The Ultimate Guide to Potion Bases
We all spend so much time thinking about the correspondences of the actual ingredients that go into our potions that we often forget to think about what the potion base represents! (At least I do.) It would be nice to have a list of all the various liquids that can be used in place of water. Naturally, I can’t think of everything but I think this is a pretty good starting point! What else can be used? Eventually, at some point down the road, I will compile all these thoughts into a book on potion making and want to include this! Keep in mind that these are my own correspondences. Let me know if you disagree or if you’d change anything up! Let’s see how big we can make this list. Also, I should probably note that not all of these liquids can be ingested. (Obviously.)
The List
Vinegar: Used for cleansing and purification potions. Lemon Juice: Used in hexing, cursing, or revenge potions. Cranberry Juice: Used in love potions. Apple Juice: Used in healing, knowledge, and youth potions. Ammonia: Used in banishing, cursing, purification, and protection Red Wine: Love potions and potions dealing with death and the afterlife. White Wine: Used in platonic love potions as well as success brews. Rum: Used in potions involving spirit work. Whisky: Another good base for potion work. Vodka: A good base for work involving rapid banishing. Laundry detergent: Good for cleansing potions. Oils: Used to speed up a process. Molasses: Used in potions intended to slow a situation down. Rubbing Alcohol: Another good base for cleansing and purification. Hydrogen Peroxide: Used in healing potions. Milk: Used in potions to promote sleep and peace. Sour Milk: Used to cause nightmares or in potions designed to torment. Orange Juice: For potions of solar importance, healing, success. Soda Water: Used in potions designed to encourage laughter and giddiness. Ginger Ale: Used in health or healing potions. Olive Juice: Used in peace potions. Honey: Used in potions to sweeten up another’s disposition. Syrup: Used in abundance and prosperity potions. Beer: Used in potions intended to induce slumber. Clam Juice: Used in aphrodisiacs. Cough Syrup: Used in healing potions and to make someone ‘cough it up.’ Soy Sauce: Used in protection potions. (Thanks Lexa Rosean for this one!) Pineapple Juice: Used in abundance potions and fidelity potions. Coconut Milk: Used in spiritual and magical cleansing potions. Ice: Solid first, then melted for transformation potions. Coffee: Really, a potion in and of itself in my book. Vanilla Extract: In small amounts, used in passion potions. Witch Hazel: Used in communication and cleansing potions.
What else can you all think of?
Yes, I finally cracked and downloaded TikTok. I’m not cringe I promise.

Do Tarot Cards Have Different Meanings When the Art is Different?
TL:DR; The answer to this - like most things I seem to write - is both yes and no. No because the core meaning - the ‘archetype’ of the card - will be the same. But yes because the flavor may be different.
Some people recommend that you should do readings based solely on the art of a card - that one doesn’t even really need to learn the meanings because all that matters is what that art means to you. I’m going to push back against that a little bit. The given meanings of the cards - or the attempt anyway - is meant to represent certain human archetypes. These come from myths, stories, but also just a collective understanding of the human condition. Death, money, love, hardship, joy. These concepts are distributed through the deck in an intentional way. People often use the Rider-Waite Tarot art as guideposts for meaning - but keep in mind that these interpretations don’t necessarily come from the Rider-Waite. Part of the creation of that deck was just illustrating meanings that had already been associated with the cards. It is the origin for some details and meanings, sure - but many of the meanings existed even applied to decks that were not fully illustrated. It was just what those cards had come to mean over time.
There are key figures in developing the art of tarot and the popular meanings, but some of it also came from generations of tarot readers adding their bits and pieces. A lot of people have added their energy to the meanings of these cards and I think that’s part of what make divination with tarot cards work anyway. You can generate your own meanings via intuition, or just studying the art - but it’s like cutting directly across a swamp instead of following the path people have worn over generations of walking it.
When creating a Tarot deck, people are free of course to illustrate the card however they want. That doesn’t mean that the art fully captures the archetype it is meant to represent - and so relying on the images alone may leave you a little bit lacking in information. Tarot is a common choice for artists to illustrate, even if they haven’t actually studied it or don’t necessarily believe in it. It’s just fashionable to create tarot art. Especially in a deck where there is a very particular theme and many of the cards have similar colors, features, and images - relying on the images isn’t going to get you very far. I say this as someone who has been eyeing that The Antique Anatomy Tarot Kit - the aesthetic of that deck is lovely, but I’m not convinced there is enough variation in the art to rely only on interpreting the art for the meanings.
Particularly with that style of deck, or non-fully illustrated decks, it does help to actually know the meanings of the cards. When I say “meanings” I don’t necessarily mean the unhelpful one-line description that comes with many decks. I mean that you really have a sense of the various ways that card can be interpreted. (I know, easier said than done, right?)
So how can the art style affect the interpretation? Sometimes you do get answers from your deck that are extremely literal, and in those cases the actual art may indicate that literal answer. For instance - the Rider-Waite is full of white people. My life is not exclusively full of white people. If your life is not full of white people your Rider-Waite is not exactly going to a have a diverse opinion on what the people in your life might look like. Meanwhile, another deck might have a card that actually resembles a certain person you know. People who are queer may get more contextual information from the art of a deck that contains images that are more representative. There are more literal clues in decks with art that contains modern imagery - the Rider-Waite has no notion of laptops and phones, after all.
And even if the art of the deck is very minimal, and doesn’t add much information at all, you may just prefer to use certain decks for certain readings or spells. Especially if you are using a deck for spellwork instead of actively reading it, you may want to have a charming deck with nice art that you won’t hate when you leave it in some formation on your altar for who-knows-how-long. Minimal cards may also be useful for spells that ask you to trace or draw a certain card and carry it around with you - then you have less work to do.
Or when doing a spell, you may want to choose a deck that gives off the same effect that you are trying to create. If the spell is for happiness, choose a deck with bright colors, if the spell is for wealth choose a deck with a lot of gold, if the spell is for love try a deck with flowers, etc. Those correspondences can only help. And the same thing may go for choosing decks to do certain readings with - maybe you have a deck just for love questions, or just for finance questions. You can, of course, use one deck for everything. (But if you do hoard decks, you may wonder what to do with all of them!)
also for any witches or light workers who want to send me some positive energy at this time, I found out recently that I have a little baby witch on the way! need all the positive energy I can get

