The Amur Leopard and Clouded Leopard (which recently celebrated its 50th cub born at the zoo!)

hi genuinely thank you for the recent cat weight posting, because of it i realized my girl is actually pretty overweight and i'm significantly cutting back on her food to counteract it. she is unhappy with this change but it is for her health! blurry cat tax of her laying on me attached

It really is best to consult with your vet before making any drastic changes to the diet with cats because weight loss that is too rapid is extremely dangerous for them and can cause hepatic lipidosis which has the potential to be fatal.

At the clinic I work at we always recommend a slow reduction down to a particular calorie amount that is needed for the average animal at that pet's ideal weight, with regular check ins (no cost to use the scale) to make sure we are losing, but not losing too quickly, and also staying at that ideal and not getting underweight.

So basically, please feed your cat the amount she is used to and schedule a vet appointment for concerns that she may be too hefty and you'd like her to be slimmer.
