-the official blog of the cafe society- Greetings café lovers/fellow food enthusiasts/caffeine addicts/tea people/ those of the generally curious nature! Welcome to the official blog for the Café Society, run by two diehard café fans aka Leah and Sanam, who also happen to have always wanted to start a society/club. So, we did! Our aim is to peruse the streets of Perth, ducking in and out of small buildings and large doors, tracing paths through lively streets and quaint alleyways, to eventually visit every café (well, we will try our best) in Perth. With our taste buds tingling and our purses full of loose change, we will brave the rich cappuccinos, the delicious teas, and decadent desserts- filling our stomachs as well as our cameras- and posting our findings on here, for you to read! Many bowls of muesli will be munched, thousands of pots of tea will be poured, and chocolate will be a recurring theme as we embark on our journey across time and space (and cheesecake!), updating you on our discoveries on a weekly basis. A favourite amongst the most caffeine dependent of uwa students, this lovely concept store cafe is famous for its friendly staff, fine baked goods, decent coffee and cute gift items for sale.

This shop is the perfect escape from the most tedious of days at uni, far enough to be a nice walk but not too far to make it a ridiculous idea for a quick break. It is also very important to mention that they always play really really good music (very important).

Walking through the doors we immediately felt both at home and overwhelmed with choice for a sweet brekkie fix. As good as the crossaints looked, nothing could beat the smell of the fresh choloate banana bread when it was brought out of the oven. Enjoyed in the back room with the perfection that is their coffee (they have mini oreos on top) (cutest idea in the world) this made for a lovely cafe society outing.

Our order:

-Chocolate banana breads (all of us) (no one could say no) (it was amazing amazing beyond a winner of a choice)

- Coffees (lattes and cappuccinos for us today)

Hello! May I recommend some cafe's for those UWA-er's in the North-East region of the Perth area? To The Woods on Old Perth Road in Bassendean, Sherbet Cafe' and Bakeshop next to Maylands station, and Cafe' Mueller on William St in Midland are probably my top three :D

Top 5 cafes in Perth?

ahh, hello anon!This was a very hard question to answer, and we have been discussing it intensely/reminiscing over all of the fabulous cafes we have been to, but here is the verdict (in no particular order that would be tres hard):Mrs S, Tea for Tu, Moore and Moore, Uncle Joes, Ootong and Lincoln. Of course there are a tonne more, but those are our fav's so far!thanks a bunch xoxo

Shop 7, 329 Murray St Perth WA 6000 Down a lane way and round a corner this cafe is hidden in the heart of perth near king street, and it is well worth the extra effort to find. The society was very excited to finally try this whimsical little treasure of a cafe we have long been meaning to try, and was willing to brave the stormy weather in order to do so. Unfortunately the poor weather prevented any hopes of sitting the gorgeous open air garden, but this didn't stop us from finding a cute seat inside and attempting to decide on our order. This was easier said than done. With everything from breakfast toasties to poached pear and yoghurt muesli, not to mentioned the incredibly well priced $4.80 fresh dairy free smoothies and range of coffees and teas, the menu was almost a story in itself. Secret garden cafe is a decently priced (they have specials for certain days) (burrito Monday) (burger Tuesday) (eggs and toast Wednesdays) (everyday breakfast toasties)(all of the specials yay!!) cutely furnished oasis with a delicious array of menu items, and well worth investigating. Our order: - chai latte (always a winner) (unless done wrongly) (but it wasn't so it's okay) - stoned fruit and chia (yum yum) (resisting the urge to always order muesli) - iced coffee (mmmm ice cream mmm) - breakfast toastie special (perfect brekkie perfect price yay) - cappucino (first coffee of the day has to be a good one and this did not disappoint) - fruit toast with jam and butter (packed with fruit and deliciousity) (good decision me)

Uncle Joe's Cafe

76 King St Perth WA 6000 1st of August 2013 After months of agonizing over whether it was worth the potential embarrassment of walking into a barber to visit this gorgeous cafe, we put aside far fetched ideas of getting boyfriends (deffo too far) or growing beards (biologically challenging) to simply walk through the doors and scope out the delicious cakes and pastries we so often looked longingly at over the cafe's Instagram (@uncle_joes). And it was well worth it. As advertised, this establishment does house both barber and cafe, but it is possible to visit either or both due to the way it is set out, with barber to the side and cafe down the back. Although our experience with the barber part of uncle joes is limited to marveling at the general grooviness as we walked past, we can definitely vouch for the beauty of the cafe and its delicacies. In warehouse turned modern style decor, this cafe immediately makes you feel comfortable and welcomed by the friendly staff who work there. At the front counter there is tray upon tray of croissants, cakes, muffins, banana bread and an extensive menu specializing in unique twists on popular breakfast and lunch items. Perhaps the most unique part of this cafe however is its character. Not one to conform to traditional expectations of cafes, uncle joes goes above and beyond tapping into the niche market for men's hair (which, lets face it, is 96% bearded hipsters) (which we have absolutely no problem with) (in fact bearded hipsters are definitely a bonus) and offering services such as delivery, fresh flowers and bread, as well as always being keen to try new ideas. This cafe doesn't simply sit back and marvel at its own brilliance (but who could blame them if they did) but it is ever evolving into the unique character it is so famous for. Definitely one to check out, and its central king street location makes it inexcusable not to. Our order: -earl grey cupcake (absolutely delightful cupcake that actually did taste like earl grey)(which is lovely)(tea and cake in one what could be better) -chocolate cake (so beautiful) (definitely good breakfast decision) -cappucinos (ahhhh good coffee perfect)(can't even get over how fab the foam on these were)

