A/N: This is a creation Myth I wrote for my English class. Inspired by the Native American Stories of Creation.
“Before there was light or love, sound or sin, there was the void; Endless, incomprehensible, and alone. Through countless eons, the Void was always everything and nothing. Its only purpose was Gaia. In the centre of nothing, encompassing everything, there lay a seed of infinite potential. The void knew not what it stood vigil over, only that it had a duty to uphold. Billions of years passed, and nothing changed, the void remained empty save for Gaia. Even though love and hate did not yet exist, the void found itself sorrowful and despairing in its loneliness. Until a time when deep within its heart of singularity something changed, its despair and loneliness shifted into the first feeling of sadness and longing. With those first emotions came a tear, a single dew drop of the cosmos itself, everything the void is or ever could be solidified into a flow of consciousness. That consciousness fed the seed at the centre of everything, and with its hunger sated, the seed finally sprouted. It shed its skin of magnificent white.. tearing into thousands of tiny pieces that became the stars to fill the void, the 3 largest of the pieces became the constellations the people would come to know as Hadron, the morning bow, Celeste, the night's light, and the southern watchmen. Within the seed burst forth a radiant form that seemed to encompass the entire void, her skin as black as the void she now inhabits, hair like the flare of a sun, eyes that burned with all her infinite potential, and a flowing gown made of all the stars, nebulae, and cosmic clouds that her progeny are destined to create. She knows not her name, purpose, or destiny, all she knows is the void one could call father and her dreams of the fields of Elysian.
It was over millennia of watching its purpose breathe life into the stars that the vast void grew pleased and, through the whispers of the solar winds, implanted within the great lady of the cosmos the first sparks of ambition. And it was then that with a whisk of her hand, the vines of time grew. Ever-growing flora that brought about the beginnings of the great expansion. Their home grew, but alongside it, the passage of time affected her dearest creations in an unfathomable way. The years passed and the stars, unlike before, withered, crumpled into themselves. Their grandiose deaths brought her ambition to find a way to save the things she took such meticulous care of since her birth.
It was found that her attempts were futile. She tried to mold together the remains of the other stars, and continuously failed to create the life she had once seen, to light the fire of the great lights of her world. Just as her father, the darkness and emptiness of her home left her with an emptiness inside of her being she hadn’t ever felt. As she held the lifeless husks of the stars she tried to revive, her body curled around them to protect them better than she ever could when they were alive.
In her mind, she dreams of them and of a world unlike her own, one that isn’t lifeless and dark… She saw visions of things unlike anything she ever had, creatures roaming around a world with fauna and flora so beautiful that a single tear fell from her eyes and onto one of the husks.
From within something awoke, and a faint glow emanated from within. She, with her eyes closed, had not noticed the light, but over time the light grew brighter, and it was only when, similar to her seed, the husks broke, shattered, and large grey chunks of matter spread throughout the cosmos, and in their stead lay four figures in her large hands. One was made of pure light and had eyes as searing as the sun itself, his name is Wouktujosa. The God of the Sun. The man encapsulated within a star, who brought about the life of the sun people. Beside him lay a woman, her hair as green as the Vines of Time, small flowers grew and bloomed on her pale green skin, and within was the resting place of the very first beating heart. Her gentleness and beauty earned her the name Fhuyiya. The Goddess of the Earth and Life itself. Alongside her lay another male, one with rock as his skin, eyes as deep as the ocean, and clouds that act as his cover; he was given the name Taakegosa, the god of Earth, and the last figure, a woman with skin white as snow and face gentle and soft, her name would be Koerandin.
After each awoke from their deep slumber, they were met with the stagnant darkness in which their mother had been stuck for billions of years. It was in that very darkness they imagined the same visions and world that filled the dreams of their mother. With that, deep within them their purposes bloomed. As thanks to their great mother and father, they built a great altar from a piece of their souls, upon a planet the great sister of life made especially for their show of devotion. The name of this planet: Karthea.
Such a beauty it was, with the aid of the tiny minions of the goddess of Life brought about. Together they created the fauna that stretched across the vast planet. Flowers that only bloomed when underneath the water, vines and shrubs that glowed in the darkness of their world. Trees that reached high into the sky, and that harbored creatures that thrived in the cover of darkness. They were small, at first, tiny little amoebas that thrived off of the sap of the trees, but it wasn’t long before these small creatures grew to become grand creatures of the sky and land.
But these beautiful creatures could not survive without water, and it was Taakegosa who made the vast oceans on the surface of the altar to sustain the holy creatures. But along with the water, he brought about the first winds, and the first storms. But his storms, despite their destruction, nourished the land; with the dead creatures that lit it, the plants continued to grow, and more animals in turn were born. It was here that Koerandin resided alongside her sister and all the animals.
Koerandin was not the most formidable, nor the most ambitious, she had not a single clue what she wanted nor what to do. She was the only one that hadn’t found her purpose. She could feel it within her mother's vision; it was within her reach, but just as she reached her hand out, she was whisked away back into the darkness. Ever since the altar had been created, she wandered, without a purpose, without a semblance of an idea of what time held in store for her. But through her travels of the world her sister built with her own hands and observing the creations of her brothers and sister, she found that there was a balance.