From @honeycoyote :
Folklore and History: According to a legend the first Rosemary grew around the newborn Aphrodite when Uranus semen fertilized the Gaia’s ground. In later years the actual Latin roots of the name of Rosemary was forgotten and became the Rose of Mary, the Rose of Virgin Mary. According to a Christian legend, Virgin Mary, while wearing a blue dress, touched a bush of white-flowered Rosemary and the flowers were instantly turned Blue.
Magical Uses: Rosemary has been used extensively in magic spells and formulas since ancient years and it has been famous for its cleansing and protective qualities. It still remains one of the oldest incenses along with Myrrh and Frankincense and is burned in Cleansing and Spell Breaking rituals.
The herb has the amazing quality to cleanse and rejuvenate the mind and the aura of the afflicted person and it can help significantly in home cleansing and purification rituals. In addition, along with myrrh and frankincense it can be burned as a preparation for any major magical Ritual or Ceremony. Apart from its cleaning and purifying qualities, rosemary has been used to provide mental clarity, focus and good memory. In old tales, even the smell of the herb was able to enhance memory and help the wearer get rid of mental disturbances that obscure the mind.Furthermore, rosemary has been used in sachets and magical concoctions in order to promote youth and longevity. Old witches used to prepare an infusion of the herb which was then applied to the skin and the hair in order to promote health, longevity and beauty. Rosemary was also used in order to protect newly married couples and to ensure that their marriage will be happy and long-lasting. An old tradition mentioned that a rosemary branch should be dipped in the newly wed couple’s first drink. Then, the couple from a single glass must take a sip in order for their love to remain true and endure any difficulties. Another explanation could be that rosemary would help the couple to remember the happiness they shared during their wedding day, making it a vibrant happy memory; a point in time that acts as a shield when more challenging times are due to come.
Overall Rosemary is Carried and used in healing poppets for good health, used in love/lust spells, worn to improve memory, used in dream pillows to prevent nightmares, burned as incense for purification and removing negativity. Wear or carry while reading or completing tasks to improve memory of the material and aid clear thinking (great for students!). Use an infusion of rosemary to wash hands before any healing magic. Use in bath magic for purification. Associated with faeries.
Medicinal Uses: An infusion of rosemary makes an excellent hair rinse, gradually covering gray hair, and adding strength and shine to any color hair. It also helps reduce dandruff and stimulate hair growth. Rosemary oil rubbed into the ends of hair will also help reduce split ends.
Rosemary oil massaged into the scalp is believed to prevent baldness and stimulate hair growth.
Massaging the body with rosemary oil will increase circulation, relieve aches and pains and warm the limbs.
Used as a toner, rosemary will help bring blood to the surface of the skin and acts as an antiseptic and astringent.

Y’all, please stop recommending witchcraft as a replacement for professional mental health treatment. It’s really dangerous. Spirituality is fine as a supplement to treatment, but telling people to drop their antidepressants or antipsychotics in favor of crystals and incense is going to get someone killed. ):
