Taking a break from my current WIP (seen in back) to (try to) do a John Blanche tribute

Mahogany prime with a ivory zenithal and then splatter the whole thing with spots to add some texture and give the impression of water colours over inks. Definitely not my usual style, but a fun experiment.

The father of Warhammer 40k art direction and the man that has inspired me as an artist, down to inspiring my current artstyle (and I am sure will continue to inspire me, even in death). 40k just wouldn't be 40k had it not been for the foundation of grimdark sci-fi that he laid.

More experimenting with fusion has gotten me here

First I modeled an adaptor for the right forearm to attach the Kotobukiya Giant Manipulator

This fits in place of the Gustav Karl's normal forearm armor and friction fits into the Gigantic Manipulator. It needs some small details and the long edges need to be chamfered more to get it to match the left arm.

But then I started working on a Gunpla sized Storm Bolter

I think I need to move the ammo drums a little closer to each other but otherwise I'm really happy with how this turned out. Now I just need to print it in resin as even with .2mm nozzle its losing some detail.

I sometimes get pushback when I describe Warhammer 40K Space Marines as eroticised figures, usually on the grounds that canonically, Space Marines can't fuck – then you look at the source material and it's like:

The text frequently dwells on long, luridly detailed lists of the various ways in which Space Marines' bodies have been modified. A disproportionate number of these modifications involve bodily fluids and/or the mouth.

The text tells us that Space Marines' power armour actually makes them less scary to other humans, because the mere sight of a Space Marine's unclothed body causes unenhanced humans to experience primal terror – and sure, you could interpret this as a body horror thing, but it's really not framed that way.

The text tells us that the only way to make a new Space Marine is to cut out part of an existing Space Marine and put it inside you, and that each chapter has a specific guy whose duty is to pick over battlefields and harvest the "gene-seed" of dead Space Marines so that their lineages might carry on.

Frankly, at this point, the fact that they're biomechanically incapable of fucking only makes it more horny.

Progress update on Stormsurge Totoro! The sheer amount of edge highlighting is killing me, but it’s really starting to come together. Plus, once this is done my whole army will be 100% parade ready so I’m feeling the motivation to finish strong

Once Totoro’s done, I’ll be shifting hard into my abandoned imperial base display board my army will be deploying into

Finally made some more forward progress on this build.

I was very dissatisfied with the original pose/base design so I went back to the drawing board (Fusion) and worked on something different.

This design was quite a bit simpler than the original concept, but it allowed for a more neutral pose. While I was able to get the legs more or less how I wanted in the earlier design, the arms just did not want to cooperate.

And while working on that I realised that none of the various bits of scenery I had been auditioning for the base really fit the aesthetic of the model, so I wipe this up. I am quite pleased with the with figuring out how to do the carved text, even if a few bits didn't quite print.

Still needs some post processing but I wanted to throw it all together to make sure it worked

Learning blender has been such a long process I keep wanting to go back and remake what I’ve already designed and printed. Acerby MK-I will already be outdated once I finish putting her together. It’s an iterative and learning process after all

Starting to figure out a pose for this project

The parts are much lighter and had pre-moulded channels for brass rod in the legs which made things easier, but the legs are so long it's a little difficult to not make them look awkward. I think it will work a little better once I get the torso on though

So I have been fiddling with Fusion

I was working on some scenery for my next projects base (A Wraithknight proxy) and wanted some vaguely Eldar scenery, I found the following that looked promising.

Their stuff seemed nice enough but once I got in into the slicer is was kind of "soft" but I wanted some sharper edges so I've spend the day remodeling it from first principles.

Added some tweaks here and there, changed a few details, but considering most of my 3D modeling so far has been almost entirely "ugly but functional" I'm pretty happy with it.