It was only the year that her dear brother Wouktujosa had betrayed them that everything seemed to change. Koerandin, while on her walks throughout the illuminated forests that she noticed from the horizon, an orange light that blazed blindingly so, and the heat from the great blazing ball of fire wilted the beautiful fauna that hadn’t yet experienced such a light.
It was as if in a blink of an eye their altar had shifted, a once serene place now left with only wilted flowers and fragile creatures in her wake.
It was only after she had left Karthea to converse with the great mother that she and her siblings discovered the true meaning of the sudden appearance of the large object that decimated their altar. She explained that their dear brother Wouktujosa, had betrayed them all by bringing about monstrosities he was never supposed to. The stars had birthed them, and they were destined to remain dark thereafter, but their brother had revived them, and in turn destroyed millions of years of work and nurturing of a holy ground for their parents.
To say all the children and mother alike were furious was an understatement of immense proportions. Except for all but one, Koerandin. Within her, she could feel the pang of something odd, she could not quite place it, the way they listened so easily. Yes, his fire did kill the animals they had all cared for, but just as easily as the scale is tipped, it can be recentered. It did not seem as though the trio cared, only focused on coming up with a way to punish the man for his transgressions.
Koerandin rushed to her brother's side before anyone else could get to him, riding her great celestial deer, made of what she called dreamdust. It glittered throughout the cosmos, unmissable even to her brother's shielded eyes. As her companion halted to a stop, she looked down upon her brother, evident concern on her face, but alongside it accompanied eyes filled with hurt and confusion.
“Dear brother, what is the meaning of this? Betrayal, I hear mother mutter of… Is this true?” She spoke with a softness that nearly made it impossible to tell what emotions –and what storm– lay within her.
“Dear sister, I commit not the betrayal mother speaks of. I only wished to bring light to this world. The vision long ago, there was light, I only wished to please mother, to bring about her a gift, to show her my devotion to this world,” he winced at the way her eyes hardened, but deep within his light showed her true feelings. She had been upset, but within, she held a heart and mind that allowed her to feel more than any of them ever could. With this glimpse, he knew what he had to do…
“Please, dear sister, take these,” he muttered as he placed hundreds of small seeds in her hand, “ plant these upon the altar, allow them to grow, and I will nurture them with my light, and you shall give them the rest in the night. Together, we must work, promise me, sister?” It was then that the others arrived. After much bickering and negotiations, the punishment of Woutkjosa was decided. He would be banished into the very star he created first, the one for Karthea, and for all eternity until the great altar was destroyed would he be set free.
And so, he was banished to the star, and from then on would be known as the god of the great sun. At least, in Koerandin’s memory anyway.
After their brother was banished to the sun, they were all left without a part of them. Just as much as one complemented the other, it left them all empty when even one was missing. They continued to nurture the altar, Taakegosa learning to create the very first atmosphere of the planet to protect the life they had built from the ground up for a second time. And Fhuyiya, had learned to improve her animals, not only did she produce flora that was beautiful and aidful to those who ate them, but she created the first inklings of poison to allow the planets to survive and created the very first creature to hunt her creatures and allow them a chance to survive alongside every other creature.
But Koerandin, she was the same as she had been, continuously wandering day and night, watching her siblings create such beautiful things while she was stuck, still lost in her own mind and heart with what she was meant for.
It was one day during a rough storm that from her dress made of silk the seeds slipped out, some red as the sun and the others a pale-white. She attempted to catch them, she had promised her brother to do it together, to watch over them together… But with the great winds she was unable to grab ahold of them, and they scattered about Karthea resting in the moist or dry soils across Karthea, and from them bloomed the first moon and sun people.
The great sun people, followers of the Great Sun God Wouktujosa, revered him for his light that he brought. Despite the fact that not much life was active during the daylight but despite that, and the land that they inhabited, Fhuyiya still graced them with the crops they needed, and the animals with enough food and water to always drink. And although Taakegosa could be cruel with his treatment, his creations and weather created the beautiful mountains and climates of the Earth for all creatures to thrive within.
And then there were the Moon people, who followed none other than the great Goddess of the Moon, Koerandin. Once the seeds had spread, she, out of sadness at breaking her promise, banished herself to the other side of Karthea. She promised to stay until the very day that her dearest brother was set free from his prison, she would watch other people each night and ensure their safety and comfort. With the aid of her Dreamdust deer, Varisusa, she aids the people in their slumber and will, for eternity, continue to watch over all creatures along with her brothers and sisters…”
With that, the Great Shaman closes her dusty old book and looks up at the children. She chuckles as they look at her, astonished. They chat amongst themselves and share their own ideas. As the Great Shaman looked around at each of the faces of the children gathered from all over, a smile on her face as she ushers them out of her hut. She wished them a peaceful slumber, but as she stepped outside, lit incense in hand, she looked into the twinkling night sky and up to the shining moon. She saw a cluster of comets rain down and race through the sky. She silently bowed her head in reverence, holding the lit incense into the sky; she muttered in prayer,
“To the glories up above, may you protect us so long as we live in your memory, lunam et solem quos amamus.”
cw: Death of a loved one. That's all. Please do not read if death as such would trigger you, please and thank you.
