For understanding new or existing deities that have presented themselves in your life. It invokes an understanding that the relationship flows both ways, hence the focus not only on them but you. This can equally be used for spirit communication/angel communication/etc.

1. card to represent entity 

queen of cups - a beautiful, introspective woman sits on a throne at the edge of the sea. this entity is a women or has feminine energy, she is caring and compassionate. intuitive and creative, she goes with the flow. she might be an empath, a highly sensitive person, a healer, or psychic. 

2. my relationship to them 

the empress - a full figured woman, with a peaceful aura and peaceful energy. perhaps someone from my maternal line, with the previous card it seems to make sense that it is a female. a call to connect with feminine energy. she is also deeply connected to nature and perhaps is calling me to connect with nature and the female divine as well. with the pregnant belly showing, it really points to being a maternal ancestor. 

3. why are they reaching out 

the sun - her warmth and light shine down on me, she wants me to be happy and positive. she wants me to live life to the fullest that perhaps the people who came before me couldn’t have. she wants me to be open and confident, free and careless. 

4. how they relate to my ancestors / are they an ancestor? 

the hierophant - either they taught my ancestors about spirituality and tradition or they were an ancestor who taught others. they passed on knowledge, perhaps cultural traditions. with the previous cards, it would make sense for this person to be some kind of spiritual advisor or healer.

5. what can i do to hear them out? 

page of wands - communicate via prayer or just talking, they want me to undertake a journey but for it to be creative, lively, and free. they want me to be full of energy and find my passion and go for it. perhaps a path similar to the one they took. 

6. what can i do to honor them? 

eight of pentacles - card of apprenticeship and mastery, whatever i’m currently practicing, keep doing what i’m doing because this is the right path. i’m currently in college studying art history, and trying to learn more and more about my own history. i must keep at this. they are encouraging me to do so. i will achieve success this way.  

7. card to represent their origin 

seven of wands - this is someone who was fiery at times and stood up for what they believed in. perhaps they were caught in the middle of a battle or constantly had people against them or critical of them. despite their sensitive nature, they defended themselves and protected what they cared about. if they were a teacher of some sort, then it would make sense for them to have a few who did not agree with them.

Anxiety Bag 🌙

☆Most of you wanted an anxiety jar so here it is. I will be doing more so your requests will be fulfilled. I couldn’t find a jar but that’s not a problem at all, instead we will make an anxiety bag.

☆ Sometimes we can all feel anxious while performing or saying a speech in front of the class. I definitely experienced that and this bag always helped me feel better. So here is how to do it.

You need: 🌼 Chamomile for calmness and peace 🥐 Cinnamon for happiness 🍚 Salt for protection 🌿 Lavender for relaxation 💎 Quartz for stress reduction 🏺 Bag/jar

( 🌰 You can also add acorns, but I couldn’t find any. Acorns help you build up spiritual strength )

☆ Mix all of that up and if you want, add a sigil.

☆ Take the bag with you where ever you go especially to places where you know you’re gonna feel anxious.

do you have any tips/methods for grounding, cleansing and warding? both your space and yourself? ❤️🌸

Hi sorry it took so long for me to get to this!!

Grounding:

sit and hold a piece of hematite (this helps a lot when I’m super anxious)

focus on breathing then bring attention to what’s going on around you (sight, smell, taste, sound, etc), this brings you back to reality

visualize a cord or roots growing from your body and into the earth, see all the excess energy flowing into the ground and becoming neutralized 

walk barefoot in the grass, this technique is called earthing where you feel the earth around you

Cleansing

sound, using a singing bowl, chime or high frequency music to clear your aura and space (i play this when cleaning my personal space) 

smoke, burning a cleansing incense such as rosemary, wafting the smoke around your room and yourself

water, it’s a very cleansing element so by taking a shower or bath can wash away negative energy or sitting by/swimming in a lake or river

magic sprays, making one out of moon water, florida water, essentials oils and crystals and spraying it around you and your space can cleanse

crystal points, to cleanse and re-energize my body I like to sit with two crystal points set in my hands like this 

Warding/ Protection

multiple layers, for ultimate protection try to have multiple forms of protection up (energetic, physical, talismans, crystals, prayer)

talismans, I wear pieces of jewellery that have protective symbols on them and are charmed for protection such as Brigid’s cross, evil eye, triquetra, pentacle, etc.

crystals, carry black crystals with you or set them around your space, crystals like black tourmaline, obsidian, smoky quartz or hematite have strong protective and grounding properties, crystals such as selenite, quartz or moonstone are also good for protection.

