Brennan: I really don't want this to be XL-ZL saying something, I really want this to be about giving Z time to talk
Brennan 15 seconds later: I share the fear that I will not be given the opportunity to show the merit of my own soul.

None of the archdevils really know what's in their contracts, these days. Mostly they farm the nitty gritty of the negotiations out to one of a half dozen or so infernal law firms.

My 5e True Name Rules, For Whoever Needs Them
What Can You Do With a True Name?
When you cast a spell which targets a single creature whose true name you know, you may choose to invoke that creature's true name by verbally speaking it as part of the incantation if the spell has a verbal component, or by thinking the name if it does not. If you invoke the creature's true name, the creature automatically fails any saving throws associated with your spell.
Additionally, if a creature whose true name you know casts a spell which targets only you, you may choose to invoke the true name by speaking it aloud as part of a magical incantation. If you do, you automatically succeed any saving throws associated with the spell.
Lastly, you may invoke a creature's true name to end any spell that targets only that creature (can't be done on yourself) (unless the DM thinks it's cool).
Depending on how your combat looks, it can be a good idea to declare that invoking these names requires some particular magical talent, and impose a limit on how often it can be done - it kind of depends on whether you're running really fast, plot-driven combats, or your combats usually involve the players dumping most of their arsenal - it's a game balance judgement call. In general though it's nice to have it feel heavy, when the names come out.
Who Has a True Name?
An individual's true name is the name to which they are most connected. This could be a name that they personally identify with, or it could just be the name that represents them the best (I run this as largely a case-by-case decision at the table). For most mortals, their true names are just their given names. In places where casters are common enough that this puts people whose names aren't hidden in real danger, parents will often give their children two names - one true name, and one name for public use.
It is possible for an individual to be unaware of their own true name - this is most commonly the case when the individual is separated from their parents before learning their given name, and when the individual is suffering some form of mundane or magical amnesia.
It is possible for true names to change, depending on the individual's nature - a person's connection to a name is ultimately what drives the magical power of the name itself.
Examples of True Names
A God's first name, given to it by its first worshippers. Must be found in some ancient ruins, or learned from the last of those worshippers that is still alive.
A mournful spirit of a mountain was once lovers with a spirit of the sea. The mountain spirit's true name is the epithet which the sea spirit called them.
Plot Beats with True Names
Two contenders for the throne of a kingdom are siblings, and know each other's true names. This provides a sort of mutually assured destruction, and leads to incredible degrees of paranoia.
An organization demands that individuals divulge their true name before being allowed to join. This could be the bodyguards of an important ruler, a cult of personality, or some other high-control group.
A powerful wizard has imprisoned their parents, because the parents are the only other ones who know their true name.
A shadowy guild collects true names of spirits and important mortals, and keeps them in a heavily guarded library. They'll sell them, at a high price.
The more evil Brennan Lee Mulligan makes Steel the hotter I find her btw.
I can't decide if I think it's more likely that the citadel will roughly get what they want and then come into consequences because of more conflict-driven reasons where they get fucked up by the MiB et al, or that they'll just fuck up some incredibly powerful ritual and make a big magic stinky all over the desert.
Like, are they going to complete the project and then have it go sideways, or will it arrive sooner than that? Depends how the gang plays it, but I'm really interested to see. There's sort of a dual lesson to be learned for people who walk in the shoes of the citadel - not only is it unlikely to go well if you get the control you want, it's also just really likely that you're not that guy, and you can't maintain the control anyway.
Anyway I hope they choose well because whatever happens the lesson is going to be written into my moral character for the rest of my life haha
suvirin kedberiket, the wizard sky, you are the most character of all time.
Sorry yall it would just to be too perfect if Suvi learned that even her parents were in on this stuff
It would just really cement the whole "you must choose to stray from the path of your people" vibe that Suvi has going on.
I'm pretty sure it's going to happen. I don't know why Steel wouldn't lead with it, but I don't trust this "Brennan" guy one bit.
What can I even say about this EPISODE. Making something eternal from something finite, stealing divinity from the Divine, building a GOD. It's apotheosis in a way that is *so* arrogant and *so* sinister.
And *so* fucking badass 😎
I made a model of the cottage of the witch of the worlds heart!!!
Suvi... What do you do?