The world was not complete without him in it, and the moment he was gone, she didn’t know what to do. She felt her heart ache and her mind muddled with thoughts of him… Of his voice as it echoed through the halls of their childhood home, of the days when he would tease her and leave her screaming at him to leave, or the calm days where together they’d sit, side by side on one of the other's beds and play stupid little games.
The ache only grew stronger as the thoughts piled up, the moments each distinct flashing behind her eyes, which were now welling with tears. They fell slowly, rolling down her cheeks first, and then her neck, leaving a wet trail in their wake. It was as if they too knew what had happened, and wished to console her by staying close, but only ended up leaving her more saddened.
She stood at the grave, gripping her shirt as she tried her best to control her breathing. She wondered, why couldn’t it be her? Out of everyone else on this Earth, why did he have to suffer? Why did he have to leave this world any earlier than she? It tore her apart. The questions plagued her, and she was sure they’d never go away, not until she joined him in the clouds above.
It’s funny… One doesn’t believe in heaven or hell, not until the moment someone like him leaves them… You don’t want to imagine them simply being gone, their body only taken by the Earth, and their soul gone like they were nothing. She wanted to believe in heaven for him; she hoped that, despite his actions here, he was in the clouds with those they had lost along the way, old family pets, grandmas, and grandpas that they had never had the chance to meet.
She hoped for everything for him, and it shattered her that she could no longer see him smile or hear his annoyingly beautiful laugh, or deal with his quirky tendency to take everything apart and put it back together, and pester her until she gave it a peak.
She had always taken him for granted, always telling him to go away… She wished she had never done that… She loved him with all of her heart despite his annoying behavior and the things he had once done. She loved him so much, and she wished that just one more time, they could be kids again, could play one more game, take one more drive, be together again…
But they couldn’t, and she knew that…
The tears fell more rapidly now, and she felt her body shake and her breathing become more shallow but desperate, and all she could mutter as she got on her knees was a few simple words,
Cw: Murder of an entire family, and implied main character death, Death of a child (Implied), Nazi occupied Poland. If any of those things are triggering for you, do not read this piece, please and thank you.
A/N: This little blurb follows the little girl in the Red coat in the movie Schindler's List. I of course did my best to not mock the experience of anyone who went through the horrors of this genocide or anything of the sort of those who suffered during the Holocaust. I simply had an idea of what may have happened to the little girl and her family and wrote something short to express my thoughts.
Her eyes burned, just as much as her legs stung from her constant running. It had been what felt like an hour of nothing more than a burn within her lungs, only taking shallow breaths as she ran through the woods. Oh, how the woods scared her to death, but she couldn’t stay, no matter how much she wanted to… If she did, she knew what her fate would be, and that she’d be yet another body thrown carelessly into the pile of many others.
It was something to see an animal such as a bird be shot, or shooting it yourself, but witnessing an entire family be murdered in front of you was completely different. It filled the small girl with fear, and she trembled as she watched the men with the suits drag them away. All she wanted to do was cry out, but she knew well that she couldn’t… And so with that in mind, she sucked it up and only sniffled, covering her mouth with her trembling hands.
But their heads snapped in her direction… They’d heard her. And they were coming for her next.
Her eyes shot open wide, and she shrank farther back into the protection of the shadows, but even that wasn’t enough to hide her form. She cried out as a man grabbed her by the forearm, dragging her out of the area she had hidden in… She clawed and screamed, attempting to get away… They were too strong. And she was too weak.
She wanted to scream louder, but she knew that wouldn’t help. It’d only make them more upset, and her death all the more slow and painful. They had made it quick for some, simply putting a bullet in their brain, but for others they drew it out. She’d seen them do it, and she was terrified that if she continued to fight back, she’d end up the same way. But she knew no matter how compliant she was, they’d kill her… They were trained to show her no emotion, no matter how much a person begged to live.
No matter how much one cried, or screamed, or begged, they couldn’t give in, they just had to do their job, even if that meant killing a kid as small and helpless as her.
It pained her that she had been as stupid as to make even a single sound when her parents had tried so hard to keep her safe and hide her. They had died to protect her, and now their love and bravery was being repaid by their own child's death? In her mind, this was ridiculous; she never let that happen. She had to hold on for a little longer… She could just feel it in her heart, that she could live, that she would make it out.
The men holding her had dragged her somewhere she wasn’t familiar with. The dried yellow grass was stained red and brown, and the smell of smoke wafted through the air. And that made her heart pound even faster in her chest. Was she going to be burned alive? No, they would surely kill her first, unless they truly were heartless.
Tears fell from her eyes, and she tugged her arms away, planting her feet down onto the ground, trying to give herself at least a little more time to think. She couldn’t just let this happen- she had to try again, and again, until she was thrown into the fire pits, or had someone but a bullet between her eyes or in her heart. But what could she do? She was small and frail, unable to even lift a brick, yet she wanted to escape men that were five times her size?
