Ireland flashback 🍀 | Last Friday we were exploring southwest Ireland, driving a hiking throughout Killarney National Park. As we headed back to town we stopped at Ross Castle, at the edge of Lough Leane. The Irish believed the castle would never be taken, unless a drive came by water (which was unimaginable at the time). Originally built in the 1400s by the O'Donaghue clan, the castle was the last to succumb to the English (Cromwell) in the 17th century--and indeed their siege came by the waters of Lough Leane. After being used as an artillery barracks and falling into decay, the castle became a public trust on the condition it would be restored.
