Carlo died alone. Not knowing the reason for Romeo's absence, he was sure that no one needed him, since he was forced to face death alone. Not looking into the face of a loved one for the last time, but contemplating only the ceiling of the shelter he hates. Maybe that's why P didn't remember anyone when he woke up. And the revived Carlo was full of cruelty. It hurts too much to remember, too hard to forgive.

Continuing my point about Romeo being late. This can be considered a headcanon.

Its genuinely scary how fast the petrification disease swarmed Kart station and how many carcasses appeared too, especially the giant ones after Romeo was defeated. Like it puts into perspective how much Romeo was trying to keep things at bay with the puppets/disease, as you've seen at the cathedral when puppets were fighting the carcasses. Which explains how worse for wear he looks and chipped up he is, poor soul was probably doing this for the entire frenzy while still holding onto the memories of his best friend. Him being defeated was probably the only kindest thing that was given to him in literal years by the person who looked similar to his friend. P, once again, did a kind thing without even realising it.