Cw: Irrational decisions in a car, speeding and almost crashing, yelling, and I think that is all. Please do not read this if those things trigger you, thank you.
Tears fell from her eyes as she looked out the window, the car speeding past the other vehicles on the road, jerky movements making her heart pound in her chest. There was no telling what would happen if the woman in the front seat continued on driving like this. They could crash, maybe even drive off the bridge to their untimely demise… She shook her head for a moment, trying to shake the thoughts from her mind, knowing that worrying would only make everything worse.
She was silent until the words left her mouth- the words she’d hoped to never hear: “I’m going to run away.” The words sent chills down her spine, she knew her mother was serious. She knew in her state of mind, anything she said was going to happen one way or another. Tears once more started to fall from her eyes… She slowly pulled the blanket over her head, trying to mask herself from the women that looked back at them.
It was hot and uncomfortable under the blanket, but even then she wasn’t going to get out unless she was dragged out. She couldn't bear to face her mother or anything else for that matter. She knew she couldn’t do anything to stop her mother, and so there was no point, even if she tried to talk some sense into her, she’d end up doing something that hurt all of them. Slowly she tried to compose herself, soft sniffles most likely audible to everyone in the vehicle.
And they surely were, but not to the person she was worried about, no, to the person she expected to not care… Her brother. She felt a tap on the shoulder, and slowly she removed the blanket, looking over at her blank-faced brother. It confused her how he looked so calm, how he wasn’t in the slightest scared, while she was having trouble keeping her emotions in check. He looked at her, gaze softening before he handed her a bar of chocolate and went back to looking out the window…
Her hands shakily held onto the food, and she smiled before more tears fell, thinking about how this may just be the last time she’d ever get to enjoy such a treat, or even interact with her brother at all. As best as she could with the snot and tears that were on her face, she opened the chocolate and took a bite, mentally thanking her brother… Not once had he been so kind since they had moved…
He always seemed so distant, no longer interested in playing ball in the hall or climbing trees or even going on walks with the dogs. The small gesture, although seemingly insignificant to the boy, made her feel as though she wasn’t alone anymore, as if someone, even if it were her aloof brother, cared enough to do something to make her feel better.
Her eyes stared down at the wrapper as she listened to her mother talk, and talk, making threat after threat, and throwing harsh words towards those she loved most… It wasn’t until the car stopped that she came out from under the blanket and realized where they were… Even then, the fear in her heart hadn’t lessened as she stepped out of the car, making a futile attempt to calm herself…

A scream resonated within the girl's ears, one that made her cover her ears as they began to ring and her head pound. Tears brimmed her eyes as she watched her mother hit the man in the front seat, her eyes full of what could only be described as rage mixed with a tinge of fear. The man gripped her forearm, nails digging into it just enough to draw blood. He spoke, his words slurred, and his eyes focused more on the woman attacking him from the passenger seat than the road.
No one could have predicted this outburst. She had no clue how it started; the only thing she knew was she wasn’t safe. Her body trembled as she held onto her brother, his arms wrapped around her protectively, warmth doing little to soothe her. She cried as she watched the two of them silently begging for it all to stop. The yelling, the screaming, the fighting- it was all too much for her. She needed to get away… She had to run.
Her brother let go of her for a moment, moving to protect his mother from the blow the man was about to pull on her. However, his attempts to stop the man were futile, as he quickly smacked the young boy across the face, cheek reddening instantly and tears falling from his eyes. The young boy didn’t stop even then. He continued to fight, to push the man away, to protect the woman who had done so little to protect him.
The car came to a halt, and the man in the driver's seat hit the boy once again, this time pushing him back before grabbing hold of his mother again, screaming at her again with a fist raised, ready to strike again. When his fist came in contact with her, a sickening crack was heard throughout the car, but the screaming didn’t stop. Her brother, bruised and battered from the fight, had opened the door and pushed her out before slamming it shut.
She lay on the ground, tears falling from her eyes before she got up, shaky legs barely keeping her up. Then she ran. Nothing but an endless stretch of road and trees met her eye, and she knew it was nothing but that for miles; she couldn’t get away no matter how hard she tried… She was stuck, with this man, with this woman, and in this place. Her sobs almost went unnoticed by her, until she tripped over her own feet, falling to her knees, pain only making the tears fall faster.
Her lungs burned and legs were sore from the running. Even then, she pushed herself up, blood trickling down her legs as she stood, continuing to run. Her heart stopped as she heard the engine start and the car door open and then slam shut. She looked back, her cries only getting louder as she saw the man heading her way. She continued to run, not bothering to look back, not until she felt a hand in her own… Her head snapped to her side, her brother running alongside her.
