Who needs REM sleep anyway?
Two months before I turned 28 I bought a house I couldnât afford In a city I never wanted to live in With a man Iâm not married to And we both work so much We canât even enjoy it together. But all I can think about Is how many trees there are And how the day we signed The paperwork for the mortgage A cold front came. The temperature dropped More than 40 degrees, And the drought finally broke. The rain poured that night For the first time in months And we got drunk on tequila And cheap champagne I felt like shit the next morning But I couldnât take the day off Because Iâm living the American Dream And donât have many sick days. And who knows if I might get cancer Unexpectedly in March And then wouldnât I feel silly Having wasted a day in October To recover from celebrating Experiencing life at all.
working full time is terrible why do we just accept that having 8 days off a month is normal and okay........ being alive could be cool but we waste it at our JOBS.... sorry iâm just heated about capitalism again iâll be fine
8 days....never thought about it like that đ
This seems really whiny to me. Like, I agree with you, work sucks, but our ancestors didnât get to browse tumblr at their desks or have the option to gleefully spend their ENTIRE WEEKENDS horizontal on the couch stuffing their faces/watching tv/playing video games/wacking off. They didnât have weekends. They just slaved away as fucking peasants from dawn to dusk until they died in childbirth or got the consumption.
I am perfectly happy working 8 hrs a day because I donât have to:
grow my own food
find my own clean water
heat my house
shit in the woods
Hi, I study social and cultural anthropology. Humans working 40+ hours a week is 100% an industrial revolution thing and was not normal in the early stages of our existence. In fact, hunter and gatherer societies that still exist to this day spend about 15-20 hours a week TOPS working. The rest is dedicated to sitting around and telling stories and jokes, dancing, singing, eating, sleeping, fucking and so forth. Read a damn book.
Medieval peasants lived grueling, terrible lives. But their vacation days beat out the policies now common even in progressive societies.

Modern technology is making us anti-social!
Itâs almost like people would rather not talk to every random stranger they see in public.
^^^^say that!!

Literally just romanticize your own life. Whatâs stopping you. Who will care. Commit to enjoying things.Â
2018 Reflection
January: Nothing on the calendar...Couldnât honestly tell you if anything worth remembering happened. February 23-25: Went to Austin with Andrew for our 7 year anniversary. Stayed at the Hilton. Went to Bangers for dinner, like the year before. Went to the Garage Bar. Went to Perla for dinner and both got the pasta..with a scallop. Saw Black Panther. Went to Fabi + Rosi for dinner. Visited caves. March 11-March 15: Visited Allison in Chicago over a portion of Spring Break. Temperatures were cold, and it snowed one day. Walked around downtown one day. Took the train from her neighborhood into downtown. Ate dinner at a good Ramen place on the last night. Saw Annihilation by myself while Allison visited with a client. Had brunch the first morning at a place across the street from her house, then walked around the neighborhood. Donât remember much else. March 17: Duffyâs St. Patrickâs day party. Cute dogs. March 20:  Jury duty; didnât get selected. Case was between a law firm and someone associated with a school. March 29-April 2: I could have sworn Andrew and I went to Florida for Easter this year but it isnât marked on the calendar. I looked it up in my email and it does seem that we went then. We visited the fish market and got shrimp for cooking and for eating. Beach was a bit chilly on some days but we had a good time. Food in FL honestly not that good; they get away with mediocre food because itâs just tourists so theyâll always have business. I hate how busy it gets there. Went out to eat in Rosemary Beach one night. Too many kids and food was meh. April 14: Chaperoned 2nd half of Prom. Pretty awkward/boring. Why do I do this? April 20: Went to play at Jesuit...Murder mystery double feature. Brannon ends up being the killer posing as a cop in one. April 28: Andrewâs birthday. I have no memory of what I got him or what we did. Andrew said we had Marcus, Colin, Tony, the Newlands, the Duffys, and the Galichios over and we made Pobodys...Becky brought giant bottle of champagne. May 12:  Went to Raulâs house for dinner. Matt Upton was there too. Had good tacos. Boys reminisced