TIP: The Garden can be a big contributor to expensive water bills. Ever seen water spraying from sprinkler systems onto the sidewalk, between plants and even onto the road? Drip irrigation systems are much more efficient than sprinkler systems. Most sprinkler systems tend to be between 75-85% efficient while drip irrigation typically has an efficiency of 90% or higher. It applies the water slowly and directly to the soil, which also allows for less evaporation. The system is easy to install and pretty inexpensive, so for those of you out there that like a bit of DIY action then this is a big plus for you. LA Green Building gives two thumbs up to drip irrigation.
