guess what time it is
it’s the time you wear white face paint and your man shows up the next day with white face paint in his hair
“Either you sign for five albums, or you’re out.”
This is just another proof of how things work at the X Factor, not directly related to One Direction. It’s a rough summary of this article about a boy band from the Italian X Factor, Jarvis. The article is titled: “XFactor, Jarvis’ version: either you sign for five albums, or you’re out.”
Jarvis is a boy band that made it Bootcamp, and then the production declared that they had pulled out of the talent show for ‘personal reasons’. Well, not really. Their manager spilt the tea to this journalist: first off, their participation to the program wasn’t spontaneous. Someone from the XFactor had approached during a music event and they had taken the chance.
Here’s what happens next:
they sign a contract, but then the production requires them to sign another one for the bootcamp; and, in case they make it to the live shows, another one with Freemantle, the production company that manages XFactor in Italy, or they would automatically be excluded from the tv show.
Jarvis fly out to Barcelona, where they pass the next round.
Sony summon the band members to have them sign an all-encompassing contract that includes the tv production part of it, including doctor’s records, but also a recording contract.
The recording contract includes five albums plus one (5+1), 12/18 months each one, that could bind them to Sony for almost 10 years.
The band members are separated, and forced to sign a 100 page contract, without the possibility to read it or ask advice to family members, friends, manager, etc., with only one lawyer provided by the production.
The contract includes, among others, a contract with Sony management and Sony publishing.
By now, all the XFactor participants are under NDA, so are Jarvis. They don’t accept, even though they receive cease and desist orders and knowing that they will have to abandon the XFactor. But the production has already fucked up, uploading the Wiki ‘live shows’ page with their name instead of one of the other bands, letting people know that they had passed the bootcamp, so the production cannot edit the tv show to make it look like they had been voted out.
(It’s something the production had already done this year, to one of the other participants at the auditions; they had intentionally ridiculed him, editing the episode to make it look like his audition had sucked royally when, actually, people and judges alike had loved him, but he managed to prove it because in two different shots one of the judges, Arisa, was dressed differently. They had added the judge’s negative reactions to someone else to his audition.)
So, they are forced to say, at the end of the episode, that Jarvis left the XFactor for ‘personal reasons’. No, they didn’t.
TL;DR: XFactor sucks internationally.
One of the judges at the X Factor Italia spoke out about it to justify these types of contracts, and as a 1D fan I want to scream:
Translation: “[…] It’s the same contract that, since The X Factor was born, all the artists signed, including One Direction […].”
This part is especially interesting as some of us have speculated if the contract was signed in November 2010:
Sony summon the band members to have them sign an all-encompassing contract that includes the tv production part of it, including doctor’s records, but also a recording contract.
On 1 November 2010, it was reported One Direction had gone to the Sony offices in London recently.
Then, a month later on 30 November 2010:
Hannah was asked the night of the final live show if they boys had already signed a record deal as was rumored in the press:
“@LucyRoseBarrett Not true… What’d be the point in showing up tonight if they already had a contract! Xxx” - Hannah Walker, 12 December 2010
That was likely not true, though, because the next morning, there were reports they’d already signed a deal on 13 December 2010. They moved out of the X Factor house on the 13th, as well. Furthermore, it was rumored Liam was already in the studio recording that same day with Steve Mac.
That same night, Hannah and Jay tweet multiple fans saying Louis was never coming home and lived in London now, meaning he likely didn’t sign a record deal, move out of the X Factor house, move into a new place and go to the crew and contestants only afterparty all on the same day.
Jay tweets “@1Dcollectivex he isn’t coming back hun! He lives in London now xx”
So it’s likely the deal was signed in November. That’s why they release the albums in November. It was the soonest they could contractually release them. They didn’t want to wait any longer than they had to to push the material out to a traditionally fickle boyband fan base.
