need 4-5 business casual outfits. One for Traditions, and the rest for your additional training. -Bring your own work shoes! They are not provided! They must be all black athletic shoes, and do not plan on getting them when you arrive in Orlando. You will not find any. -Bring a car. For the love of all things Disney, if you are able, bring a car. I won’t go into details but the bus system sucks and the buses are nasty. -You may not get along with your roommates. However, you are stuck with them for the next 4-6 months, so try to compromise and make the best of it. -Live every day like it’s going to be your last day, because there could be a global pandemic that shuts the world down and sends you home. Don’t have regrets.
Saying Goodbye
I never imagined how quickly my life could flip upside down. One minute, I’m happy as a lark, exploring Magic Kingdom with my friends, and the next, I’m being told that my program is over and I have to move out within 4 days.
So many tears were shed as I was forced to leave my friends, my coworkers, and the place that I’d started to call my home. The last day in Magic Kingdom was magical, as every cast member went out of their way to make all the CPs feel loved and appreciated.
I will continue to update this blog with magical experiences, and tips for future CPs!
What would you like to see?
In the meantime, enjoy some pictures from my last week:
My First Week
Traditions, Ops, and training tiers, oh my!
I had a full week of training. I started with Traditions on Saturday. I was fortunate enough to sit with a girl I had met at Casting and her friends. We sat in a classroom for a few hours and went through the basics of working at Disney. Then, we got to explore a small bit of Magic Kingdom and report back what we saw that coincided with what we learned.
Operations took place on Sunday. For future DCPers reading this- bring coffee and lots of it.
Merchandise Core was on Monday. That is technically classified as Tier II training. We got to learn on registers and play-act situations that will arise in our stores.
DAKlimation was my last day of classroom training. After the classroom learning, we split into groups and went all over Animal Kingdom to learn our areas.
The next step for me was Tier I and III training, which is on-site. I was paired with one other girl for our store training. DAK is a really fun place to work and I’ve genuinely liked everyone I’ve met so far.
I have this weekend off, which is relieving, and I’m hoping to go to one of the parks. If anyone has questions about the DCP or training, please send me an ask!
I’ve arrived!
This past week has been so hectic. I left on Friday the 17th for Orlando. I moved into my apartment (at Vista Way) yesterday and I love it! The pool is located right outside of my building and the bus stop is a 30 second walk. I spent a couple days at the parks before move-in day and today, my roommates and I explored Disney Springs. We just got back from the welcome event (ours was Frozen themed) where we met a lot of people. Pro tip: make sure you exchange numbers/social medias with whoever you talk to and hit it off with. Learned that the hard way. My Traditions starts Saturday, but I still have some Casting stuff to wrap up before that. Tomorrow will be another busy day. Wish me luck!
Pictures from my week:
I’ll post room pics and more about my apartment when I finish unpacking!