That Little Mexican Place, South Fremantle

This special promised 50% off at 'that little Mexican place' in south Fremantle should you book for a table before midnight Wednesday. Discovering this special on Wednesday night, the cafe society issued a spontaneous invitation to pallies and quickly gathered a group together for the purpose of maximising on this special. Food is good; cheap food even better. Thus Friday was the chosen night for Mexican fun times. The night started well. This complicated and inflexible menu was overlooked in the promise of genuinely superb Mexican cuisine. And superb it was, bursting with flavour the tacos, chicken breast, steak and tortillas were dressed in spicy salsas and sauces that made the mouth water and the head spin. But to be completely honest, was this cuisine any more than your typical Mexican? Done well, but not outstandingly: that is the problem of this place. And it is a problem that spread into the service. At first we were impressed, the waitress seemed friendly enough. But as the night wore on we began to notice the little things. The difficulty getting a jug of tap water for our table. The unsmiling service. And most of all, the rudeness at the end. The reason for braving this restaurant despite the low urban spoon rating was the promise of 50% off. The booking was made with this hope. This hope had overshadowed the relatively poor service, uninviting atmosphere and generally poor vibe. And when the waitress announced in an annoyed tone we were not eligible for the discount because it was not a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night, despite the email for the discount and the man we spoke to for the booking saying it was more than fine, not only were we left feeling cheated, but all the previously ignored flaws of the restaurant were no longer forgiven. Unfortunately, whilst the food was delicious, and the good night out with friends made the evening worthwhile, the disagreeable manager, poor service and overall bland vibe would put us off ever returning. Looks like we shall be spending the rest of our lives in cafes, not restaurants

http://www.mrsscafe.com.au/ Mother's Day is a must for decadent meals and scrumptious dessert, so what better place to go than Mrs. S!? Situated within a minutes walk from Maylands trainstation, and amongst many cute boutiques and partnering cafe's, it boasts all you need to have a top quality cafe experience: cute, vintage decorations and colour co-ordination, creative use of space, and a large display of mouth watering home made cakes, slices, and muffins. The staff there are super friendly and, even though we wre experiencing the peak rush of Mothers Day, we were seated and catered for within minutes, handed quaint little menu's (they are seasonal and made from upcycled disney books ahhh <3), and shown the drinks menu; a large blackboard on the wall, hung amidst incredibly sweet decorations/items for sale. Choosing a meal was the hardest task of the morning: there was such a large range of really interesting sounding dishes. Don't get me wrong, I love myself a bowl of muesli or a simple fried egg, but the menu items from Mrs S. are so unique and intriguing, you want to try all of them! (or maybe that was just me and my eyes larger than my stomach...) In the end, I opted for a chai pannacotta with almond crunch and plums, both my mother and little sister ordered the peanut butter and jam bread pudding, and my older sister chose a savoury dish: pumpkin hummus, saffron honey, walnuts on rye bread. We also ordered juice: apple for me, watermelon for my sisters, which arrived around the same time as the breakfast, which was a pleasant surprise. Ok, onto the food. Oh. My. Golly. Who knew food could taste so good!? Keep in mind that it is all home made, using top quality ingredients and such a unique creativeness (rose petals on the plate!), I could not believe my eyes, or taste buds. All of the flavours worked so well (chai and plum and almond is a match made in heaven) and the meal sizes were incredibly decent: I was full for hours. The decor, matched with the homestyle cooking, as well as the jolly staff really make Mrs S. a 10/10 cafe, I hope to go back and try their decadent cakes (so many different types) as well as their menus in the different seasons.

Our order: - watermelon juice, apple juice (all freshly squeezed and cold) - latte (my mother is the biggest coffee snob, so to get her tick of approval is an arduous task, Mrs S. made the cut!) - my order, chai pannacotta, plum compote, almond crunch (my mouth is watering just thinking about it) - Little sister+mothers order, peanut butter and jam bread pudding, creme anglaise, salted caramel, rhubarb - Big sisters order, pumpkin hummus, labneh, crispy walnuts, saffron honey, radicchio on rye toast (the honey worked so well with the savoury elements) I recommend you go to Mrs. S ASAP, even if it's the last thing you do.
