(Not in a CG/L context but in an actual, “Grant impregnated someone and poof there’s a baby” scenario. I blame @harlequinunmasked.)

If a pregnancy happened, he’d be remarkably chill about the idea. It’s just something that happens, so there’s no sense in stressing about it. He’s unconcerned about being able to provide for a child or partner; he can get money when he needs it, so there’s no panic about the sudden added responsibility. If the partner doesn’t want support or anything to do with him, he’ll respect that. (And if the partner doesn’t want to carry to term, he’d shrug it off because it’s not his body. ... Unless there’s some dark kink in play.)

He likes partners that can take what he dishes out, whether he loses his temper or is in one of his darker moods. Naturally, he’d frown on not being able to shove someone around quite so hard while they’re pregnant, but he’d get over it and find other outlets.

Grant is capable of tenderness: he’s very aware of his strength and how best to use it, but also how to dial it down. He just doesn’t overtly show it. He’s extremely protective of the people he lets himself get attached to. In a quiet and comfortable setting, you might even catch him placing a hand over the partner’s stomach, silently appreciating the sight of their changing body.

So, nine months later, he’s got this tiny bundle in his over-sized hands. He gets very good at swaddling and will strap the baby to his body to carry while he gets shit done. (Trust me, it won’t be a very pretty baby carrier, but it’ll be safe and effective.) He will do the skin-to-skin thing because his body is like a furnace, and keeping the baby on his chest close to his heart will knock them (and himself) out for a good while.

Much of his communication and affection is non-verbal, so you won’t catch him doing baby talk. There will be some sighing and brow-furrowing when the baby just cries and throws up and does general baby-things, but he knows he can’t lose his patience on something that small. He will walk for miles in the dark to try and calm the baby down.

I’m just always so intrigued by the disdain with which Selvig says that though. Like, what happened? What did “The Hawk” do to him to elicit such negativity? Did Clint perhaps see something Selvig missed, hurting his professional pride? Or was there some kind of disagreement? Some sort of safety procedure Clint wanted put into place, perhaps something that Selvig felt would interfere with scientific discovery? And of course “Hawkeye” took it to the man in charge, Coulson. And of course the venerable Agent Coulson sided with his “Hawk.”

After all, everyone knows they’re sleeping together.

IIRC, it was implied in the Thor post-credits scene with Selvig and the Tesseract (and also in Fury’s Big Week) that Loki was somehow controlling Selvig, or at least had the power of suggestion over him. Therefore, under that influence, Clint and his observational skills were a major threat to Loki’s plans, and I could see Loki pushing Selvig into having an antagonistic relationship with him.

Oh, now I want a post-Avengers or Thor 2 fic where Clint and Eric meet again, and Clint’s all wary not just because they were prisoners together, but because before that he thought Dr Selvig didn’t like him at Pegasus.

OH MY GOD!!! I always wondered why Loki says ‘you have heart’ when he first takes clint, cause I always figured, how do you know that Loki?? But if Loki had been hanging out via Selvig, he’d have already known Clint! Which makes sense for why he took Clint! Cause he’d have seen how smart was and knew his way around the organisation and so on. Maybe Loki had tried to do things through his influence over Selvig beforehand, and Clint kept stopping him! Maybe that’s one of the reasons Loki took him first, cause he was a pain in the ass and he knew Clint would be too much of a threat if he was on the opposing side. hmmm !

It’s been a few weeks since he last darkened her doorstep, and his words are dark and slurred from raging adrenaline and bloodlust. Harvey Dent hadn’t been an easy man to get to, and Grant was nothing if not meticulous in his planning. He’s clean, for the most part -- having disposed of as much evidence as possible before C4 took care of the rest. Still, there’s no mistaking the smell of ash and metallic tang of blood that hangs about him.

“Gotcha a present,” he says. True to his word, he holds out a white box tied shut with twine. Inside is the gift he’d promised -- Dent’s heart, nestled in white fabric -- wrapped in red satin ribbon and finished with a bow. Beneath the still-warm flesh, slid into a careful cut between the ventricles, is Dent’s trademark coin.