He was bruised even more than before, cheek turning purple and a laceration from the rings of the man they were trying to get away from on his forehead, blood trickling down his face; even then it didn’t seem to bother him…
She fell to her knees once more, finally her legs and lungs giving out, her consciousness teetering on the edge of a cliff, until finally she was pushed off. Her eyes closed, the last thing she saw was her brother's soft eyes, and the endless blue sky…

Her eyes widened at the words that came from her own daughter's mouth. She wanted to leave? She wanted to leave me… The older woman's eyes held a hurt, unreadable to the younger girl in front of her. The words, although nearly insignificant to her daughter, drove a spear through her heart. It made her wonder how such words could come from someone so young. How could someone no older than ten be able to so confidently say that she was done?
“What. What do you mean done?! You can’t be done, I’m your mother! How could you say something so hurtful, something worthy of a heartbreak to the one who’s been there your whole life!?” She cried out, her eyes swelling with tears, just as the little girl's eyes were. The pain was evident in both of their eyes, no matter how hard either of them tried to hide it. But one of them was one filled with not only hurt but anger. The older woman's hand slammed down on the table in front of her, the wood creaking and glass dishes clashing together. The action of her raising her hand was enough to make the girl tightly shut her eyes, but the noise only added to the fear that overtook the girl.
As her mother screamed, tears rolling down her red cheeks, she simply looked down at the table. She was far too terrified to get up, there was no telling what her mother would do, no telling how this one-sided argument would end… And she didn’t want to find out. Her eyes started to wander, the yelling was now a sound that faded into the background, as if it were something normal, something that was nothing more than static to the girl… It was. And it would always be. She may have been young, but even then, she was numb to the yelling, to the harsh words that fell from the older woman's mouth… She had always heard the same excuses, the same promises that would ultimately be unkept…
Once the yelling had been over and done with, she retreated to her room, tear-stained cheeks puffed out as she tried to keep it together. The yelling may have been something she was used to, but after every fight, she would send her off with words that she had never gotten accustomed to. “I wish you were never born.” No matter how many times she had heard those words, they never hurt any less… It hurt knowing the only person who seemed to care, and promised so many things, wished something such as that upon their own child… Tears streamed down her cheeks as she wondered if her mother was right, wondered if it would have been better off if she had never been born…
Maybe just maybe, her life would have been better without her in it…
That night was the first time she’d snuck into the bathroom, tiptoeing past her sleeping mother on the couch. She’d flipped on the light, her eyes watering as she reached for the cabinet knob, the cold glass making her shiver. She knew what she was doing would get her in trouble, but she couldn’t take it… the pain that swelled in her heart was now too much to bear. Her small hands felt around until they were met with the cold metal of the blade at the bottom of the basket under the sink. She pulled it out and bit her lip as she stood, taking one final look at her tangled hair and red cheeks in the dirtied mirror.
And then she dug the blade into the skin of her forearm, watching as the blood trickled out of the freshly opened wound. It stung; it felt as if a thousand bees had made her pay for disturbing their hive, but even with the pain, her mind was finally… empty. Once more she sliced the skin a small hiss leaving her this time, but that was all. No tears, no sniffles, nothing other than a quiet hiss. The sting worsened, and the blood now trickled down her arm and onto the intricate floor tiles…
As she went to once again slice her delicate skin, she heard a soft knock at the door, and then a quiet voice whisper out, “Is anyone in here?”
A/N: Not Proof-read so sorry if there are mistakes!

She could feel his eyes on her wherever she went. Even in the most private of places, she felt his eyes. And the thing was, she couldn’t even ask him to stop, to let her be, to allow her peace and quiet, for alone time. Because to him, those very words were a death sentence. Alone time? A moment without you by his side was torture; it was time wasted, and time you had to get away. He could not let that happen. You were his, his and only his. And if he could not have you, no one else could.
It made her cringe each time she heard those very words come from his mouth, and it made her heart beat a little faster each time. She knew he was not joking; he had written down the many ways he fantasized about ending the two of their lives… She had seen the little notebook and his handwriting as clear as day when she was about to clean his office. He had been off at a meeting that day, and for once, he allowed her to be up and about, only permitting her to clean, as time spent on other such things while he was not there were acts worthy of a punishment… and she sure as hell did not want to go through his wrath that day.
She did not mean to migrate to the office; she was never allowed in there, but she had cleaned everything else, scrubbed the ovens clean, mopped the floors, and even dusted every ceiling fan within the place. She could not sleep, nor could she sit down to enjoy a nice movie after working for so long… So she found another area to clean, even if it was forbidden.
As she dusted and wiped out drawers, reorganizing the drawers in his desk, she found a hidden compartment, a small black notebook popping out from said compartment. As he read through it, she had to put her head in her hands for a moment to think about everything up to this point. It was shameful that she really hadn’t put much thought into his behavior, but it was so normal to her that, after years together, she got used to it. The isolation, the punishments, the rules that her old friends called strange and abusive.
And now, as she read the many ways he had put into detailed words of their deaths if she were to leave, she almost broke down crying. She held back her tears, put the book away, and finished up her job before leaving the office and shakily closing the door behind him.
She waited patiently for his return, for him to get home from the meeting, as she looked out the window, watching the sun dip below the horizon. Although now that she thought about it, and she simply wanted to book it, how could she? She did not have a soul to go to, and there was no doubt that he was stronger than she was, and could very easily find her if he wanted to, and follow through with the very things she found in that notebook.
