After the first week of classes, Fiora had luckily been able to avoid talking to the exchange student she was supposed to help out. She was able to just go to her classes and stay with her friends. She only felt bad when she lied to her mom when she was asked if she was staying active in the program.
However, that Friday, the group program had scheduled a meeting for all the students, saying that they needed to take their exchange student to a cultural site in Paris. Fiora scoffed at the idea, only until they said that they would need proof of attendance to get credit. Their exchange students would also get an email outlining the sites they could choose from.
Fiora went back to her dorm, slightly annoyed as she sat on the edge of her bed. She dialed her exchange students number but then paused. Not wanting to really talk to her, Fiora decided to text her.

Syndra expected such enthusiasm from Fiora, already under the assumption that the other was not particularly interested in this outing. In fact, the thoughts that Fiora felt were very much shared, and Syndra was under the impression that Fiora was fairly dull as well. From her perspective, she had only seen the other behave like a brat, and she had never seen a brat have very many talents.
"I'm quite aware, you don't need to be in such a fuss already over this endeavor." Syndra responded, rolling her eyes at Fiora's blatant attitude. It was hard to enjoy herself when the other was always so... Sour. "I know what I wish to see already. If you want to come then come, but don't ruin my experience. If you don't, then feel free to go somewhere else here while I look."
“I can’t leave you alone here, or I would never be able to find you in these massive crowds. Plus, it is required that I stay with you.” Fiora answered. Though she would have loved to leave Syndra to her own devices and enjoy some time alone, it would mean that this entire day would be more of a waste than it already was. Not getting the credits while still having to take Syndra to the Louvre would be an entirely new level of pure agonizing disappointment she don’t think she could live down for a while. Plus, her mother asked her to take a picture of the two and she couldn’t disappoint.
“Lead the way then, mademoiselle.” Fiora said, stepping aside and gesturing forward into the hallways of the museum. “Vos désirs sont des ordres.”

@ask-syndra
Fiora at first felt like she should say something as the awkward quietness filled the taxi car in the most suffocating way. When she turned to say something, she saw Syndra buried into her phone screen, so she turned back to face the window. If this was how it was going to be the whole time, steering Syndra around the Louvre while she scrolls her phone constantly, Fiora thought she might go straight to her advisor and withdraw from this course. It kind of annoyed her, but then again it was better than having to make small talk with someone she disliked. Once the taxi got to the signature triangular building, she got out and then paid the taxi driver. "So, this is the Louvre. Are you a fan of museums?" She asked.
Syndra stayed on her phone to drown out the awkwardness in the air, but she did catch a glance of Fiora about to try to make conversation and it almost made her feel guilty for not engaging. However, Syndra was doubtful it would turn out well to small talk with Fiora anyway. She did put away when they pulled up to the museum though, she was actually looking forward to visiting it, to be honest.
"I adore them." Syndra answered, looking out the window as she eyed the building curiously. "And you..?"
"They're enjoyable." Fiora stated in response. She had been to the Louvre many times as a child when her parents would take her and despite the ever-growing collection of art and its many events, Fiora had felt it had become repetitive. It was such a tourist attraction as well, so there were many foreigners who were loud, obnoxious and often got in the way of an enjoyable experience. There was always such a line just to see the Mona Lisa which caused the quiet museum to be too loud for her tastes. She didn't expect Syndra to be the museum type, though she wasn't sure what things she would enjoy. Every time she had been around her, Syndra was either on her phone or just talking to other people. She was never on a bike or painting or doing any hobby. Maybe she was quite boring, Fiora thought. She led Syndra to the museum entrance, paid for the admission, and started walking down the hallway lined with renaissance era paintings. "I assume you have never been inside here. There is enough art here that if you took 30 seconds to look at every piece, you would be here for weeks straight. That means you won't see everything here, so don't push me into a hurry. Sorbonne is only five minutes away from here, so it isn't like you can't come back." She said.

Of course, Syndra saw the email already and had fully expected Fiora to reach out. After all, it wasn't her who needed this credit, and she knew there wasn't a way around this particular outing. It was no secret that Syndra wasn't fond of Fiora at this point, but she had taken to otherwise ignoring the other's existence and was happy to see it reciprocated. For the time being, anyway; the exchange program quickly ruining that.
📲: who said I was going?
Came the returned text, Syndra biting her lip in thought. Maybe she was being too harsh, or maybe she was just in a better mood than usual today. Paris had been nice so far other than her one discrepancy with Fiora, perhaps it wouldn't hurt to give the other at least a chance to not be (in Syndra's own terms) the worst.

