Shirley Temple in THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER (1947) dir. Irving Reis
I just had a gag idea! Kyle's trying to be all smooth introducing himself to a girl, so he leans over and puts his elbow on a fire hydrant so he can rest his chin on his fist. When he puts his elbow down, we head a little thud/clunk and second later, a jet of water blasts his legs and when it finally trickles to a hault, there's just nothing there where his legs were. There are feet, but it's almost like someone erased the part of his legs that the water sprayed.
Simm Simm Salabimm!
I doodled this in my spare time in class today.
Note: I do not encourage or condone not paying attention in class kids!
Beach Bunny
I thought I’d play with the term “Beach Bunny” and this is what came about.
In an effort to try to make her look more “40s” I gave her thick heeled sandals, high shorts, and a halter-neck bathing suit top. The cat’s-eye glasses, I hope, add some mystery...
Doodle Page 1
Just a doodle sheet cropped and with outlines of a ‘65 Thunderbird erased in the middle.
The Vaxley thing is just sort of a sign for some random company name that popped into my head that I could maybe use somewhere.
I’m really bad at drawing cars, especially the streamlined 30s-40s kinda cars that will populate Kyle’s world. It looks kinda okay, if you squint!
I want the world of Kyle the Fox to be old fashioned and that includes the formal wear. I thought the double-breasted dinner jacket made it look a bit more old-timey. Also, I never draw him with shoes, but I figured I might give him at least sorta formal sandals if he’s this dressed up.
HOLLYWOODLAND
I figured it would be fun to draw Kyle the Fox on the cover of one of those old Hollywood fan magazines. I had just seen Too Much, Too Soon (1958) so I decided to sorta parody Diana Barrymore’s name as one of the cover items.
I modeled his pose and the chair off of a photo I love of Frank Sinatra on the set of Anchors Aweigh (1945). See below...

Bellhops & Bearhops
I’d love to do something where Kyle’s working at some fancy hotel in San Francisco sometime!
I was saying “Bellhop” in a funny voice and it turned into “Bearhop” so decided to run with it!
Singin’ In The Rain
This is from close to two years ago. I drew the original smaller inlaid picture on the back of an AP Government quiz one rainy day and wanted to expand it into a full-pager.
Things Are Looking Up
I actually sketched this close to a year ago. I was telling a new friend about Kyle the Fox and I realized I didn’t have any drawings of him in my folder with me, so I made one out.
???
As this is a more complicated sketch, I decided not to go the usual trace over inking route and instead tried this.
Kyle The Fox - profile
Playing some of the Sam & Max games and finally watching Disney’s Robin Hood today for the first time made me want to get back into Kyle the Fox. I made a few clumsy attempts tonight, but I think this is the best of them. I should’ve spent more time on the thickness of some of the lines here, but it’s late and I should get some sleep!
A fancy walrus concept for Kyle the Fox. Perhaps he could be some villain?
I thought it would also be cool to every once-in-a-while have adventures with Kyle the Fox as a little kid in the roaring twenties.
In an effort to try to make him look younger and less developed I did a few things. . .
- His pants still have that “genie” fit, but are a little baggy and not as fitted. Because of this, they’re more like overalls as his suspenders are buttoned onto his pants like mickey mouse.
- His normally sharp red bow tie is floppy and more rounded
- His head and eyes are larger than his adult self
- the point on his tail is far more rounded so as to look innocent and cute
- The dark fur that for the older Kyle the Fox extends from on his forearm, only extends to just barely the wrist.
- I added an old fashioned newsboy cap
- lunch
One of the things I want to do with Kyle the Fox, while he’s going to be mainly set in a sort of pseudo-1940s, have episodes where he is for no reason, just in Ye Olde England. If Bugs Bunny can do it, why can’t he?
Possible nightclub/cabaret singer concept based off of Doris Day in Love Me Or Leave Me (1955). For the record, I did not trace one single line of this sketch.
Welcome to my Kyle The Fox blog, a home for the world of my cartoon character Kyle The Fox!