The 12 month period ending the Made in the A.M. release period is 12 November 2016. Assuming the 12/18 month release schedule clause holds here (and it appears to so far), the “+1″ could be released anytime 13 November 2016 to 13 June 2017.
Other dates to keep in mind in this context:
17 October 2013 - In an Australian interview, Zayn and Louis were asked what “the plan” was that their management said everyone agreed to for the next “18 months to 2 years,” meaning June-December 2015. Zayn famously said “Management has been telling porky pies,” meaning lying, because there was no renegotiation regarding number of albums (perhaps other terms but not the schedule itself) because it had been agreed to in 2010.
More importantly, Louis says “did-did we…yeah! We signed the new deal, yeah!” In a way that was meant to look like “oh yeah! I guess we did sign that new deal, then!” But there was no new deal. It was agreed to in 2010.
20 October 2015 - The weirdly cancelled show that not many of believe was due to explosive diarrhea. Perhaps it was decided/announced there would be a +1 released in 2016, making this whole year a weird alternate timeline that was never supposed to happen (let me believe this).
20 October 2015 - Also the same day the RBB countdown began with 5. At the time, we speculated it was counting down to a day, then maybe it was related to months and March 2016 might mean something.
But in this context, it could also mean fiscal quarters. I’ve been obsessed with the fiscal quarter pattern lately, so forgive me if I’m getting into the weeds (I am known to do that lol). But October 2015 was the start of the 4Q of 2015. Maybe it was related to 5 fiscal quarters, or 15 months, until freedom. This might also be linked to the 18 months-2 years timeline one or more of the boys said during promo regarding the length of the break. 3-6 months after their contract with Syco expires, they could be back. Only time will tell if that makes a modicum of sense, so moving on.
“Spring 2017″ - Niall has said he would tour in Spring 2017 with his new, not yet recorded?, album.
21 July 2017 - Dunkirk release date is 1 month after the end of the 18 month period ending the Made in the A.M. release. Remember how it was Dan (aka Simon’s dipshit pun-loving minion) who stole Harry’s thunder and announced he was shopping movie roles? He needed permission to do that, which is how Dan got the “scoop” Harry was doing it. The movie coming out after this +1 release means Harry may not be as contractually bound to Syco in promotion schedule, etc.
So basically…
In conclusion, it seems entirely possible we’re all waiting (including the boys) on that +1 release in the next 6.5 months. Until then, enjoy the shit show, because it won’t end any time before that.
Seven Wonders of the World:
1. Harry’s two extra nip noops 2. Harry’s tiny ears 3. Harry’s two front teeth 4. The way Louis says running water 5. Louis’ collarbones 6. Louis’ wrists 7. Louis and Harry’s tiny tummies 8. The way their faces scrunch when they look at each other 9. Harry’s hands 10. Louis’ ankles 11. The way Louis’ giant heart somehow manages to fit in such a tiny body 12. Harry’s laugh 13. Harry’s kindness 14. Louis’ crinkles by his eyes when he smiles 15. The way harry says “excuse me liam” 16. The way this list was supposed to stop at seven rip

But how was this allowed?
Celebrities go through LAX every day. You rarely see A List celebrities walking through terminals because shit would hit the fan. Airports are extremely cautious of safety, and if there’s a possibility of anything out of the ordinary happening, they will make it so that it won’t happen.
My friend group of paps get “flights” on celebs all the time. Basically we go and wait for them to show up for their flight.Often times we find that they were taken to the platform to board, assumedly before everyone else, especially when they know people are there waiting for them and it could become a security issue.
Because of this, I could only assume that they were told to walk through the terminal. Not only could it have become a security problem, but I’m suspicious as to why, knowing that paps and hundreds of fans were right outside, the two were allowed to walk through a public terminal with little security.
It’s all really suspicious to me, and honestly there’s no other answer other than they were told to do that specifically, probably by their management team, for pure publicity. They knew something like this would cause us, the fans, to explode on social media, and that’s what it did.
