the end of this episode was so perfectly heartbreaking. suvi knowing that silver doesn't understand and that by telling him the truth she's cut herself off from a future she desperately wanted. so she finds the oldest comfort she still has. her true friends, asleep together in the stable. not wanting to bother them, knowing she can handle her sadness on her own, but ame waking and immediately understanding and offering love and warmth. eursulon's cloak over them both. here and in the citadel and on the boat and in the cottage, always in a pile of limbs. no bad dreams while we're here. i did cry

forgive me this is kind of parasocial but i'm just having so many emotions now that i'm getting into worlds beyond number after watching mismag2. because 'family on six' didn't happen for evan kelmp in the years between season 1 and season 2, but it DID happen for brennan and lou and aabria and erika! the first mismag is how the four of them became a group and created WBN, and they've been doing it ever since. listening to WBN you can tell that aabria is not exaggerating when she says they're her favorite people in the world. and mismag2 is this total full-circle moment because in-game, evan's dearest wish is literally just to be able see his friends on a regular basis for the rest of their lives, which is also exactly how brennan describes why they wanted to do WBN. and in the end, they get to reward evan with the very thing that HE gave to THEM which is lifelong friendship and community 🥹

Look, this post has been wildly more popular than I thought it deserved, apparently at least in part because "don't burden others; be independent" is far more ingrained in people than I realized. So here's the thing: society works when people help each other. Helping others gives people a chance to know each other, and gives them an investment in the people they help. Helping creates bonds. People enjoy helping, and you are doing a good by letting them help you if they so wish.

Offer help; accept help. You will be a part of creating a helping culture. Which, incidentally, weakens capitalism and the fractionation between people that benefits those who would use us.

whenever ame and suvi butt heads i'm like wow! what an interesting bit of personal incompatibility where no one is entirely right or entirely wrong! and i go in the tags expecting actual discussion instead of boring black and white side-taking, like an idiot

Yes! The Worlds Beyond Number cast keeps serving up interesting, complex relationships between characters, every relationship and character having their own strengths and flaws and blind spots and values. The perfect stage for discourse about friendship and culture and boundaries and power and change.

Truly crazy to watch people pop off on Silver and Sworn for having Suvi’s back and letting Ame know that despite her intentions, her actions were out of place and unhelpful.

Silver and Sworn, the ones that were *actually* by her side when she was on her way to the horses to make sure no one starved, because Eursulon outright refused to help (and spoke of not wanting to be there at all) and Ame was bopping from fraught conversation to fraught conversation.

Silver, the one who understood that what Suvi actually needed when they were finally alone was to put down the devastating burden of trying to keep three dozen people alive behind enemy lines for a night and rest.

Sworn, the one that volunteered to handle the horse problem since he saw how much it gutted her to resort to it.

Feel however you want to feel about their phrasing or tone, but neither was wrong for taking Ame to the side and speaking with her on points Suvi’s also made to her in the past. It is neither empathetic nor community-serving to repeatedly refuse to adapt to a different culture’s way of doing things.

Truth is, Sworn and Silver are the ones being a good friend to Suvi right now, and if you can’t see that it’s because your Citadel-blinders make you instantly dismissive of anything Suvi wants or needs that diverges from Ame and Eursulon’s preferences. And that sucks to see. Again.

No actually I’m putting this in the replies bc it needs to be said: this perfectly encapsulates the feelings I’ve been having about the reception of Ame and K as I’ve been watching mismag 2 and listening to wbn at the same time.

In no way is this a criticism of them, I love both characters, but YOU GUYS. Am I the only one that’s noticed way people have bent over backwards to excuse Ame’s brand of chaos and impulse and think it’s so cute despite the very real negative effects it has on Suvi to the point where people will pop off if she’s corrected while ALSO completely writing off K as a character bc of their brand of chaos and impulse bc of the effects it has on Evan and cheering when she’s corrected?

At this point, I’m just beginning to wonder if it’s less about Ame OR K and more about the characters they’re causing whatever kind of harm to.

100%! There’s a reason systems and structures are put into place. There are different situations and circumstances that require different amounts of structure and rigidity when it comes to chain of command. Traveling in hostile territory with 30 soldiers and limited resources? Really good place to stick to chain of command!

Also, they weren’t even saying “shut up and sit down, this isn’t your place to make suggestions,” or anything like that. They basically said, “let’s make sure communication to the group is streamlined and cohesive by you communicating your suggestions and advice to Suvi and letting her make informed choices about what commands to give.”

I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.

Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.

So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.
