okay i have a long and complicated heterosexual steve/bucky au but what matters is that the super serum functions essentially like testosterone & steroids. and thus a cis female steve still passes for a man and ends up doing a whole mulan thing with captain america. which she has complicated feelings about but lets not get into that bc the point of this post is her accidentally stolen-valoring like half the identities within the lgbtqia+ community
sam thinks shes a trans woman who's transitioning in the modern era. super reasonable assumption based on what he knows ("captain america" is a man in all the history textbooks, but stevie actively makes an effort to get gendered right off the clock). he fumbles on pronouns like twice while figuring it out and then becomes Steve's Biggest Ally TM and never finds out he is aiding a cis woman with her gender dysphoria and not a trans woman. cool bro move regardless thanks man she needed that
natasha thinks steve is nonbinary and the gender role switching comes from that, because natasha has an insane relationship with her own body+gender and its connection to work. like her role as the femme fatale means she views being a woman as part of her job obligation/title; she views steve's gender situation as similar. she thinks steve is for real actually a man on the job and for real actually a woman off it and this makes so much sense to her.
tony thinks steve & bucky are gay men and refuses to delve into this because he is very worried steve fucked howard and he does not want the details. he makes a lot of mildly homophobic quips that he views as a status of him being progressively accepting (think the "no son of mine wears a skirt........that doesn't match his top!" jokes people made in the 2010s) which steve either totally misses or just views as sexist jokes that she ignores.
thor thinks steve & bucky are lesbians and is very happy for them. he's way more used to the muscular body-builder look on woman so he can easily tell that steve's a gal, but during his early days on earth when he had long hair a lot of people informed him that 'long hair is a girl thing' (it was 2009 after all). so thor assumes any human he sees with long hair is a woman, ergo bucky must be a woman. what a beautiful lesbian partnership. he hopes he gets an invite to the wedding
5) bruce thinks steve is a trans man because all of his deep delving into the serum means he understands that it essentially functioned as ultra-transitioning but he doesn't really get how fucking crazy steve was about Having to Fight in the War and thus he assumes this was gender affirming care for steve as much as it was anything else. hes misgendering steve so hard but he thinks hes being really supportive in doing so, and steve is both very used to scientists specifically disregarding her perspective and also coworkers in general getting it wrong, so she just. ignores it. in 10 years when bruce figures it out hes going to feel like the worst person alive. Bruce also assumes steve is bi because he buys into the peggy carter cover backstory for Captain America & is aware that steve is currently married to bucky.
6) clint has no idea what gender steve is and is too afraid to ask at this point. but hes pretty sure they (?) are asexual because they (?) haven't seemed to be attracted to anyone in all the time they've worked together, even when natasha does her classic "lets make out for a cover identity' thing and- oh they(?) have a husband(?). a partner of indeterminate gender also? clint gives up. thats captain america. he's just going to use the captain title in every sentence instead of pronouns.
i dislike the whole “horror is so back” narrative people are throwing around recently with obsession and backrooms. both are great movies, but horror was also so back with the long walk. and sinners. and the substance. and nosferatu. and literally anything directed by jordan peele. horror as a genre will always have its flops. but there will always be those few that revive the hype.

like why is it that it is easier for some of you on this website to become acclimated to the queer people around you reclaiming slurs like faggot or dyke but as soon as a black blogger has the GALL to say nigga you start getting scared because for some weird reason the concept of someone around you using a word they have the right to use and you do not scares you? GROW UP
to be honest i think some of you are just afraid of someone around you using a word that very bluntly makes you think about the fact that you (YES YOU, WHITE PERSON!) descend from people that benefitted off of killing and raping and exploiting black people on a mass scale (and this goes for non-american white people too i have no idea why people from european countries do not think this applies to them. my grandparents were born in an english colony... when it was still a colony!!!!! there are places that are still being colonized RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!)
