2: BDSM Domestic Cycle:

Aftercare - After an intense scene, both partners can be physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. This is a good time to drink water and eat food to replenish any spent energy

Debrief - When both partners are ready, they can sit down and discuss what they enjoyed about the scene, what did not work in the scene and how they can both do to improve upon future scenes together

Domestic Abuse Cycle:

Abuse - A physical or verbal form of violence is committed against another person

Guilt - The abuser becomes worried about being caught and the potential consequences

Excuses - The abuser will shift blame, make excuses and rationalize in any way they can to avoid taking responsibility of their actions

Honeymoon - The abuser becomes the perfect partner, bringing gifts and doing all the things the victim has always wanted them to do. This is done to ensure the victim stays in the relationship.

Planning - The abuser starts to feel a loss of control and begins planning ways for them to regain control

Set-up - The abuser waits for a time when their abuse can be justified

Can I just vent about how unwelcoming the pro-ship community on Twitter is? Because they always make statements that either imply or outright explicitly state that they think that all Gen Zs are antis, and I hate it so much because I'm a gen z pro shipper. I hate that they've turned it into generational politics, because it makes me feel like they'd rather me be an anti because that would fit their narrative better.

Proshippers on Twitter generally seem to be more “anti-anti“ rather than actually “proship“, which is very strange and counterproductive, in my opinion. The difference being that proshippers believe in respecting different tastes and minding their own business and anti-antis are all about … hating antis. Hooray. And the resulting mindset is just Not Good. I mean, I´ve seriously seen some of them joke that “People who don´t like smut might as well be the purity police”, or that “Not liking BDSM just makes you prudish”.

So it´s just two sides of the same spectrum, no nuance or brains used.

Apart from that, it´s a perfectly valid observation that the first days of fandom are fundamentally diffrent from what fandom is today, but like ... It´s not the fault of fandom newbies that social media is geared more and more towards consumption rather then community. Making this an “old vs. young“ issue is ... so useless and shallow.

I will not stop mention this to everyone, but this is a very intentional language, a language meant to paint the people saying the things you said are wrong as the ones with the evil intent. There is no “you misunderstand me”, “you took that out of context” or “I didn’t meant that way!”, that are all bullshit excuses but at least could be interpretated to be an honest mistake. “You are slandering me” implies manipulation, an active effort to fuck her reputation because whatever reason she thought out and she is nothing but the victim of the evil people. It’s a very specific narrative she pushes every time everyone say her bullshit is not okay. It’s a red flaggy as fuck language.

Not to appear everywhere and shove my opinion on people's posts, but that post in question was about people who expect their friends to do their emotional processing for them. I don't want people to think I reblogged it for the wrong reasons. :s

I reblogged it specifically because that was the beginning of how my abuse started in my relationship. While I understand friendships and relationships are different and a friend will typically not come to you for support in the same way a significant other might, I wanted to reblog it so people could be aware. Wanting support from a friend because you've been through a lot is absolutely okay! You should reach out to your friends! But don't expect them to solve the problem for you, or rely only on them for support/pressure them into being constantly there for your emotional labour.

Me being the only person my abusive ex ever talked to about his suffering (he refused to speak with therapists or other friends about this) made me essentially take on his emotional workload. I also have serious depression and anxiety issues myself, as well as bouts of hyperempathy from autism, so hearing about suicidal ideation and how much you hate everything and how the world is a terrible place is triggering for me. I didn't want to spiral back into depression (which is exactly what ended up happening) or worsen my panic attacks (ditto), but whenever I told him I had my own mental health issues to manage and I couldn't manage his too without my own health going to shit, he said things like "the only reason I have for putting in effort in my life/not just wasting away is you" or "if you left me I'd spiral so far into depression that my parents would kick me out of the house and then I'd starve on the streets if I didn't freeze to death first" or "a therapist wouldn't help me, and I can't tell my friends, you're the only one who I can talk to" or "you're the only person who makes me feel better, so if you want me to cheer up you have to do it".