sigils/protective symbols, set up or draw some sigils/symbols around your room or on you; they can be disguised as makeup,paintings or other forms of decorations, another example could be to draw symbols on your walls or doorways using moon water although this process must be repeated every so often because it isn’t permanent.

energetic barriers, visualize a strong but flexible wall or dome of energy surrounding yourself/ your personal space; choose what colour the energy is based off preference or correspondence (ex. white for divine protection, mirror-like for reflecting unwanted energy)

salt, lay down lines of salt on window sills or doorways to create barriers, carry a sachet of salt with your, cast circles with salt. I find this method is a bit messy and the salt needs to be replaced every so often.

spell jars/sachets, make a jar or sachet filled with protective herbs, salts, crystals and sigils, carry with you or hang over doorways.

Ok, so I get a lot of shit for calling low level spells weaker or low level, so here's a guide to actually crafting powerful spells.

What you need to know right off the bat is that you're layering powers on each other, and if you draw on more powers, you generally get better results. Now, there is some level of balance to this, as doing too much can muddle the intent of your spell, but the "too much" threshold is going to be something you learn to use intuition to find for yourself.

So, let's begin! Here are components of your spells to layer on top of each other

The most basic, your ingredients: what are the correspondences of your oils, waters, herbs, candles, and stones?

The time you do it: what day are you doing it? What phase is the moon in? Where are the planets? What day of the week are you doing it?

Location: Are you doing it in the woods? Near a river? Can the light of the moon touch you? What cardinal direction are you facing?

Visualization: While I don't believe intent alone is the driving force behind all magical works, that doesn't mean mental pursuits during your spell work are worthless. Visualization can be an incredibly powerful layer in your spells. What does the magic you're controlling look like? What is it doing?

Who you call on: Will you petition deities, spirits, ancestors, or fae for power? How will you do this?

Symbols: What shapes are your stones? Did you use runes or alchemical symbols? Did you make a sigil? How are your symbols incorporated into the spell?

Energy: Where are you getting the power for the spell? Yourself? The earth? A charged crystal? The spirits you petitioned?

Repetition: How many times has this spell or ritual been done before? An old spell has a lot of power behind it due to the sheer amount of times it has been used. Additionally, how many times do you perform an action or speak an incantation in the spell?

Incantation: what are you saying? Are you speaking to an entity or the earth itself? What language is the incantation in? Is the language related to who or what you're petitioning or is it just the language it was first written in?

Numbers: How many ingredients are you using? How many times will you perform an action? How many crystals/flowers/spoonfuls/candles/etc will you use? Numbers have correspondences.

Colors: Colors have correspondences too. What color is your candle? Your ink?

Tools: What tools are you using? How have those tools been powered or charmed? What have you used them for previously? How old are they? What energies power them?

Traditions: What traditions are you using? Where did the correspondences you use come from? If you're mixing traditions, do those traditions mix well? I do some amount of brauchery, and it doesn't play well with other traditions.

Order: What order do you do things in your spell? Which way do you stir? Do you petition spirits before the spell or during it?

And finally: intent and will. Yes, I'm not a fan of this stuff because tumblr sees it as the end all, be all. However, your intent will guide the way the spell goes, and your willpower is going to get you through anything tricky. YOU have to have the power and knowledge to make the spell work. If you're in a place that is specifically yours (like your house) you have sovereignty and your willpower will decide whether or not entities in the area respect that sovereignty. I could talk for a long time on this but I won't because this passage isn't the whole point of the post

To conclude:

Hopefully this illustrates why a cup of tea isn't the greatest spell when it only includes ingredients and maybe some intent. I know I probably didn't get every component you can add to a spell, but hopefully I got most of it.

Magical Properties of... Mugwort

Mugwort is a pretty affordable and very popular herb in the witch community. It grows in ditches and rocky soil, and holds a very bitter flavor (mugwort tea is not very appetizing). The Romans would put a sprig of Mugwort in their shoes to avoid getting tired on long journeys. It was associated with St. John the Baptist, and wreaths of Mugwort were worn to repel evil spirits. Mugwort has anticoagulant and disinfectant properties, and has a nerve-calming effect.

In witchcraft today, Mugwort is used as a visionary herb. Mugwort amplifies psychic vision and may induce prophetic dreams. People drink mugwort tea or burn it as an incense to help with lucid dreaming, astral projection, and meditation.

This is an herb of the Goddess as Crone, so Mugwort encourages wisdom and observation. When paired with a divinatory method of your choice, Mugwort is an excellent helper for confronting difficult truths.

