Happy Diwali! First Podcast leggggooo
Back in 2001 when I started to listen to West Indian/Hindi/Bollywood Remix CD's I've always felt a strong connection to the genre. Where else could you hear a Bollywood song mixed with a reggae riddim or tassa sample? These guys were pioneers of their times. Sometimes they mixed house, chutney, soca, reggae, dancehall and top 40 into something you wouldn't ever hear.
They mixed genres and blended them together with wild abandon and represented something that we could've related too. Living in Toronto/Florida/New York and having links to back home in Guyana or Trinidad and the lingering cultural connection to India just gave us that feeling like we belonged in our hybrid state.
Hey! remember me?
I have quite busy over the past few months since opening up this blog. I found full time employment and currently work a variety of 9-5, 10-6 and 12-8 shifts. I deal with students, motivate them, ignite them and figure out why they want to go to school. Some of them want a better life, material possessions or just to start to do something else. I believe I have grown in six months and when I interact with students everyday a piece of me gets excited and motivated to do something.
As the winter subsided and the flowers started to bloom. I looked back on what I've done so far. Finishing up university I felt a void in creativity. My passion and craft started to dwindle. I thought about absolute realities and finding employment and just chasing paycheques. I forgot the reason I went into Media Production was to have fun and try something new. To work with technology and share my passion to the world. Finding the time and energy to invest in my craft would be a challenge but its something I'd love to do.
I remember high school when I would just have fun hosting radio shows, board oping, creating my own promos and jingles. I would purposely come home after school at 6 pm just making sure the station was on air. Going to university I was exposed to more ideas and thoughts. I met new people and I started to overanalyze myself. I forgot my main interest to why I wanted to forge a path in media.
Its time to do something than nothing. This August would be a year since I've finished going to class. It feels like an eternity but I do feel like I've been fortunate to be blessed with what I've accomplished so far. Post university life hasn't been easy. Its full of ups and downs but its great to be an eternal optimist.
It's time to start the journey...lets go

Rest in Peace. Thanks for all you have done for Indo-Caribbean Hindus to help us understand our religion.
