One of my least favorite things about Breaking Dawn is that Bella’s pregnancy was from Jacob’s POV. I’ll start by saying that I do like the extra insight we got into the wolf pack, and Breaking Dawn is what made me really like Leah more. But also, we’ve been in Bella’s head for the entirety of the series, and the one thing we don’t really get to see her thoughts on is her pregnancy. Which in my opinion is one of the most important times to be in her head, especially since the pregnancy is actively killing her. And Jacob doesn’t have a dog in this fight aside from being in love with Bella. Why are we getting his thoughts on Bella having a baby? If we really weren’t going to get Bella’s POV for the pregnancy, then it should’ve been Edward’s POV. Because you know, he’s actually the baby’s father and Bella’s husband. Plus, we’d still get the cool wolf pack insights because of his gift, in addition to Jacob’s thoughts that we get from his POV. And we’d get to see Edward’s perspective of him being absolutely tortured by Bella’s pregnancy.

I’m always fascinated by how necessary the Volturi are to Twilight. Edward can’t tell Bella he’s a vampire because of the law of secrecy, so she has to figure it out herself. Rosalie and Jasper initially struggle with Edward’s relationship with Bella because it breaks the law. The fact that the law of secrecy will require Bella to give up all her human connections fuels a lot of Edward’s reluctance to turn her. And the fact that the law of secrecy exists also creates more pressure for Bella to be turned, especially once the Volturi know about her. In the second half of Breaking Dawn, a potential war with the Volturi is the actual conflict. Their existence drives so much of what happens in Twilight, to the point that Twilight would be a much different story if the Volturi didn’t exist.

I’m thinking about this more, and what is also equally important to Twilight is that Edward doesn’t particularly care about the law. He risked exposure by saving Bella from the van. He confirmed to Bella that he was a vampire. He then completely left her as a human knowing the secret, knowing that broke the law. Even after the Volturi find out about Bella, he’s very against her turning, knowing that it’s against the law and puts both of them at a massive risk. As much of Twilight’s plot is driven by the law, just as much of it is driven by Edward’s disregard of it.

I've never really thought about this but what I'm hearing is that Edward is a rebel with no respect for the government/royal family and a complete disregard for his own personal safety. Yeah, now it makes sense why I have such a thing for him.
