the exact events that occurred in ancient Kalos are left pretty vague, but I’m thinking about this line in XY where Lysandre introduces himself as “the descendent of a king’s younger brother”. that’s a specifically odd choice of wording. there’s nothing telling us that AZ had a wife or children, so if Kalos worked like a traditional monarchy then AZ’s brother would succeed him. therefore he would be referred to as a king as well, rather than merely “a king’s younger brother”. did the Kalosian royal line lose power after AZ fired the ultimate weapon and disappeared? and even if he was never a king, why wouldn’t Lysandre refer to his ancestor as a prince or lord? illegitimacy? disinheritance?

so I’m American and I default to pronouncing AZ as ay-zee, which is how all the trailers refer to him. but he’s French so it would probably be ah-zed in-universe. and I think the Japanese pronunciation is like ah-zeh-tto, leaning more towards the European Z. I think I’d prefer to pronounce it more like azed because tbh I think the letter names are a bit silly and it makes it sound more like a name and less like Literally Just Letters to my ‘murican ears. though the French often don’t pronounce the last consonant of a word, so is it ah-zehh?
