I will keep that in mind, Noah. Last thing I want is end up with a severed limb. Or some damn saw trap. Those movies were…. Pretty great… When not living in one. “

          “with everything we’ve been through i wasn’t sure what audrey was gonna call this,” after riley it was hard to use the word dating anyways. it sounds like a death sentence at this point. though that’s... kind of the point. if he can find out what makes john murphy tick, he can find out how to make him stop. “that being said, if you have an issue with me, please know that one time audrey pantsed the most popular guy in school because he called me the f-word and it turned out he was going commando that day. and act on your feelings accordingly.” a beat, and whatever shred of seriousness he had is gone. “this is the first time audrey’s dated a guy i actually like, congrats.” too bad you’ve gotta die.

       so far she hasn’t had a knife plunged into her chest, but she seriously imagines that this is what it feels like. she can’t breathe for a second, and every inch of her feels like it’s on fire with tension. she wants to DO SOMETHING, to react, but she’s stuck in the hardest place she’s ever been in.

       HER BEST FRIEND KILLED HER FIRST GIRLFRIEND.

      he had a reason, she knows he does. he wouldn’t do it without a reason. but that doesn’t change the fact that HE THREW RACHEL OFF A BALCONY WITH A NOOSE AROUND HER NECK AND THEN COMFORTED HER WHEN SHE WAS UPSET.

       as soon as she finds it in her to do something she’s off the bed, very nearly bolting to the other side of the room. he arms curl around her torso and she doesn’t speak until she turns around, tears burning her eyes as she lifts a finger to point it shakily in his direction. “—i can understand… nina and tyler. i can forgive that. i can do… anything i have to do, no questions asked… but rachel, noah?”

    if there’s anything noah is going to lose audrey over, it’s rachel. he knows that much. they’ve been friends for the better part of eight years now, but this was audrey’s first girlfriend. he watched her break down over her. it hurt, to hurt audrey. 

    if he was audrey, he’d want to strangle himself right about now. all noah can see to do is bring his knees to his chest, and try not to let panic escalate to something worse. the last time he had a panic attack they were twelve and some kids tried to put him in a locker. he can do this. he didn’t want to hurt rachel, audrey will understand that. 

       “i didn’t have a CHOICE. rachel had proof of... one of the killers. and they had proof on me. i had to.”

      timed interviews with the famed podcaster.      USING HIS VOICE to tell a story that kieran wrote in blood.             prison offers him no chance of escaping talking to the people that he betrayed.         noah didn’t bother him.      THEY ALL HAD A DARK SIDE.       the boy just poked too much.

        “i don’t really get a lot of offers.     i figured that you or audrey would end up here eventually.    CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT, after all !! “

      this is off the books. personal. none of this will be uploaded to the morgue, if noah can help it no one will KNOW he was here. this is all for him, he needs to understand. he needs answers to move on, he’s just hoping kieran has gotten so bored with prison that giving him answers will pose as a form of entertainment.

      “did you kill riley too, or was that on piper?” he’s not scared of him, no the look in his eye seems just numb. “and if you did, why her?”

      for a moment she doesn’t say anything, staring at his face to try and determine if he’s really telling the truth. why would he say it if he wasn’t? her breath catches in her throat and she looks away, panic building in her chest. maybe she should be afraid of him. maybe she should be angry with him. but what she feels, overwhelmingly, is concern for him. because if the current killer is tormenting him, he has something to use against him.

       “—who else, noah?”

      “nobody,” the word comes out of his mouth too quickly to be anything short of suspicious. “i mean... nobody i wanted to. i didn’t want to hurt anybody else besides them, please know that.” but that means there’s at least one other person he has hurt. god, how does he say this to audrey? he didn’t have a choice, but audrey can be blindsided with rage and.... 

               “...rachel.”

          this is officially noah’s worst idea. ever. no one even knows where he is, he told audrey he was going to work with stavo on the comics, told stavo he was going to go with audrey to the movies. this is a terrible idea. but then again, he can’t really get that hurt inside a prison visiting center. ”–i’m surprised you accepted putting me on your visitors' list.” 

         then again, kieran’s probably surprised that noah even requested to be on it. but he has questions. he needs answers, even if he doesn’t get them straight out of the gate, he can figure them out. or... or visit more than once. he needs to know why.

       she moves to sit beside him on the bed, feet propping up on the side of it and elbows resting on her knees. she watches him closely, biting the inside of her cheek as she listens, and her eyebrows tug together. “yeah, so? what, is he trying to make it seem like you actually did it?” after all, he’s doing that to her. her fingerprints on eddie’s murder weapon… but something about noah’s silence, about the look on his face.

        “… wait… noah, you didn’t.”

     he’s never so desperately been wishing he was lying to audrey. he doesn’t really lie to her that often, and when he does it’s usually just fibbing. he can’t even look her in the eye. he’s still tapping away at his thigh, trying to think of how to say something, anything. “yeah, i did.” deep breaths, foster, audrey loves you. 

        “–tyler too.”

       she comes into his room without knocking— she always does, sometimes when it’s inappropriate, as it turns out— and she swings the door shut behind her. her eyes lock onto noah’s frame, focus on the tense way he’s pacing the room, and her eyebrows tug together. “hey— hey, is it seriously that bad?” she asks, stepping forward and grabbing gently onto his arms. “c’mon, take a seat or something.”

      “seriously bad is an understatement,” his voice is barely above a mumble as he just lets her drag him to sit down on the edge of the bed. despite the fact that audrey’s there now, and she seems willing to listen, his fingers are tapping anxiously at his leg. “you know how i jokingly said that i totally could’ve killed nina because i hated how she treated you?” nervous bout of laughter. “about that..”

    it’s probably better audrey hears this from him, and hey if they’re both being targetted it’s not like kieran can fuck with him irrecoverably. the most important person in his life is audrey, and kieran needs her to terrorize. he needs to tell audrey. because if he doesn’t tell audrey, and it gets out, everyone’s going lord of the flies on him and she might hate him. he’s been basically pacing a hole in his carpet the entire time waiting for audrey. she’s gonna hate him. this was a terrible idea. horrible.
