I don’t know if these words will ever reach you, but I need to say them for my own peace, for all that I left unsaid.
Two years ago, when you asked me about marriage, I said I don’t know. And in that moment, I was being honest but also unaware.
Unaware of how much you meant to me.
Unaware of how fragile time is.
Unaware that not choosing could itself become a choice.
When I heard you were engaged, just days later, something inside me sank. It wasn’t anger or regret at first, it was disbelief.
How could life shift so quickly, so silently? But now, with time and distance and the quiet ache that visits often,
I see it differently. I wasn’t ready then.
Not in the way you needed, not in the way you deserved. But I want you to know , The man I am now would have stayed. He would have chosen you, not with hesitation, but with both feet grounded. He would have held your hand and promised to grow, not apart, but alongside you. He would have made you feel safe, seen, and respected, every single day.
But I also know this, Life doesn’t hand us second drafts. Only memories. Lessons. And you were both.
You helped shape me into who I am. Your presence, your departure, your silence, they all had a purpose. And though I miss you more than words allow, I carry you now with gratitude more than grief. You were a light that flickered in a time I was still finding my flame.
Wherever you are, I hope you’re deeply happy.
Truly seen. Unquestionably loved.
And as for me, I’m still becoming.
But I’ll never forget what you gave me, even if it was only for a moment in the vastness of time.
