the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person 

from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating

I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.

This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.

the refusal to separate forgiveness from redemption also shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what forgiveness is. forgiveness is when the victim releases resentment for their own sake and does not require reconciliation, forgetting, or behaving as if the problematic behavior never took place

want to post More of my shenanigans this year, so I'm dropping off some Butterfly related stuff I did recently! one is for an AU I've been working on a lil more actively and one was part of a lil thought experiment of sorts???

I have a lot more work ahead of me BUT. I'll lose my mind if I Don't do it, so. in the meantime, a lil bit of lore:

First Image: The Painted Lady AU

A swap AU where Hawkmoth never existed. Instead, Paris is plagued by The Painted Lady, a villain who sends her champions to fetch her the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses. She's something of a cryptid. Even before her first attack, Parisians reported a shadowy figure skulking about with piercing, glowing eyes...

Second Image: Butterfly Night

Finally acting on a desperate plan he's been concocting for a while now, Nooroo uses his power to find a champion to save him - he accidentally creates more butterflies than usual, though, summoning a veritable army to the Agreste Mansion... Would take place before Season 6, because I think it could be a fun, dramatic, and chaotic scenario for things to go down in. Does it make sense? No. But I had fun doing a mini comic for it. Maybe I'll clean it up and post? Though, this is basically the last panel I made, so maybe I'll just repost this and write it in fic form, if I ever feel like expanding on this. We'll see!