Actually useful shit to have as a witch

You really don't need all the fancy bullshit every tumblr influencer will ever tell you to use. Here's my countdown ofaxtually useful shit.

A pocket knife, preferably with a wood handle. Use that bitch for everything, enchant it, carve symbols in it. It will absolutely be your best friend.

A good bag or backpack with a couple of plastic or ziploc bags in it. If you ever run off into the woods to find minerals, bones, plants, etc. A set aside bag and some things to store your treasures in becomes a necessity.

Basic divinatory sets. You don't have to buy fancy shit, learn to divine with playing cards and dice, or learn geomancy, lithomancy, or rune casting with homemade sets. A tarot deck is nice, but it isn't necessary when you've got so many other divinatory aids available.

A nice sized chunk of scrap cloth. When you process dried plants or sort new ones, that shit can and will get everywhere. A scrap piece of muslin or linen can help contain all of that mess and make clean up way easier.

A stash of good rocks. Draw sigils or symbols on those babies and leave them in the garden, the windowsill,property boundaries, under the stoop, etc. You can never have too many good rocks.

A pendulum, for fucks sake. The cards are going to be vague as hell when you're trying to figure out yes or no questions, and using a candle to communicate with spirits is really fucking hard outside. If you can't afford one, find a nice chunk of pointy quartz and learn to macrame.

A workspace. Everyone talks about having big fancy altars, but no one mentions that you need a good surface to do all your work on.

Storage, so much storage. I'm not talking about mason jars and pill bottles, I'm talking about where you put all the things you put in those jars. Having a workspace with drawers is immeasurably helpful.

A broom and water source. You're going to be cleaning up after yourself a lot, it's helpful to have a jug of water and a broom that stays by your workspace.

A mode of cleansing. I make a salt concoction to scatter around my workspace on short notice and store it close by.

On that note: SOMETHING TO CANCEL SPELLS WITH. Eventually, something will go wrong. You'll want to end that spell immediately. Have something to do it with.

A strainer. If you don't have a blender, rub dried plants across it to get a powder. If you do have a blender, you can strain that powder with it. Either way, if you intend to powder shit, get a strainer.

Small trays. It makes drying flowers so much easier if you have a small metal surface to contain them with- then just stick those suckers in a southern window and let em go.

Yarn/string scraps. Having a box or drawer of scraps makes trying this up to dry easier and a bit less wasteful.

A stash of offerings for whatever you work with. Honey for fae, coins for graveyard gatekeepers, alcohol for ancestors, etc.

Protective talismans or charms. Once you're into all of this stuff, you'll likely stick your nose in something you shouldn't. Having basic protection with you or in your workspace is incredibly important. A key and hagstone with red string is simple and effective.

A lighter- so many people forget the most basic shit. You're going to want to light shit on fire if you're a witch.

And a last tip- if something is too hard for a mortar and pestle, a plastic bag and hammer works too.

I literally just saw someone on the internet say that “fairies are always safe to work with since they’re rooted purely in light and peace” and I had a visceral flashback to coming home late one night when I was younger, crying, shaking, and afraid, after I inadvertently crossed the Faerie during the course of a ritual I was undertaking. My mom held me while I wept and helped me calm back down, because I was so agitated that I was rambling about “quitting” magic forever. Thankfully, she sat me down that night and gave me my first serious talking to about the Faerie and explained how dangerous and arrogant it was to underestimate those forces if you planned on sincerely entreating them. In essence, she made it as clear as she could that I was a wide-eyed kid playing with something I didn’t understand and wasn’t ready for (I was only 14.) And she was absolutely right.

So, my point in saying all this is basically to give a simple, but vital, piece of advice :

Do not underestimate the Faerie.

If you think of them as fantasy, you’re not ready. If you think they’re benevolent “light and love” creatures, you’re not ready. If you think you can dominate them, you’re not ready. If you’re not willing and prepared to go through both physical and psychic suffering in the course of your work, you’re not ready. And that’s okay. Take the time to build your efficacy, deepen your understanding, and develope a healthy sense of prudence before you rush into something you’re ill prepared for.

I’m not saying this to “gatekeep” or put others down, and I’m definitely not trying to espouse some mystical superiority on my part, as I’ve had to make plenty of my own mistakes in my 20 years of practice to even begin scraping the surface of what it means to practice magic. I just wanted to give back some of the wisdom that I was fortunate enough to receive when my enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge drove me to recklessness.

Magic isn’t a race or a contest, so be patient and do yourself the favor of taking yourself and your craft as seriously as is deserved.

