“He just picked up and left?”
Mhmm... you were right about him, Berlioz. You were right about everything.
Damn, sorry to hear about that, Marie. Anything I can do to make you feel better?
Buy me ice cream? I think the sweet shop in the caf should still be open on Saturday...
“Trusted who?” he asked confused before blinking at her “What do I mean? That you don’t need a date to have fun?”
She shook her head. “Who isn’t important. He’s gone now anyway. Up and left the school without a word to me.” She pressed her lips together and gave him a pointed look. “You sound like you’re saying you don’t have a date either.”
“Of course, Marie, it’s no problem. He didn’t deserve you, not at all.”
Maybe... but I had hoped that he could, in time... I thought I was getting through to him. But I guess not.
“I don’t think your only option. You are a beautiful girl, even if it is last minute someone is bound to ask you.”
“You flatter me, sir, but I don’t know that I’m quite in the right frame of mind to go to prom at all. I don’t believe we’ve met, I’m Marie. Lovely to meet you.”
“I know a heap of people who are just going for a laugh.” he said “You don’t need a date ey?”
I know I don’t but being there is going to be just a bigger reminder that I never should have trusted him. But... wait... Edmund... what do you mean?
“I mean, if you don’t want to go, I certainly won’t make you, but if you do, i’m here. He’s stupid for leaving you, by the way.”
I’ll think about it. Thank you, Jubileena. That means a lot.
“It happened to me too…hey, why don’t you come with me? If you got your dress and stuff already, and you wanna go, that is.”
“I have plenty of dresses but I hadn’t bought anything specifically for prom. He hadn’t even mentioned it, honestly... and I don’t really know that I want to go... It might just remind me too much that he’s not here anymore.”
So I think my only option for prom left school without saying a word to me... why does this keep happening?
I dunno, all he said was how being with him would just hurt me and that I deserved better. Ironic how I’m still hurt either way, ain’t it? I devoted so much time and energy to our relationship, and…and now it’s just a complete and total waste… Anyways, what I really deserve is to make my own choices and decide for myself who I wanna date, not for people like Nibs to do it for me.
That’s terrible, dear... I don’t know what to tell you. You absolutely deserve to be able to live your own life, but he has to do what’s best for him too, you know? If he’s unhappy because he thinks he’s not the best thing for you, then maybe he had some kind of justification in it?
I mean, I don’t mean to say you’re wrong. You’re not, really, you’re right, and I think Nibs had no right to hurt you. I just... I can see the other side too.
Berlioz went into the room and sat down on one of the desk chairs, waiting for her to start talking before pausing at the question. He felt that, every day… he really did. The difference was that he didn’t even tell them. Personally, he’d considered saying something similar a while ago, but then he snapped himself into reality. He had no idea how to tell their maman that he was gay, and that was currently his worst fear. So, to him, no matter how bad it got in school, it was better than going home. “What about Alice? I thought you guys hung out sometimes…” He suggested.
Marie shrugged, glancing away from her brother. He knew there was something he wasn’t saying. His weak excuse for a suggestion was... well, weak. “I haven’t seen her in ages, I don’t have any idea what’s going on in her life. I feel like everyone else has abandoned me... or I’ve abandoned them... I don’t know, Ber. I just want to go home. Let things go back to the way they were. The three of us, Duchess, Maman... all one neat little family. We only needed each other.”
I got dumped – apparently for my own good, to boot. Now I’m single and will probably never be ready to mingle.
For... for your own good? What is that even supposed to mean? That’s just awful... you know, I never met Nibs but I kind of want to yell at him right now. You don’t deserve this, sweetie. You deserve so much better.
Berlioz, upon receiving a panicked text from his sister, rushed immediately from his room to hers. He didn’t know what was wrong or what could have happened, he just knew that that word was for emergencies. So the dark haired third year ran from his own room to hers, not that it was very far, and knocked quickly on the door. “Marie?” He asked, bouncing on the balls of his feet until she answered.
Marie knew she couldn’t keep hiding from her problems. She turned to the only person she knew she could trust not to make light of her concerns - her brother. She’d sent him their secret codeword via text and knew he’d get to her as soon as he could. Lo and behold, there was his knock and his voice at her door. She let him in and flopped back down on her bed. “Have you ever looked around and realized that the only people you can really share things with are me and Toulouse?” she asked him quietly. “I feel like I have no friends and I’m drowning in schoolwork and I want to go home.”
There’s nothing to talk about. Well, aside from the fact that there’s no relationship to talk about anymore.
Oh, Tootles, no... what happened?
“Well Joey is my brother, he lives in the town, so he doesn’t go here. It’s nice to meet you too Marie. Well Spinelli is my last name. I don’t like my first name so I’m not gonna tell you what it is. I’m just from the States just your everyday town there. A little more than Nowheresvill, but not anyplace special.”
“Ah, that makes a bit more sense. Your last name, I see. Why don’t you like your first name? Is it that terrible? Oh, you’re from America! That’s lovely! I don’t know that I’ve met anyone here from America... that’s a bit odd now that I think about it.”
It’s nothing you should worry about, just some relationship drama. I’m fine, though.
Relationship drama? Tootles, are you sure you don’t want to talk about it?
“ Are there any pets allowed here because I found this turtle just chilling outside? And isn’t it the cutest thing ever! ”
Oh, isn’t he precious! I haven’t heard any official rules about pets, maybe you could... sneak him in? I can’t see the harm, he’s only a little turtle! It’s not like he could hurt anything.
