my heart bleeds everyday for the afghan girls and women. they are housebound and have to cover themselves up from top to bottom because they have to "avoid temptation or seduction". they are not allowed to speak in public or appear in public because it is deemed "too intimate." the women canāt look at men. suicide rates have skyrocketed because women and girls would rather be dead than to be a women in afghanistan. itās not a sin to be a women.
women and girls are denied access to healthcare because they cannot be treated by male doctors, yet they are also barred from education and, therefore, cannot become doctors themselves. shops in afghanistan are even forced to cover up female mannequins. little girls live in fear of becoming child brides, but they dream of being poets, they would kill to get education.
a woman was disqualified from the olympics because she spread the message "free afghan women" at her breakdance performance. there must always be a relative male by their side like women were dogs being treated by their owner, except dogs have more rights than the women suffering.
we must raise awareness, do not look away. these women deserve the opportunities and the human rights that EVERY person does. they are talented, creative and intelligent but men are so scared. scared of women. the taliban tries to erase women. iām sick. remember: itās not islam or "just their culture", it is the radical government that feels threatened by women. do not look away.
I do not feel comfortable being openly homosexual in the company of āqueerā people. Even hinting that I experience absolutely no attraction to the male sex is stressful, because often this results in a bunch of questions that equally feel like bafflement and interrogation. āWhat about THESE men?ā No, not them either. No men. āBut this man identifies as a woman!ā I am not wired to be attracted to pronouns. āWhat about this man? Heās femme!ā He is still a man, and I am still a lesbian. āSo just no men at all?ā YES. What is so hard to understand about that? Why canāt you just accept that female homosexuality exists, that it isnāt an evil ideology, and that itās just how I and many other women are born? Why can you accept and understand so many things, but draw the line at a woman having no interest in the male sex?
"that time of the month" "monthly visitor" "feminine hygiene products" GRRAH!!! SHUT UP SHUT UP!!! PERIOD!! MENSTRUATION!!!! TAMPONS!!! PADS!! MENOPAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!
VAGINA!!!!
It's not progressive to say "women are oppressed so they should be brutalized in films for the sake of realism". Hate to break it to you, but most men are sadistic towards women, not empathetic. The male film director who recycles the violent pornography heās consumed isnāt challenging anything. He's only desensitizing an entire audience to cruelty against women.
Seeing the female body associated with weakness and fragility is so weird. Only a bit of research will show you that women have better endurance, greater agility, and not only have longer lifespans than men, but are also more likely to survive in extreme conditions like famines and epidemics. Women are built for survival, endurance, and longevity, and there's nothing weak or fragile about that.
The undying urge to view everything through a feminist lens