Meditation for the Wild-Minded Witch

do you have ADHD? are you easily distracted? do you daydream constantly abt everything and anything? when you hear the words “you might fall asleep” in a post abt meditation, do you sigh and roll your eyes?

if you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this is the post for you!!

as someone who has type one ADHD and a crazy imaginative mind, I haven’t seen a single Intro To Meditation post that pertains to me. they’re always abt tips for visualization, or tips for not falling asleep within 5 minutes. I have insomnia you guys, I ain’t gonna be asleep in any less than 2 hours smh

without further rambling, here’s some tips and tricks for people who just can’t fucking meditate

1) listen to some goddamn music. preferably stuff you’ve listened to many times before, songs you have basically memorized so you don’t get distracted by how unique this new sound is, or how cool that voice was right there. listen to your favorites!! listen to songs in foreign languages, so you aren’t focused on the words but more the feeling they give. blast that shit through your most comfortable earbuds, tune everything else out

2) don’t sit outside. trust me. too many extra sensory bits and shit that you just don’t need rn. miss me with that wind and bugs and prickly grass.

3) tired of the “visualize a door” method? visualize yourself dancing! find one good dance song that you’ll only use when trying to meditate, and choreograph your own little routine! imagine urself dancing outside on a chilly autumn day- the air smells crisp and the leaves crack and almost hurt beneath your feet and every once in a while your arms hit a twig or branch. imagine it’s spring and there’s cold dew on the soft new grass and the sun is making your bare arms tingly, a warm breeze tugs at your hair and clothes. get creative! the hardest part is imagining yourself *in* your body, looking out, instead of watching urself dance like it’s a movie.

4) sit in the car!! oh my god!! do this!! the passenger seat of the car opens a world of possibilities, and you probably won’t even have to close your eyes because damn, look at you, you’re already off daydreaming abt god knows what and completely ignoring everything around you!! if cars are good for anything, it’s daydreaming. now all you gotta do is figure out how to switch your daydreaming off and turn meditating on.

5) school age witch? meditate in the morning on the bus. if you trust the other kids riding with you enough, do it on the way home too (warning: may suddenly find urself interrupted by flying paper balls or gross laughing. this is why we meditate in the mornings when everyone’s half asleep still)

6) it’s okay if a stray thought drifts in every once in a while, so don’t get upset over it.

7) your leg bouncing? scalp itch? eye twitching? keep bouncing it! scratch your head! rub your eyes!! trying to ignore these things will take more effort than it will to just take care of them. make sure youre comfortable

8) extending on that point, if you find your overall position uncomfortable, just move dude. it’s okay, just cause you aren’t laying with ur arms at ur sides and legs perfectly straight doesn’t mean you won’t get some meaningful meditation in

I was hoping to get 10 points but I’m suddenly lacking motivation and getting bored with typing this. guess that’s the proof for you that I have ADHD? I hope these help! feel free to add on your own tips for meditation! and like always, don’t beat urself up if nothing seems to be helping. I’ve been trying for three years and I still struggle very much to meditate, and be confident that what I’m seeing isn’t just my Wild Wild imagination, and is instead the astral or whatever else I’m looking for. take your time, and good luck! ✨🌊🥀

Banish The Bullshitter Spell

what you need:

Black candle

Powder of dragon’s blood, sage, black salt, cayenne, myrrh

Charcoal tablet + fireproof dish

Paper cutout of person giving you bullshit with name on it

Carving tool

Banishing oil

what to do:

Light your charcoal tablet prior to spell

Carve candle with person’s name, may also include sigils/runes of your choosing

Anoint candle with banishing oil top to middle, and bottom to middle

Sprinkle powder on dressed candle and affirm:  I banish you, (name), from my life and the lives of my loved ones, in all directions of time. You no longer cause us any harm.

Sprinkle some powder on charcoal and hold the candle above the smoke, affirm the above again

Light the candle

Sprinkle more powder on charcoal and hold the paper cutout above the smoke, then light cutout on fire and affirm the above one more time

Let the candle burn down

Idk what messy witch needs to see this but, you've got annoying wax all over your alter cloth?

1. Wax paper

2. Lay it on the wax and melt the candle wax onto the paper using a clothes iron

3. It's better now.

This also works wonderfully with newspaper and a hair dryer if irons are not an option! Newspaper also works to get wax out of carpet and rugs, just heat you iron to low and softly move it over the newspaper, it will absorb the wax as it melts. As a clumsy witch who has spilled entire wax melt filled bowls of hot wax onto cream carpet - its a life saver to keep some newspaper around at all times.