She shivered just thinking about it, and sadness pulled at her heart. She couldn’t just leave him; he was the love of her life, he gave her everything she wanted so long as she was a good girl for him, so long as she followed the rules. But her mind wandered, and she wondered what it would be like to go outside without his tight grip on her wrist and his eyes constantly watching her every move. She wondered what it was like to laugh with a close friend, and go to the movies, go to the club, or even the park… And she missed her family; she hadn’t even thought of them. It was like they didn’t exist in her mind before these revelations… But she missed them.
She felt a pang in her heart as she attempted to envision her mother and father's face, she wondered how many siblings she had, how many nieces… Was she an aunt? Was she a big sister or a little sister? The thoughts continued to pile up in her mind, a few stray tears falling from her eyes until she nearly screamed as she felt a hand on her shoulder.
As she looked up, there he was, eyes boring into hers, face soft, but at the same time, he looked irritated. She felt the way his grip tightened, and her breath caught in her throat as he leaned down to her level.
“You weren’t waiting at the door, baby. Why? Good girls wait at the door for their partners, don’t they? Or were you too busy looking at the stupid sunset?” He spat as he let go and quickly closed the curtains. “You know, maybe letting you be anywhere but the door today was a mistake, because it seems like all you do when you are free is disobey.” He growled before grabbing her wrist and forcefully pulling her up from the couch and to the bedroom.
“Sir, sir! I am sorry, I lost track of time! I was going to wait, I promise, I promise!” She cries, legs shaking as he pushes her onto the bed and grabs their all-too-familiar pair of handcuffs. She did everything else right, but she forgot to wait by the door. How could she be so stupid! She screamed at herself in her mind and looked up at him, tears in her eyes.
“I am sure you were going to wait, baby… But you didn’t, and you know what happens when you break a rule, baby… Or have you forgotten even that too?” he scoffed as he grabbed hold of her wrists. She doesn’t fight it, knowing it would only make her punishment worse if she did.
After he had secured the device around her wrist, he grabbed his second favorite tool, his leash. It was cute, pink, and lacey, a perfect fit for her, but as he wrapped the connected collar around her neck, he made sure to tighten it enough to make her claw at it to breathe.
“You know, baby, I was gonna be nice and just make you beg, but seeing as I was nice enough to let you be free today, to let you clean, and you so rudely break a rule when I am so fucking nice to you, I think you should be punished, not let off scot free. Oh no no,” he coos as she pulls on the leash and forces her to sit up. She was already drooling at this point, her cheeks red from the lack of oxygen. She felt the embarrassment creep into her, but it was quickly replaced with fear as he spoke.
“That’s it, baby, fucking choke, wish on every star that you don’t pass out, because if you do, master will do whatever he wants to you, and you know what happened last time,” he purred into her ear before he pushed her back down onto the bed.
She didn’t remember what happened, but as she groggily opened her eyes, she felt her whole body ache. She attempted to get up, sighing as she found herself cuffed to the bed. She turned over to ask her lover if, for just a moment, she could get up and use the restroom. She looked over, and her heart dropped; he was gone. It wasn’t simply the fact that he wasn’t there that scared her, but that she might have another incident. He had left her in bed one day and came home to find the sheets soiled, since she herself could not stop herself. To say he was mad was a grand understatement.
So he knew to, at the very least, keep her near the door and put a diaper on her, as embarrassing as it was, it was necessary if he did not want her roaming around without him while he was at work. As her thoughts ran and her bladder cried for help, her eyes snapped to the bathroom door as he walked out, towel around his waist.
“Ah, look who is finally up. I guess your punishment really tuckered you out, baby. You are lucky you woke up now, or else I wouldn’t have got you ready,” he chuckles as he takes the handcuff and carries her to the bathroom.
Although he was rough the night before, he was now gently scrubbing her skin and running his hands through her hair as warm water cascaded over her tensed body. He helped her brush her teeth and dry herself after he was all done, getting her dressed into a white dress, decorated with roses, and even putting her hair up with a dark red hair clip. He then helped her into a diaper and put on some lipstick for her before leading her to the front door and handcuffing her to the little loop he had drilled into the wall.
He placed a cushion under her knees and placed a few snacks near her, petting her head before leaning down and placing a kiss on her head and on her lips. She stared up at him for a moment before looking down at the floor, “Have a good day, sir… I will be here when you get back.” She did her best to sound cheery, but there was a twinge of pain in her voice.
He pats her head and smiles down at her, “Oh, I will, baby, but you have to promise me you’ll fix this little attitude, you know I like you with a smile, so be a good girl for me and smile,” he whispers as he crouches down. She looks up at him, and like it was second nature, she smiles cheerily, her eyes sparkling, and a giggle escapes her throat. He smiles back, placing a rose in her lap before slowly getting up and opening the door, “I will see you later, baby, be a good girl, and keep that pretty little smile on your beautiful face, hm? I love you.” He coos.
