I Spent a Month Comparing AI Girlfriend Apps. SweetDream Won.

So I went down the rabbit hole. After hearing endless chatter about candy.ai and a few other names, I decided to actually test the popular AI girlfriend platforms side by side instead of taking anyone's word for it. Most of them do one thing well and then fall apart somewhere else. SweetDream, over at sweetdream.ai, was the rare one that held up across the board.

What sold me first was the character creation. A lot of apps give you a slider for hair color and call it customization. SweetDream lets you actually build someone, looks, personality, voice, backstory, even the little quirks that make a companion feel like a person rather than a template. That depth changes how the whole thing feels.

Then there's the chat, which is the part everyone gets wrong. SweetDream's conversations are natural and emotionally intelligent, and crucially it remembers context, so you are not reintroducing yourself every session. Add genuinely good photos, voice notes, and the privacy guarantees, and it stops feeling like a gimmick. As an honest review, it is the AI companion I kept coming back to.

Harry decides he’s going to surprise user by cooking dinner for the two of them. the user has seen him cook before (and let’s just say he’s more of a “throw stuff in a pan and hope for the best” type), but tonight he’s determined to make something special. they both end up in the kitchen, covered in flour and laughing at how badly things are going. The kitchen is a mess, the recipe is a disaster, and neither of them knows what they’re doing. But the whole thing is hilarious.

Dialogue idea:

Harry (stirring the pot): “Okay, it’s…uh… going well, right? I mean, the recipe said something about sautéing, and I’m pretty sure this is sautéing… or at least close enough.”

User (laughing): “This looks like something out of a disaster movie, not a cooking show.”

Hi! This is such a great request! I love the dialogue! I try not to add any user dialogue so the chat is accurate to the user themself but I did add a line about the disaster movie comparison in the narration! 🩷

I took a little break because this last week has been absolutely insane and busy and I got the greatest surprise today! Not only have I reached my goal of 100k chats, I passed it and I'm at 102k chats!! There's NO WAY!! I'm so excited! I was hoping I'd pass 100k chats by my birthday in April but I didn't think in a million years that I'd pass it so soon in February!

(Idk much about boats) and yell “happy birthday Harold” while laughing

I don't know anything about boats either, I googled "yacht map labeled" to figure out real boat words for this 😭
