Some fun little worldbuilding about my world's cat race:
It's matrilineal meaning that children are seen as their mother's children before their father's.
When women grow up, they are expected to move out with close (women) friends and raise their children together. This means they are all seen as their children's mothers.
Men are expected to live in their own solitary housing, work, and provide income and recourses to women who they have children with. Because of this, their houses tend to be much smaller.
(Did I accidentally worldbuild an actual male loneliness epidemic? Potentially.)
While men and women still often date and may even be monogamous, their housing remains separate. Men who move in with women are seen as effeminate and women who move in with a man are seen as abandoning their family.
Relationships between a woman and man, and a woman and other women are seen as different. A woman might only date one man while having sex with other women and this is still considered monogamy.
Lesbian relationships and sex are relatively normal and typical in households but not ""real"" relationships as they don't produce children.
If a man has no children he usually provides money to sisters or mothers, but due to how private their lives are this is rarely discussed. Men not providing for women, though, is seen as selfish and greedy.
Women do 90% of child raising. Men may be involved in their son's lives but it's not uncommon for them to be completely disconnected.
Women who don't want to or can't have children often still live with other women to help care for children. [Potentially an option for transwomen in this culture?]
