We probably ""get it"" theoretically speaking, and have a powerful fantasy of what that might look like, but few of us have actually ever seen it in action. Which means, it may be up to you to create and hold a healthy image of what you truly want in your mind, and in your experience, so that you can call in a soul-shaking partnership that would light your heart on fiyah! I made this meme to help you start brainstorming. What would your secure relationship look like? We witnessed police SUVs ramming into peaceful protesters, rubber bullets aimed at news anchors on the scene, and brute force use of tear gas and pepper spray. As a South Asian media platform, we feel it is our utmost priority to disseminate information on how we can tackle anti-blackness within our own communities. But unlearning racism starts with educating ourselves. Please use this post to reflect on yourself, those around you and the society we live in. TPS is not accountable to the communities they supposedly “serve” FACTS: -the Toronto Police are 20 TIMES as likely to kill a Black person -Black people make up 9% of the population but 70% of the police shootings resulting in DEATH -20% of the SIU are former law enforcement -6/14 of the lead investigators are former law enforcement -2013-2018: 90% of SIU investigations of the TPS were cleared Swipe to learn more about why we don’t trust the Toronto police! “Wortley Report: Black people are grossly over-represented in SIU cases that involve police use of force and little has changed since the early 200s” Graphics made in collaboration with @eyesoffscarbs [PETITIONS + MORE RESOURCES IN BIO] Source: Ontario Human Rights Commission. You can make your neighborhood safer by deciding not to call the police; if you're not sure what that would look like, @internationalmisterpleather has alternatives for you to explore. Link in bio. #Repost @dra.zamiracastro • • • • • • Miami, Florida And now here you are. Here we are. I am going to resist the urge to make this a caption about how to overcome your (our) grief. That’s the helper in me, the human in me who wants to fix what’s broken. The human in me who doesn’t want to linger in grief because it hurts too much. So instead I’m going to invite you to name your feelings. Give yourself permission to grieve if that’s where you’re at. Give yourself room to name all those things you’re missing or longing for. Name all those things you fear never coming back. Name all the ways it hurts that some people or some things are never coming back. There is no moving on, without moving through. And right now, individually and collectively, we are all navigating what it means to lose. To lose our routines, our sense of what is safe, the security (however fragile) in knowing what’s coming ahead. Naming our feelings allows us to make sense of our experiences. This allows us to connect with what’s inside. And it frees up that feeling to move through you. If it can move, it will eventually. When people say “this too shall pass,” they’re right. But in order for this to pass, you have to let it. There will come a time when we can do something with our grief, something that frees us to move forward. But for now, naming it and feeling it is the first step. Con amor ✨ https://www.instagram.com/p/CA1RwtSgXb6/?igshid=ogp5ff1y65xd

And understanding that complaining is a symptom of something deeper - a pain, an anger, a hardship or injustice... might make it easier to extend kindness. When we feel better we do better - we need a lot of both right now. . . . #socialengagementsystem #polyvagaltheory #victimstance #selfsoothing #emotionregulation #narrativetherapy #wounds #debbiedowner #injustice #trauma #compassionpractice #metta #hurtpeoplehurtpeople #feelbetterdobetter #tools #therapy (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA1JKdOAVz2/?igshid=tkctel0f7dm6
#Repost @faratucker • • • • • • Portland, Oregon Sharing an old favorite. 💛 We are not meant to stay the same forever. Being alive means learning, changing, growing, transforming. This is one of the precious opportunities we have during our relatively brief stay on this planet. It can be an incredibly rewarding process and can make us better humans. It's also essential that we're willing to self-reflect, to listen to feedback and consider our impact on others, to be accountable, and to change our behavior when necessary. However, self-improvement can also be a sneaky way of acting upon and reinforcing messages that we are not good (enough or at all) and never will be. Self-improvement can be self-loathing, rebranded. When engaging in self-improvement activities, see if you can notice what's driving you. Are you being motivated by a voice that says you want to live a fuller life, that you *deserve* to be the best possible version of yourself, that you are worthy of love and belonging and joy? Or is it a voice that says you *better* change who you are (and quick!) because who you are is bad or wrong? Do you feel a drive in you to punish yourself, to fix what is broken or shameful? And whose voice is that anyway? Is it yours? Or is it a message you internalized from someone or somewhere else (a parent, a partner, the media, the larger culture)? Notice how you feel as you are walking (or sprinting) along your self-improvement path. Does it feel like encouragement? Love? Punishment? Self-abuse? Are your efforts to "better yourself" coming from self-hate or self-love? Even as you grow, can you love yourself along the way? ✌️💙 https://www.instagram.com/p/CA1GChIANy3/?igshid=6u0g0lggzjt2
