I almost can't directly think about how Ted went to England assuming his wife and son would eventually follow him and instead they divorced and that divorce happened while Ted was unknowingly fighting against the owner of the football club to actually make something of his life here, all while there is Zero Fucking Discussion about Henry going back to Kansas. Its just understood and obvious Ted isn't getting primary or equal custody.

All that, at the suggestion of the couple's therapist who winds up dating Michelle.

And despite all of that, Ted still manages to build a life, and then his mother shows up to tell him off for daring to better himself and drag him home.

Its just horrific.

Maybe it’s because most of the bargaining and acceptance happens off screen but I’ve always said that Ted’s season 3 arc felt like the calm before a storm. Specifically, the moment of peace a person feels when they’ve decided to take their life.
