“You won’t find a way. There isn’t one,” he said easily, rolling his eyes as he fully believed there was no point to hope. He stood up finally, wishing he’d done this the moment she sat down, “have a brilliant fucking day.”

“You say that like I don’t look good every night,” Mickey teased him. She studied him for a moment, tilting her head a little. “You seem smilier than I usually see you.” It was hard not to recognise Kylar’s face – even if they didn’t run in the same circles, exactly – she noticed him. Usually looking more grumpy. “That grin suits you, you know.”

Kylar nearly laughed at what she said, having seen her around before and appreciated how open she always seemed to be. “I’ve had a bit to drink,” he admitted with a smirk, “Though not completely inebriated, so still top form.” He gave a small smile at the mention of his features, dropping his gaze for a moment as he didn’t want to think of the reasons he usually didn’t smile. “Your outfit suits you,” he said, his gaze moving over her form without shame, “Very well.”

The war changed everything, forcing everyone to adapt to the new conditions, which took away most if not all of their freedom. Constance felt a blush creep up on her face from the compliment. “Thank you.” She smiled, “And I have no plans, but I think I might have some if I play my cards right.” She grinned. Her thoughts were sure to betray her better judgement, but alas, she had no care in the world.

“And what do those cards say?” Kylar asked with a smirk forming on his lips, pleased by the pink on her cheeks, knowing he was the one causing it. It was empowering and something he needed after too much time in the slave mindset. He wanted to be free of his worries and cares, and this woman seemed like the perfect escape. “I think I have one or two for you,” he grinned, leaning against the wall as they spoke, “Tell me your name. I’m Kylar.”

Constance nodded, “Yeah. I’m alone.” She says nonchalantly, eying the veins popping out of his neck. “I know.. the cells, they’re so small and cramped.” She sighed, “But I’m really not here to talk about being a slave. For tonight, I am just a human woman.”

Even she knew the consequences for her actions, however, she didn’t care. She needed time, to feel like a human again - more importantly, to feel like a woman again.

Kylar watched her gaze shift and wondered what she was thinking just then, but didn’t dare ask. “You’re a beautiful woman,” he commented easily, reminding him of his days before the War. He was young then and frequented the bars, picking up women all the time. He hadn’t done this in so long that it made him feel like he was that man once again. He stepped closer to her and gave a small smile, “What were your plans for tonight then, as a human woman?”

Constance blushed, brushing her hair behind her ear as she glanced down at her drink. She flashed him a sweet smile. Swallowing her pride, she walked closer to the strange man. “Thank you.” She grinned, “You don’t look too bad yourself.” She purred. 

Kylar smiled a little and took another drink of his beer, setting the empty glass down afterwards. “I know,” he commented as he glanced around, “You here alone? Not often that us slaves get time to ourselves.” He adjusted his shirt, stretching his neck as the collar shifted when he spoke.

Kylar was fired up, near drunk and exhausted, but not ready to go back to his cell just yet. He wanted to relieve tension but there wasn’t anyone willing. He’d been at the bar, drank a few and when he saw someone come in, he approached them without overthinking on it much before acting. “You look good tonight,” he hummed, taking a final sip of his beer as he looked the other over.

Kylar wasn’t sure how he’d gotten in this position, kissing in the shower and having the woman he’d adored once more. Work hours and tense life often got in the way of their interactions, leaving them too tired or burnt out to actually have fun. But tonight was an exception. They’d been allowed to leave work early for separate reasons and that brought her into his arms once again. The water from the shower dripped over their bodies as they kiss furiously, taking what they could have all over again. “You have to be quiet,” Kylar ordered through a particularly loud moan from Charlie and he chuckled in response, “Be a good girl for your Sir.”

“I don’t want to hit you,” she said exasperatingly. “Or well, I might, if you keep telling me to.” He was frustrating her, even if she understood him. She was sure she’d be a pain in the ass too, if she was a slave, but that didn’t make it easier for her to be patient with him. She shrugged when he said the angels and fae would get into trouble for being soft. “Maybe. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of someone being tagged as a traitor just for being soft, at least not after the war, but it’s definitely frowned upon by a lot of people.”

Kylar almost laughed at that, but knew better of himself, so he checked himself. His smirk quickly turned to his normal stoic expression. “Trust me on this, being soft doesn’t do you any good. Being kind isn’t worth it when a slave is still beaten to the point of passing out. It isn’t anything if it doesn’t get me out of this fucking collar!” He was near yelling by the end, breathing heavily and he stood, stamping out the rest of the cigarette. “See you around.”

