I am an amateur at learning about conservation and would love to engage with other beginners and people with experience. I have been looking for volunteering opportunities around my area as I become aware of them. I am open to all advice!

In case I'm not the last to know, they figured out the source of the cyclospora outbreak:

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention late Thursday warned consumers not to eat shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. A record number of cyclospora cases have been reported in more than 30 states, and experts have said not every recent U.S. illness might be caused by a single source.

A Food and Drug Administration investigation identified a single supplier of the lettuce. The federal warnings to consumers did not identify the company, but a federal official who was briefed on the investigation and not authorized to discuss it told The Associated Press it was Taylor Farms of Salinas, California.

Taylor Farms, which has been tied to foodborne outbreaks in the past, did not immediately respond to a request for comment."

People die on the job every summer. Remember that water and shade breaks are crucial when working in the heat, and calling emergency services for signs of serious heat illness (fatigue, nausea/vomiting, headaches, dizziness, clammy skin, confusion, agitation, slurred speech, high body temperature, rapid heart rate, etc.) is entirely appropriate. If you’re afraid to call 911 for reasons such as being undocumented, you’ll need to get very familiar with how to prevent, recognize, and treat heat illness. If you are symptomatic and not allowed a break, water, or medical treatment, walk out. No matter how broke you are, your job is not worth your life.

As someone who has worked in workers' compensation for the better part of a decade

You can die from overworking yourself.

This is especially common during the summer and nighttime shifts. You do NOT want to know the wide range of injuries I've seen. But you need to be careful and prioritize yourself and your own health always.

Firefighter here, and seconded. Also, if your coworker/boss/foreman/CEO/whatever tells you to perform a task that you are not qualified to do or that makes you feel unsafe in any way, do not do it! So many calls where people have limbs under heavy machinery or building materials and they always were going against safety procedure cause someone "told me to do it." If you start feeling ill on the job, please do your best to find someplace cool. And there is no trade job in the US where they can prevent you from drinking water throughout your shift.

If your leadership is refusing to let you get somewhere cool when you're feeling the symptoms of overheating, call 911 and get an ambulance to come check you out -- they all have AC, will be more than happy to take your vitals, and will not charge you for the care you receive unless you're taken to the hospital and they can't demand to see ID. The first responders can also vouch for you to your boss, and it really looks bad for your company to have ambulances show up because they didn't let employees have sufficient breaks.

I keep seeing people say to plant bamboo around data centers and I cannot stress enough how much you should not do that.

Bamboo grows insanely fast, it’s hard to cut down and could be detrimental to the surrounding environment.

Do not plant anything if you don’t understand what it is and what it could do.
