Underweight Sanji is always cold, right? And Zoro was a radiator BEFORE he got extra beefy, but now he’s a FURNACE. So Sanji often ends up cuddled up to Zoro during the little cat naps Sanji has started joining Zoro with while he recovers his strength and energy
(Plus the extra beef is a nice cushion on Sanji’s poor bones hehe)
And Zoro is being good! He’s not gonna make ANY moves on Sanji and he’s not gonna let ANYTHING maybe happen between them until Sanji is back on his feet. But he’s real bad at controlling his “in love with Sanji”-face and Zeff notices.
So every few hours Zeff goes to find Sanji to give him some nutrition, poor Zoro is always getting “caught” with Sanji wrapped around him like a limpet and is all ✋😳🤚 while Zeff glares at him as he gently wakes up his Eggplant for a smoothie or something
(Zoro thinks it very unfair no other StrawHat is treated so suspiciously even they also are lovingly cuddling Sanji all the time but don’t incur Zeff’s glare. Even when Luffy joins their cuddle time it’s still Zoro getting singled out!!)

Maybe after visiting the Baratie and during part of 30Sanji’s recovery Zeff hops aboard the Sunny to keep an eye on his Eggplant but also becomes the substitute cook during his stay bc like father like son Zeff doesn’t handle idleness very well. It’s nice to have a real cook again, and even tho his food isn’t SANJI’S, it’s near enough that it makes the SHs both nostalgic and fulfilled for Sanji’s food.
And I just like picturing Sanji and Zeff getting to be pirates on a crew together for a bit, but low stakes. Maybe Zeff being around as his taste tester and honest critic helps him get back into cooking a bit. And they run into the older Gen of pirates that the crew knows and turns out also knows Zeff. Maybe oops pirates like Shanks and Mihawk and Rayleigh have been visiting the Baratie for ages but they all didn’t know about all the connections to the SHs bc know one in the OP universe talks about their families or their past lol

ok so the rough outline is this :
years after luffy achieved his dream, the crew keeps navigating the seas, going after any strawhats' dreams that havn't been achieved yet (most of them lol). Among them, of course, the All Blue.
On some random island, sanji gets sick - nothing serious, but he does lose his taste during the worst of the symptoms. When he gets better, his taste doesn't come back.
Its the start of a downward spiral - his dream gets more or less flushed down the toilet (what use finding the all blue if he cant figure out how to cook the things he finds there), and he cant be a good cook to the crew and thus his place on the sunny is compromised*
*in his distorted and depressed pov
He starts self medicating, first with alcohol, then with the pink pills (they need a name lmao). The crew quickly picks on, but when try to intervene sanji just fucks off and lays low for months, spending most of his time doing odd jobs to get enough money to feed his addictions.
On their side, the crew, who cannot put their hand on that slippery motherfucker, find a devil fruit user who "brings people home". it does not work as expected.
an ocean away sanji gets yeeted into the past. He makes a first stop onto the baratie when he was like. 14, and then gets yanked forward in time to the merry.
The crew (baby version) has just left the Davy Back Fight, narrowly escaped Aokiji, and is on its way to Water Seven.
Shenanigans happen, mainly centred around 19sanji not accepting that this fucked up guy is his future self, Robin and 30sanji understanding each other a little too well for the archeologue's comfort, and chopper being very very confused and worried about 30sanji.
During his time on the merry, and after a while of being a withdrawn, anti-social mess, 30sanji starts to relearn how to act like a human and starts taking the first steps towards recovery - its easier without the baggage. He tries getting clean, but the withdrawals are too fucking horrible. He is, however, running low on his pills.
At the same time in the future (🤔) the crew (adult version) finds a way to catch up to where sanji has been sent. So luffy, usopp and zoro find themselves on the merry (!!) The joy of 1.finding their cook and 2.omg the merry :DDD gets shadowed very quickly by the state of said cook.
Thats when the last comic happen :)))
and they they go back to their time and everything is fine :)))
As for the pills - they're mostly based on heroin, effects-wise, but i'm taking some liberties. they're pink bc i wanted a color i never use and would be rly out of place, and im pretty happy it gets me out of my comfort zone color wise :)