about Jesuit. May 13: Motherâs day and Beckyâs birthday at Sixty Vines. May 18: Faculty banquet was at a new location by the school instead of Frontierâs of Flight Museum. Sat with McGhee, Progar, Celeste and Armstrong...and Howell (donât sit with next year?). Todd won an award. Emily got really drunk. May 19: Kolache cooking lesson with the Newlands. May 20: Matt Welch and his gf/fiance/wife came over and we played Sequence. May 26: Graduation. Chronically boring. Slightly less boring than normal. June 2: Department party at Maxâs. June 3-16: Mom in town for two weeks. Stayed at AirBnB near Greenville. Visited FW one day. Tried to go see a soul band at the arboretum but it got rained out and we had to hide under the grotto for a while. Donât remember much else about visit, which is weird considering how long it was. Had lunch one day with Becky at Sixty Vines. Becky talked the whole time. June 22-26?: Summerlyn visited. Celebrated Aliâs birthday...went to their house and met the puppy and then went to places in Deep Ellum, which I hated. Spent one day at Colin and Sarahâs, with Andrew giving Harper a cooking lesson. July 7: Ben and Robyn wedding. Reception mediocre. Went to Whataburger after instead of eating the food. July 8-20: 2 Weeks in Phoenix with Dennis. Dennis very passive, would not ask questions that would have fixed some stuff. Stayed at AirbBnB. Watched WildâNâOut. Drove to Sedona one day; super beautiful drive. Went on hike. Went to art museum by myself one night. Two dusts storms plus torrential rain one day. August 3: Dean passes away in the morning, JoJo passes away in the evening. Mimi comes over right as Andrew finds out about JoJo. Funeral for Dean in Shreveport...stayed at gross hotel. Funeral for Joann the week after at St. Rita. August 12: Meat Fight 1k with Jenna and David. August 18: Gucci Gang BBQ. Andrewâs food better than other food. September 7-9: New Orleans trip. Thought I would see Amie but then I didnât feel good. Got overly emotional. September 14: Tomb Raider and Bojack released. September 15: Chili Fest. I hated this, left early. September 21-23: Andrew at Winstead retreat. October 2-4: Community Days. Really good time. Boys emotional. Climbed mountain with Carl, Joel, and Simon. October 12-14: Waco Poverty Immersion Trip. Me, Riemer, Jude, Sarah, Kevin Currier, Hector Jaurez, Jaibin Mathew, Joey Rischard, Will McKinney, Michael Steffler..etc. October 15: Beginning of Brannon problem....goes missing on October 16 after Carl calls me to tell me what he said to theater kids. Carl, Bennett, Jaibin and I super concerned. October 27: Voted in Midterms with Mimi. November 2: Ranger Day. Stupid Dion jokes about tongs. November 10: Lisa Dreubert party...went alone, kind of awkward. November 16-19: New Orleans. Stayed with Sean/Meghan and Antonio/Tom. November 20-24: Thanksgiving in Georgia. z
November 28: Nine Inch Nails concert. AWESOME. Comments on year in general: Good amount of traveling, Andrew got really into cooking this year...basically all he does on the weekend. I get stressed out hosting people here in Dallas and would prefer not to in general. Figured out I need a lot to do to stay happy. Didnât achieve goal of getting in better shape or drinking less.Â
damn people really go out on saturdays and have fun thats wild
Teaching Biology
Life is more than the memetic version You see on Reddit We all know about the mitochondria How itâs the powerhouse of the cell (Ignoring that this is grammatically incorrect; Mitochondria is plural.) But do we know about fractal reproduction Endless replication But never duplication Polymerase making error after error Typo after typo Not catching her mistakes.
Like a Xerox machine Or children playing telephone Each iteration is a less clear Than the one which came before Until the original may as well Never have existed. No one want to hear About how theyâre the descendents Of self-replicating molecules Local reversals of entropy. So I guess We are just memes oureslves Endless replication Never duplication Repeating Spreading Until we are eventually Unrecognizable Uninspired Unintelligable
The teenage angst is gone.
It must have dissipated into the atmosphere as heat, The manifestation of millions of moments Of times my mind managed to disappoint me, Until it could no longer be transformed in my ecosystem Or my local reversal of entropy has become more efficient; I donât buy the latter though. We all die eventually. Our arms and legs Becoming worm food, Contributing to the inevitable heat death of the universe As our tissues grow cold.
Calvin relates to me too much