I hope you understand that I would never say don't reach out to your friends for support. Just please be considerate of the toll it takes on other people to be someone's only confidant/surrogate therapist when they themselves are struggling or unqualified. 🙏

Recently I've felt really unwelcome in the proship community (and leftist communities as a whole) because people keep talking about how it's stupid to have your main hobbies revolve around the consumption of media, especially media that isn't considered "high art"

People act like if I prefer to spend my free time watching YouTube videos and playing harvest moon games that must mean I don't have any critical thinking skills, or that I'm not smart... But really it's just a combination of horrible chronic pain, and neurodivergence/mental illness. I barely have enough energy to function day to day, I just want something soothing to do with my free time. But I constantly feel ashamed of myself for not being able to spend my time reading novels or learning a useful skill.

I hate seeing proshippers talk about how antis only watch kids shows and don't read books, because that describes me too even though I'm a proshipper and I'm completely capable of thinking critically and understanding complex ideas. I just don't have the energy to be reading novels, even getting out of bed is difficult most days and I'm already so depressed that consuming media with a darker tone can put me in a dangerous mental place.

I guess it just feels like proshippers of all people should understand that the media you do or don't consume doesn't necessarily mean anything about you as a person. You can read a ton of complicated novels but never develope the skills to have more than a surface level understanding, or you can be completely capable of complex critical thinking but choose to spend your time watching gravity falls. Someone watching "basic" shows doesn't make them stupid, it doesn't mean anything about that person other than they enjoy those shows.

I don't know... I'm sorry to rant... Maybe I've just had bad luck with people... I'm just so tired... There's a ton of ableism coming from antis but I feel like proshippers can also be pretty ableist too... There's just no escaping it... I just want to be left alone to enjoy the few things in my life that make me happy without people telling me I'm stupid for not spending what little energy I have on things that make me miserable...

Related to that recent anon... I’ve been noticing pro-shippers, even big name proship people, attacking and even dogpiling others who are only guilty by association to the person who has done wrong, continuing even after being asked to stop by the person they’re attacking. And it’s really discouraging tbh. Of course the proship mentality isn’t a *group*, it’s anyone who won’t hurt others for fictional content, but seeing this behavior happen, and even supported, really makes me reluctant to call myself proship.

I've had antis acuse me of not actually being asexual because I wouldn't be ""siding with the nasties"" if I was. I've also had proshippers assume that because I'm asexual I must be an anti out to ban all things NSFW (I'm not even sex repulsed???). I've experienced my fair share of ableism from both sides too (specifically regarding mentall illness).

Being an anti or proshipper in and of itself says absolutely nothing about a persons stance on anything else. Sure there are certain things that we tend to agree on, but we're not a hivemind.

I'm hating the fact that an increasing number of people in the pro-shipping community are starting to toss the word anti at everyone who says something negative about a fandom related thing. "User X is an anti!" I am told and when I check it out, I find out X posted an untagged post on their blog where they vented about a trope or a ship or a character they dislike. And it's becoming more and more common. Can we keep the word anti for people who are, not people who simply dislike sth we like?

I am proship in the sense of being extremely anti-harassment and against callout posts, and pro- blocking people and muting tags if you don't want to see stuff. I also have delusions. I am medicated, and for the most part, they don't interfere with my daily life, but the truth is, the line between fiction and reality is blurred for me. But I've found that so many proshippers get up in arms when I say this to them, telling me that I should be an anti, that I should only watch kids' shows (1/2)

and that I should stay away from dark fictional content. i know myself very well. i know how to avoid stuff i can't see. i can take care of myself on days that i can't see stuff like loli/sho and character death. i am a grown adult. but having other proshippers telling me to my face that i'm making them uncomfortable because of my own mental state is just unfair. my block list is full of both proshippers and antis because of people like that. (not a troll btw i can go off anon if needed)
