I was thinking about when the Inuyasha-esque time travel au was popular and I just couldn’t help myself 😅

Wait so, yilling wei yin use bloodbending right ?!

I actually have a notebook full of ideas for this particular AU, including how Wei Ying develops blood bending while trapped in the Burial mounds. In my universe, bending is related to golden cores, so everyone’s a non bender till they can cultivate one.

This becomes an issue after the core transplant because how could Wei Ying learn to blood bend without his core? Then I remembered about the spirits and lion turtles and came up with an alternative.

So after being chucked into the burial mounds, freshly coreless, he encounters a crow spirit corrupted from the resentment. He comes to make a deal with the spirit. In exchange for a new core so he can take revenge against the wen sect, Wei Ying must come back and save the BM spirits from the resentment corrupting them. The crow leads Wei Ying inside a hidden spirit portal within the BM, and its inside the spirit world he meets the lion turtle who gives him back his core.

Afterwards, he still stuck in the Burial Mounds for three months and he develops blood bending with his new core. Before Wei Ying escapes, the crow spirit places a curse on him as an assurance that Wei Ying keeps his end of the bargain. The longer he takes to help the spirits, the more the curse will grow and corrupt his body, till he is nothing more than a spirit himself.

Thus the terrifying Yiling Patriarch is born

So this is just a long winded plot point for Wei Ying to also learn spirit bending down the road 😅
