Rodney McKay is a deeply closeted gay man madly in love with John Sheppard but he's so deep in the closet even to himself that he tells himself it's hero worship. But whenever John is involved with a woman he gets so jealous he practically explodes.

John Sheppard is an asexual man who's never heard the word asexual and thinks he's supposed to like women but the inside of his mind is probably just like a game of Sudoku and a turkey sandwich. He legitimately thinks of Rodney as his bestie and would be perfectly happy just bickering beside him for the rest of his life.

This leads to all their interactions with women being--

Rodney: *in an anxiety falsetto* 'I love women ooh yes women are so sexy women just love those women,' his crush on Sam Carter not withstanding, I legitimately think he has a crush on her but also she's a twink so it's fine.

Sheppard: *shrug* This lady seems nice.

I just love John Sheppard a lot (at this point I would like to say I also love fanboy Cam a lot). It’s also 1:20am and my brain isn’t really in explanation mode but I will say this: he cares about everyone so much and puts himself down and I just want to hug him so much.
