I grew up on the Isle of Man and am currently studying Cinema & Photography at the University of Leeds. I am something of an obsessed hobbyist, constantly setting myself bizarre creative projects around anything that takes my interest, be it a short animation to modelling an entire high school in virtual reality! A Kinetic Typography piece created as a formative assignment for my Motion Graphics module at Uni.  The soundbite used is taken from Sir Ken Robinson's brilliant TED Talk on Creativity in Education, a talk I would hugely recommend watching on the TED website!  I have further used this short soundbite to inform a short screenplay I’ve written, and am currently making into a longer 3 minute computer animated piece.

Here it is, perhaps the most wacky project I've had the privilege to work on to date!  For our most recent Uni assignment, I produced this short fashion film "The Fall.", entirely conceptualised by director Nastassia Winge.  Being an entirely new genre to me, I found its experimental and almost intangible nature quite a liberating filmmaking experience; it really felt like we were making something different and exciting.  As Nastassa once put it to me:

"If you understand it, you've missed the point.  I just want people to say ‘wow'."

So excited to be back in Pantoland this Christmas for the run of Dreamstar's "Puss in Boots and the Three Musketeers"!  Had great fun dancing and running the live-feed projection for the face of the cauldron.

'In the year 2045, who has time to wait for a taxi?' Back at Uni for a second year of Cinema & Photography!  Here's our first formative assignment for the year - a 'Sci-fi' genre short film that had to incorporate the line "Taxi."! Shot on Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera, cut in Avid Media Composer, coloured in DaVinci Resolve and featuring effects rendered in Adobe After Effects CC.

I decided in the face of an enormous heap of A level schoolwork, that this would be the best time ever to start planning to make another short film. By Easter I had assembled a great team of fellow RGS Sixth Formers and had the kind permission from a friend's grandparents to use their home for three full days (I'm still baffled by the luck and generosity) to film our claustrophobic crime drama script. The shoot ran surprisingly smoothly and after five months of editing, 'Safehouse' became a film - I hope you enjoy it.

A 3D Model of the entire new St Ninian's Lower School building I put together in SketchUp from over 1000 images of the site.  The model took 18 months to complete, finished with all interior and exterior features.

A music video and song I wrote and made with my friend, Illy Quane combining many set phrases from the AS Geography course we both studied on.  Our homage to six years of Geography, and a piece that seems to have brought some joy to Geographers the world over on YouTube.

A short stop-frame animation exploring the gestures and animations of the iPad system using a blank piece of A4 paper...or perhaps more accurately, messing around with some paper scraps on a large wooden table.

A stop-frame animation I was asked to produce for an online retailer theoriginalmoonroom.com.  Unfortunately the idea wasn't eventually used, but I still consider this short instalment of what would have been a far larger final project my best stop-motion work to date - and can't wait to find another use for the dog character in particular!

A music video hinged around a simple editing effect that's been done many a time before, though is still rather effective.  We thought considering Illy wrote all the music and played all the instruments when we were recording the piece, why not make a video that does the same.

An animation piece I made spur-of-the-moment one night after school in 2011 and then largely forgot about for years.  Looking back on it, it may just be one of my favourites.

An animation I made in late 2010 exploring the mixture of stop-frame and computer generated 2D graphics to create a new effect and look for traditional clay-nation.  The piece is aimed at younger audiences and holds the message of not misjudging people who may be 'alien' to yourself.