Morgan fixed him with a deadpan look. “You’re an idiot if you think it works like that.” If she could just wave her hands and free everyone, she would, but it was far from that simple. The best she could offer was small kindnesses - insignificant, in the grand scheme probably -, like a cigarette. She was surprised when he urged her to hit him. She knew that humans were treated like shit around here, but still hadn’t expected that from him. “I’m not gonna be labeled a traitor for not hitting you,” she scoffed, taking a drag of her smoke. “There’s lots of people more soft than me. Look at the fucking angels or fairies.”

Kylar sighed and looked away for a moment, trying to decide how to respond to her, considering she was being nice compared to others. “I am a fucking idiot,” he admitted with a groan, wiping his hand over his face. “You’re a superior and you want to hit someone like me. Just admit and we can move on from this fantastic moment of having a smoke,” he said softly, not really wanting it, wanting to believe she was more than that, but couldn’t give in. “They are pretty soft,” he admitted with a dark chuckle, “It’s going to get them into trouble.”

Kylar knew he wasn’t the same person lately, yet hadn’t decided if it was for good or bad. He hadn’t been getting caught up in trouble lately, but still had the inkling for being mean to everyone around him. Though, some of the faes had proven themselves kinder than others. When he spotted one such fae across the street, he took the time to walk over and say something. He’d seen her at the ball and she’d looked radiant, but it was pointless to say those things out loud. “I think I owe you a coffee or something stupid like that,” he said as a greeting, knowing she’d only been looking for food the first night.

“Being observant hasn’t kept you alive, luck has. And guess what? Luck runs out and the universe wins again,” he spouted. He didn’t want to talk about the rash or why it was there, more annoying than anything else. “Just shut up. You’re annoying as hell.”

She sighed softly and might have even rolled her eyes at him.  “I’m sure too,” she quipped back at him.  She usually didn’t bother with most humans, so often too much trouble for their own good.  But there as something about him that she couldn’t just let go and she couldn’t begin to figure it out either.  “I’m not entirely sure but I can think of something.  I know a lot of magic, maybe you’d like a tail.  You’re bitter?  I really couldn’t tell,” she added, very sarcastically.  Granted she couldn’t really give him a tail but he didn’t know that.

Kylar rolled his eyes when she offered a tail, knowing that’d do nothing to help or hurt him. It would prove she was an annoying nothing, but it is what it is. He stared her down, waiting to see what she’d do but nothing happened. “You’re a big talker, aren’t you?” he finally scoffed, “I don’t see, or feel, a big fucking tail, so I win, princess.”

Morgan wasn’t offended at his rudeness. If anything, she saw some of herself in it. Their world wasn’t built for kindness, especially between strangers. “I wouldn’t like that either. If I was in your position, and you were in mine.” In the beginning of the establishment of this city, she had always wanted to defend why she was a so-called ‘superior’, why she hadn’t helped the humans, but she had long since given up on that. Her excuses meant nothing to them. “We can just sit her quietly.” She honestly didn’t mind the quiet, had never found the silences between people particularly uncomfortable.

Kylar knew he could be digging himself a hole by being so blunt, but at the moment he didn’t care. He didn’t want to have the collar and she was one of the reasons he still had one. “If I was in yours, I’d free me. So... differences,” he muttered softly. “Sitting quietly is good,” he sighed, taking another drag of the cigarette and glanced over. “No one is going to like you being nice to me,” he whispered, “They’re going to think you’re going soft and you’re a traitor. So might as well fucking hit me now and get on with it.”

The wolf sighed, shaking his head a little and crouched down to speak beside Kylar’s ear. “Well, right now you’re showing the lead councilman for the werewolves that your self-control is sorely lacking. So I’d suggest maybe you dig around for some. But I’m sure there are ways to teach you. You might not be able to help being – human. But you can help your attitude.”

“You’re guessing wrong,” Kylar snapped, recoiling as the other moved beside him, speaking in a tone that sent shivers down his spine. He didn’t say anything in response, as he had nothing to give this lowly Superior. Council or not, he was an asshole and Kylar wasn’t one to bow down to his ridiculous behavior. “You nothing about me,” he muttered under his breath, knowing full well the other would hear him perfectly.
