My quick little 2 week project that took 6 months

Thank you Past Rocky for buying 2 boxes of blocking combs and a fuckton of T-pins. This is not a perfect blocking job but it’s going to have to do. If I make this again I’m going to need to get even more floor mats.

Pattern is Butterfly Shawl by KrissKrochet worked in the Alpaca Rose yarn from The Border Mill in Silver. I bought a cone so that I was in absolutely no danger of running out and used at least half of it, so again well done Past Me.

The pattern and yarn were both a delight to work with and also I am not making this again for AT LEAST a year 😆

Third shawl of the year! (I've posted about finishing this shawl before, this is just the finished object post so I can search for just photos of my finished objects.)

This is Hayley Tsang Heather's Peony – Pfingstrose Shawl. I made this shawl out of Fyberspates Gleem Lace in the colorway 733 Everglade, and used 896 6/0 Miyuki Rocailles in the color: transparent silver-lined dark gold (RR-4).

Here are a couple of little knitted hearts that use the continuous cables method. There's a top-down version and a bottom-up version.

I've found that it works just fine if the "begin continuous cable" is a YO. The method where you knit the new stitches into loops of scrap yarn is probably a little easier to keep track of when it's time to do the direction reversal and graft, though.

The orange square is where you work the three stitches of the k-yo-k increase from the previous row. If knit back and forth, it's on the wrong side and is p-k-p; if knit in the round, it's k-p-k.

Here's a very hastily-drawn diagram of which stitches reverse direction.

The one on the left is slightly easier to do, I think, because the graft attaches to a regular knit stitch. For the one on the right, the graft attaches to the stitch with the k-yo-k increase, so it's slightly harder to see where you want the yarn to go.

I'm generally in agreement that you shouldn't make high-effort, handmade gifts for people without their assent and collaboration, but I also have a brain that loathes the pressure of expectations. So I knit a shawl similar to one of mine she's admired, that I knew I would enjoy knitting, and with one (1) new skill (beading) for fun. I'll show it to her and explain that I made it with her in mind, but there's no pressure to accept or use it if it's not her thing.