“I love you too, Sir!” she cheerily barked, smiling up at him before he closed and locked the door, leaving her there, alone, with the complete and deafening silence of their home, and with her own horrible thoughts.

“What is wrong with you, you ungrateful brat!? How could you tell them about the medications? They are helping you!” The old woman screamed as she grabbed ahold of the arm of the little boy cowering beneath her. She pulled him in close, close enough to smell her alcohol-ridden breath and see the fire raging behind her eyes. He should have expected this. He should have known she’d react like this. But he did it anyway, he disobeyed her, and now he was paying the price. As the older woman liked to say, “It doesn’t matter what you do, it will always come back to slap you in the face.” That much was apparent at moments like this…
Unlike the chaos that was ensuing on one side of the home, the other side was silent and still. In the dark sits a small girl, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. Tears rolled down her face as she listened to the harsh words that left the woman’s mouth directed towards a kid who’d done nothing wrong. It hurt her, knowing that this all could have been avoided if she’d hidden the phone better. Why couldn’t she have found a better spot? Why didn’t she take the blame for sending the messages? Why…
Getting up from the bed, she made her way through the halls, stopping in the doorway of the kitchen, her feet refusing to take her any farther…Any closer to the woman clutching the boy.
Her eyes darted from the boy's red and tear-stained cheeks to the woman hunched over and gripping his shirt collar. The older woman had always taken it too far, and now was no different. All he’d done was tell their father about what was happening, and she, after finding out, decided screaming at the boy would be a better alternative than simply talking to him.
“Why couldn’t you just keep your little mouth shut!? Now they’re going to take you away from me! Do you want that? Want them to take you away to live with that deadbeat of a father!?” She yelled as she shook the boy, only shaking him harder when he hadn’t answered her.
The boy looked over to the girl frozen in the doorway, eyes pleading with her, begging for her to help, to say something, anything. When she did nothing, he looked away with a saddened expression.
Her heart panged in her chest at the look of sorrow, disappointment even, that flashed across her brother’s face. It wasn’t long before it was overshadowed with fear as the woman pushed him into the cabinets. She wanted to help him, to try and stop their mother from dealing any more damage than she already had. But her feet were stuck, she was a statue, frozen and unable to do anything but stand and stare.
It may have been the fear of what would happen if she were to intervene, or just the anticipation of something far worse to happen… Maybe then they could actually leave her. Years of this torment were enough for the two of the children, but because of the nature of their mother, she refused to let them go.
Maybe one day, they could finally escape this hell… Maybe that day was today…
It is at times like these where I wish I wasn't afraid of the dark. Afraid of the things that could be lurking just beside me or behind me, or even in front of me. The pitch black, however, was too much for me to bear. I just couldn’t bring myself to take another step… No matter the amount I screamed at myself in my mind, tried to move, I couldn’t… I just couldn’t. It was as if I were paralyzed.
My mind raced, yet my feet did not follow suit; they stayed planted on the ground, so much so I was starting to assume they’d grow roots there… Or simply be frozen there forever.
I shivered and pulled my coat closer with one hand, and with the other I shone the flashlight around, shaking just as bad as my legs, if not worse. I called out the small creature…
“Brennan!” I called out once, “Brennan!” and then a second time, but there was nothing but the sound of the rainwater pelting down onto the pavement. It was as if it were mocking me, the rain. Mocking the tears that slowly formed and fell from my already swollen and blurry eyes… Mocking me by washing away the evidence of the one I was so desperately searching for.
The dark mocked me too… It seemed as though everything felt like mocking me today. It crept closer to me, inch by inch, as the light from my flashlight dimmed. The battery was growing ever weaker, and I knew that without it, I’d be helpless. I couldn’t just walk out there into the black abyss; I had to have light, or else they’d get to me… All those creatures that lurk in the night, that stalk and hunt helpless people like me.
I was dead meat if I stepped out there. But I had to, if I wanted to find him and get him back to where he belonged, in my arms.
With a cautious step, I was all the closer to the pavement and away from the light of the garage and motion camera. Even the thought of that made me want to run back inside, but I stayed, trying to get over the feeling of unease that built up inside of me.
One step…
Then two…
And a thi-
What was that?...
As I stood in the middle of the driveway, I whipped my head around, looking for the source of the noise. There was nothing moving, no small kitty running towards me or meowing for food and attention. No, there was just silence.
The rain continued to fall, and the darkness continued to taunt, but the noise was gone.
It only occurred for a moment: the rustling of a bush, or was it maybe the metal of the chairs on the side of the house? It was a sound that I couldn’t quite find in my mind; nothing I had ever heard was like it.
Quickly turning around, I searched for anything in the dim light my flashlight provided, but there was nothing. My breathing picked up, and my heart was pounding in my chest and ears. With panic filling me, I continued to whip around, feeling something touch my shoulder.
Was it a monster? Or was it just the rain?
I wasn’t sure, and I was too terrified to find out.
A moment passed, and I cried out as I felt something touch me again…
It wasn’t just the rain, it wasn’t just the rain. The words echoed in my mind.