Something I think that a lot of leftists and progressives fail to understand, is that the push against normalization with Israel and for the complete dissolution of the state, actively makes the situation worse for Palestinians. It actively makes the conflict worse, and I would argue is one of the direct causes for the war getting as bad as it did.
You are directly harming your own cause.
Refusing to acknowledge the existence of the State of Israel doesn’t materially change the reality that Israel is a sovereign nation with over ten million citizens. When leftists in the west chant “from the river to the sea” and “we don’t want no two states”, regardless of the intention, what do you think Israelis hear? What do you think a people that has faced genocide in living memory, from which our population still has not recovered, gets from that? We don’t hear it and consider your points, we hear it and remember all of the times Israel has been attacked with genocidal intent, and only survived through our own defense.
And what does this ultimately result it? It results in Israelis who no longer believe in the peace process. It results in Israelis who feel a visceral sense of fear which leads to doubling down on national security. It leads to diaspora Jews feeling unsafe in their communities and immigrating to Israel.
It leads to the total dissolution of the peace process, and what happens if there is no chance for peace? If there’s no hope for any type of solution then the only answer is endless war, and this war doesn’t just hurt Israelis, you know that.
At a time where jewish groups are being banned from pride events, you do not get to use Anne Franke, a dead jew murdered for being jewish before she could ever come out, as a puppet for whatever queer rights message you want to share.
You do not get to profit, financially or attention wise or another way, off of a *potentially* queer jew whilst we are banned from pride events.
We do not know if she was questioning her sexuality but ultimately straight or if she was actually queer because she was killed for the crime of existing as a jew before she could come out. Queer rights obviously matter. Anne Franke is not the person you should be using.
You need to protect alive queer jews. You need to love all jews, not just the dead ones.
I think a lot of these antizionists types are so desperate for Israel to be a European Colony because they think that colonialism is the root of every single problem across the world and that the only way a state can be bad is if it was founded on colonialism. There is no other way for a state to have a shitty government unless that government is colonial.
And like... Oh boy.
That appears to be part of it, to me, but also: it's a convenient source of scapegoating, for American 'antizionists' anyway, of the left-leaning persuasion. If you're a white American antizionist who's left-leaning, you don't like colonialism (neither do I!) or its legacy. Buuuuuut grappling with that legacy, the way you benefit from it, and seeking to redress it where you actually live is slow, boring, unglamorous, and could potentially involve some actual personal sacrifice. Meanwhile, there's a buncha Jews over there...

Adding to this as someone whos also Native American, a lot of white leftists at least in the US it seems, prefer the idea of talking about Israel being a colonial state/power because its gives them the opportunity to feel self righteous about denouncing the horrors of colonialism, without doing any actual hard work because the problem is "over there" giving them the best of both worlds. They want a way soothe their white guilt with no actual healing.
Conversely I see something similar with non white people demonizing Israel as well, wherein seeing the lack of progress regarding positive work towards moving on from the harm colonization has done, or not seeing the forest for the trees, has people wanting to focus on someone else's colonization (real or not) to feel like theyre doing something and making moves towards a goal they havent been seeing at home.
Also to be clear becuase I know someone will misinterpret this, I am not saying they are the exact same situation, they arent entirely and have nuances making the differences matter.
My examples are of 2 different groups for different reasons but reasons still relating to the pain of colonization, using Israel and/or Jews as a scapegoat in an almost grass in greener situation in terms of taking on someone else's situation to feel better about their own, and so they force a similarity.
In my more cynical moments, I think that most white American leftists with a hate boner for Israel do so because it allows them to pretend that they don't benefit from the ongoing oppression of Black and Indigenous peoples in the United States.
By the same token, when I'm feeling cynical, I'm inclined to believe that Europeans with a hate boner for Israel use Israel as a way to avoid reckoning with their own countries' brutal oppression of Jews and to absolve themselves of their own countries' colonial misdeeds which continue to impact entire continents.
But what else is to be expected from nations that have, for centuries, oriented their worldview around a Jew who died to wash away the sins of humankind?
