I stopped watching ‘Ghosts’ after 5x04

‘Ghosts’ fandom, Nisaac nation, it is time that I come out and say

I’m done

With how they threw away Nisaac and acted like it meant nothing was shocking to me. The way this show treats its queer characters has become pathetic to watch. They’re basically writing Isaac to be a joke at this point. LITERALLY burying the gay underground with the basement ghosts. And how they basically got rid of Nigel and don’t expect us to notice. So with that, I must say…

Abilities: Expert swimmer, breathes fire, can breathe underwater (despite being half NightWing), can light up the scales on her wings to resemble bioluminescence in the water

About Lucía: She keeps to herself most of the time, but does prefer company every now and then. Her favorite things to do are to swim and to read. She doesn’t fly often, preferring to swim to her destinations. One of the many things other dragons assume about her is that she’s too soft and not a good fighter. While she is a pacifist, she’s more than able to hold her own in a fight and has on multiple occasions.

My official ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Rider and Dragon

Rider

Name: Sirena

Gender: Female

Age: Early 20’s

Pronouns: She/Her

Tribe: Early indigenous Taíno (from Cuba specifically)

Backstory: Sirena comes from a tribe of indigenous Taíno who specialize and worship in Tidal Class dragons. She lives on a small island with her family where her parents are the leaders of her tribe. Despite her family’s status, she chooses to live her own life. Sirena’s primary job is fishing which she does with the help of her dragon: a Windwalker named Ventoso. When she isn’t fishing, she’s either painting, swimming, or exploring nearby islands and archipelagos. Other tribe members pity her, thinking she might be lonely. But Sirena just likes to be by herself, spending most of her time relaxing by the water with her dragon.

Weapon: A spear wrapped and woven in sargassum with a sea urchin shell at the bottom

Shield: A loggerhead sea turtle shell covered with Ceiba tree thorns on the front and has a wooden handle on the back

Name: Ventoso

Species: Windwalker

Gender: Male

Age: Early 20’s

Backstory: Ventoso is Sirena’s dragon, gifted to her as an egg when she was born. As such, he and Sirena grew up together and share a very close bond. He often helps his rider with fishing and collecting food for their tribe. He also assists Sirena with pretty much anything she does, even if she can do those tasks herself. Ventoso very much mirrors Sirena, not wanting to spend much time with other people or dragons. He just wants to spend his days with his rider swimming, exploring, and relaxing by the beach.

Maybe I’m just tired and cranky, but I’m at a point where I’m wondering why nisaac was even put in the show in the first place. It really feels like the show just doubled down on the idea that it meant nothing to either of them. That whole bit was so boring. You have Nigel come in to act completely out of character? The show is just refusing to do anything interesting with them at this point.

Idk, maybe I’m just tired. What are y’all’s perspectives on this episode

Some people (myself included) believe the negative treatment of Nisaac these past few seasons seemingly came out of nowhere. They were the show’s most popular pairing and held so much promise for LGBTQIA+ representation on television. But then they break up and suddenly the show tries to act like the relationship between Isaac and Nigel never meant anything. That and pushing aside the main queer relationship for the heterosexual relationships (as apparent in season 4).

DISCLAIMER: This is just my opinion. I can be completely wrong about this and still salty they broke up but I want to see if I’m not the only one who thinks this.

what do you think about nigel's relationship with the mansion ghosts? because the show is trying to tell us that they were close (or at least that nigel thought they were close) but doesn't actually give us any evidence that it's true. in the same episode that nigel says that he's gonna miss his new friends and that he came to see them as family they mock his pain and attempt to kick him out of the house. so far the only characters that have actually shown some sympathy for him are alberta and hetty (and the latter doesn't even like him!!). everybody else does not seem to care all that much about him.

(i'm not counting isaac in all of this cause that's another can of worms all together)

i think I’ve shared before that i think the first few episodes of season 4 are uncharacteristically cruel to Nigel. Even Jay, someone who is often out of the loop, but never mean to the ghosts kinda twisted the knife by insulting him and questioning his presence.

Post season 3, I don’t think Nigel and the mansion ghosts were as close as Nigel thought they were. But, I think he sought comfort in them because he wasn’t in the best place with his other friends. Baxter had co-opted his wedding to marry carol, and Jenkins… well, Jenkins did all that. I think he coped with that by feeling more attached to flower and Thor.

But I also don’t think that comes from nowhere. The show really suggests that he bonded with Thor and Pete.

One of the things I love about this show, is the idea that human beings will always find a way to connect with one another. No matter how isolated and limited they are, conversation and connection is inevitable. Even over something as simple as ants. There is still so much to observe and talk about.

Season 4 and beyond acts like that meant nothing to Thor. And that’s unfortunate.

I forgot what my point was. But I’m just disappointed with how the show has treated Nigel recently

Nigel better get the BIGGEST apology possible from everyone for how they treated him. And look, I know he has his flaws. Who at Woodstone doesn’t. But he’s just become the show’s punching bag to everybody else’s stories. At this point, I’ll take this as Nigel’s villain origin story. #JusticeForNigelChessum