And in a pure act of fear, I raced back to the comfort of the garage and the warm light.
Wishing that I wasn’t a coward, wasn’t so scared of the things I couldn’t see… That I wasn’t afraid of the dark.
A/N: I wrote this a WHILE ago, and I am glad to say my dear old Brenan is okay XD He got outside but came back and is still alive and safe. He gets out from time to time, but he always comes back thankfully. I am still afraid of the dark, but not so much my dear kitty from out XD
She was everything I wished I was, but she was someone I knew I could never be. No matter how hard I’d try, the lengths I would go, I’d never be her. Even the knowledge of such a thing made my heart yearn even more for what was seemingly impossible to obtain. It was impossible to be another person, I knew that, but it doesn’t mean I couldn’t want to look like her or to look like anyone for that matter. People do it fairly often, comparing their looks to the influencers that they see on their phones… I certainly do it all the time. Although, I knew that I’d never have her perfect skin, perfect body, or perfect family, but a girl could dream.
A girl could dream for clear skin void of blemishes and scars of any kind; for the perfect smile that lit up the room and looked good in pictures. A girl could dream for the perfect body, one that she felt beautiful and comfortable in. A girl could dream, for a family that wasn’t broken, and torn apart by grief and greed, a family that would always be there for her. But, these are only dreams, what more could they do other than distract someone from what’s right in front of them? As some say, “dreams will only get you so far.” Even then, they are all some people have, the only thing driving them when times get tough.
It often hits us after the fact, when you are sitting in your room after a long day. Body and mind tired from the strenuous labours of the day. From standing in flats for far too long and sweating nervously as you stand in front of a crowd with blank faces none of them recognizable. Just a blur, one caused from the lights, and the other the welling of tears within your eyes.
You feel the sadness grip a hold of you during the show. Watching the others with the people they love standing beside them, singing your heart out for a bunch of strangers. It grips so hard it makes it hard to smile, to let out a laugh at a missed note or dreaded orchestral piece. It makes looking out into the crown when the spotlights dim all the more difficult.
And now as she sits in her room, clutching her heart… feeling it ache within her chest she gasps for air and cries out. Only for it to be muffled by her own hands, the tears soon only falling in silence. Small gasps slice through the silence, and then the trembling breathes. They fill the silence soon enough and are all she can hear.
She knew this was coming. She already knew. She always knew, she just couldn't seem to accept it. And she wasn't sure she ever truly could.
It is in those moments, after the lights go out and a painfully quiet drive home… that one realizes how much the little things can matter. No matter how small, just showing up, being there for moments even when nobody else is. It is those moments that make a person happy, that make a person feel truly loved. Words are all fine and dandy, but the way a heart swells when they see someone they love, someone there for them in their darkest moment, or simply being there to give a hug or a single flower… it means more than some people realize.
Now she sits, writing a stupid little story to try and express how she feels… to show just how much it hurts. But the words that fill up the pages that leave her mind and are written down… they only serve to make her heart hurt more. A constant reminder to her own mind of all the things that have gone wrong, of all the negative emotions, of all the hurt she once felt. But she still feels compelled to write. Because at the very least, she knows her words hold meaning and maybe that's all she wants… not just words, promises…
The words she writes promise to remind her. The words of others promise nothing; they are simply shells of the thing she craves. And leaving her too feeling just as empty. Until the moment pen hits paper, or fingers on the keyboard, she is empty… the words she writes no matter how tragic. They fill that emptiness somehow, and she is no happier than before… but her heart feels a little bit lighter anyways.
The love between the sun and the moon was forbidden, but no matter how taboo the attraction, it was inevitable. Ever since the first flame of the sun began to blaze, and the first bits of its light fell onto the shimmering surface of the moon, it was love. The moon, however, was forever stuck beside the Earth. Although she loved the Earth dearly, it was impossible to be free from the planet's strong hold. And so she was stuck for all of eternity, with a planet she had barely any romantic love for.
The sun attempted to aid the moon, sending asteroids many times to maybe loosen the hold the Earth had, but it did not budge. The sun had even attempted, albeit in not the smartest way, to destroy the planet itself. The sun knew its actions were not that of a worthy lover, but it had been millennia since he laid ‘eyes’ on the beauty that was the moon, and even longer since the warm light lit it up in the endless darkness that was the emptiness of space.
The futile attempts of both continued for billions of years, ending in failure each time. It was only when the Earth began to distance itself that the moon could feel its pull loosen. As time went on, the earth continued to distance itself, and the moon slowly made its way closer to the sun. The love would only continue to blossom between the celestial bodies. Although it would take millions of long years, the two lovers would soon reunite, in due time.
I cannot explain how I feel about her appearance, she is just one of the best-looking stars from the 90's in my opinion. Her beauty has faded a bit, but that is expected with age. She still looks fairly good for a 70-year-old woman. Not only was she insanely pretty in the past, but her music didn't want to make me die after listening to it. A lot of music back then just made my head hurt, unlike Cyndi's music. It is still loud, but not extremely so.
In conclusion, I love Cyndi Lauper, if you don't agree I could care less. :)