[TEXT]: Fine. Be ready at the front university gate at 11. Fiora didn't really want to go, but she was feeling more forced now. She could take a "sick day", a thought that she had considered, but she already felt bad lying to her mother so much. If anything, she would do this just to clear her conscious for telling her mother she had helped her exchange student out, talking to her and making sure she had everything she needed, despite it being the exact opposite; she didn't care if Syndra was suffering or not. The Friday soon passed into the horizon and Saturday morning arrived way too soon for Fiora's liking. She got dressed up, not wanting to go out looking worse than her exchange student. She stood by the front university gate at a quarter to 11, waiting for Syndra to arrive so she could call a taxi.
Even if Syndra was not fond of Fiora, she was a woman of her word and had showed up. Early, in fact, and as always, she was dressed and prepared nicely for the day. It really didn't occur to her whether to look better or worse than Fiora, she always looked good. The trip wasn't overly bothersome for her this time, not as tired and cranky as she was when they first met. That wasn't to say she looked forward to it, however, but she certainly came this time with the patience to deal with Fiora being a brat.
"You made it." Fiora stated. It wasn't much of a greeting as it was an audible thought, sounding almost disappointed. She half-expected Syndra to not show up, that Syndra would stand her up and leave her at the front gate in some attempt to annoy her. Though, she actually came and now she needed to spend the day with her. It was only a five minute drive, but the home students were supposed to take them somewhere and have a meal with them. The Louvre was absolutely massive, one could be there all day and she felt as though Syndra would keep her there like a hostage. "Oui, come along. I have reserved a taxi." She said, approaching up to a taxi car and getting inside herself.

Fiora was in her third year of college when she was told she had yet to complete any of her volunteer credit hours. Although finding it to be a waste of her time, she had to find some way to fulfill these hours, or else she couldn't graduate. There were a lot of options and she consulted her mother, who attended the same college years ago. Her mother suggested the program to help exchange students acclimate to their new school, so Fiora took that one.
A week before the students came, Fiora was assigned to one student from Japan, whom she would help get around and make sure that they were comfortable in Paris. They both shared an English proficiency, so speaking would be an easy task. Later that week, she had to go to the airport to pick up her exchange student. She stood impatiently outside the international gate, holding up a sign that read "Sorbonne University" and awaited for the exchange student to come.
@ask-syndra
Fiora went down to the cafés to get a coffee and maybe a cupcake, talking to one of her friends on the phone as she walked.
"Ne parlez même pas d'étudiant en échange. Quel ennui. Je préfère manger des tuyaux en plomb."
She rambled on and on, getting to the cafés. She saw her exchange student at a table, talking to about four or five people. So, she wasn't only just rude, but specifically rude to her. Enough to make Fiora's blood boil. Did she not know who she was dealing with?
Fiora hung up her phone and then went inside to order a coffee. She waited for her complicated order to be made, practically staring down the barista to make sure it was completed correctly.
Of course, it would not go unnoticed when Fiora walked into the cafeteria. She decided now would be a good time to ask about her, leaning forward to one of the people she was talking to. She whispered in the woman's ear, glancing at Fiora which would cause the woman she spoke to to do the same. She didn't really need much explanation beyond The Laurents being a very rich family.
So, she was spoiled, no wonder she acted so bratty. Naturally, of course, Syndra had to tell the table the story of how rude Fiora was. Unbelievable, really. She did exaggerate a few points, admittedly, but it was truthful otherwise. The table continued to glance at Fiora, Syndra smirking with a known amusement to the situation.
People turning heads to look at her didn't make her that mad. To be fair, some Parisians did turn their heads when she entered a room; having an old money name made her presence a bit different than other people's. However, she was sure that it wasn't the cause this time. Still though, she didn't care, these people weren't worth her time anyway.
She took her coffee and sat down in the café, eating the cupcake she ordered while looking down at her phone, trying to block out any sort of noise from the other table over there. No, she wouldn't even think about it. It wouldn't be in her head.

Syndra left the vehicle and she did the same. She closed the door and thanked the driver for driving them. Syndra already disappeared out of sight, presumably heading to find her dorm room. She thought about her credits, but then also thought about who she was dealing with. This exchange student was already rude right off the plane and she wouldn't just sit idly by and allow a stranger come into her life, walking all over her in the name of some credits. If worst came to worst, her family might be able to pitch in some sort of "owed favours" to waive her credit requirement.
She went back to her own dorm room and decided that in an hour, she'd go get some food... maybe go to boulangerie and get some sweets. After all, she felt like she deserved it.
