ok i dont have the brain power to write fic atm so im just gonna propagandize and hope other ppl put this in their fic
i see a lot of ppl writing abbot as using crutches when he's at home - which is great - the pitt seems to function on a 12hr shift pattern which is really the upper upper limit of how long you want to be wearing a prosthetic for, so abbot probably wouldn't be using it at home as well if he can
however crutches - especially underarm crutches but forearm crutches too - do absolutely pose a risk of nerve damage
theres the risk of compressing the nerves in your arms and also the stress of having your full body weight on your wrists over and over
abbot works in emergency medicine - he NEEDS his hands
so for your consideration - wheelchair user jack abbot
now i'm not talking a standard hospital style chair like this
those cause a whole set of other problems, especially with your shoulders
i think he'd have a custom chair to use around the house, and even potentially out and about on his days off
something like this

tl;dr crutches are bad for your hands and i think abbot would use a chair instead.
