i think i got a bit weird about weaving

#jeremy weaves for all progress photos and loom talk and stuff.

#finished projects for my work with just 1 post per item, no repeated reblogs.

#weaving video self explanatory. My videos only have loom noises not background music, other people's videos vary.

Getting started? Low budget & low space weaving and #weaving resources more generally.

I have sold a few handwovens on tumblr and might do so again, if I'm not building up stock for a potential in-person stall. Anything currently available will be listed here. I may be open to custom commissions; price to be agreed before I accept your commission, but consider a very rough ballpark of £400 for a woolen adult scarf, cotton baby blanket, or set of tea towels.

mold pisses me off so much

I ran into this post years ago and to be honest, it has completely reoriented the way I engage with food.

Like. I’ve always sorta understood that things grow moldy or stale or sour or such if left out, but I never really internalized it in a meaningful way.

But now I’m just like.

Yeah. The hungering dust. There exists omnivorous dust in the air that will eat my food if I don’t.

Those bagels have been sitting there for a week. Are we going to eat them soon or are we leaving them for the hungering dust?

Pizza’s been sitting out on the counter for an hour. Everyone’s enjoying the pizza, but if we don’t want “everyone” to include the hungering dust then we should probably put it away soon.

That’s just. That’s how food works to me now. There exists an invisible predator in the air that hungers for your yummies, and it will not hesitate to eat your food if you don’t make the effort to protect and preserve it. And eat what can’t be preserved before the dust can.

Life-changing.

The tea towels that have been ON THE LOOM for the past SIX MONTHS are now OFF THE LOOM and I have ONE MORE TO HEM and then they are NOT DONE BUT AT LEAST STABILISED

Hems for chunky waffle weave towels: cut, apply dissolvable tape (more secure than pins or clips), fold, tape again, fold again, wrangle under the walking foot (it just barely fits, and doesn't fit at the beginning of the hem), sew to end, turn, sew to beginning where it didn't fit in the first direction. These are the messiest hems in the world and you can see every bit because I couldn't be arsed to change the black bobbin but soon they will be DONE.

At the moment I hate them but it's probably, hopefully, mostly resentment for how stalled I've been on weaving while they were on the loom. Tension for such a big waffle weave was bad and the colours weren't what I'd hoped and so I avoided them, a lot. After they're hemmed they will need repairs for lots of skipped threads related to the tension trouble. And then they can be washed and then they will be OVER.

There are four towels. It was not worth it a learning experience.

I finished this blanket of my late cat. She passed away a few months ago. It was quite suddenly and during a really bad time for my family so I couldn't mourn her properly. This is my tribute to her for all the love she gave us.

Finished my pride project…

TRANSSOCKS

The ribbing and upper rows are a bit wonky because I was just guessing and checking with the increases. I’ve never done socks this tall, and I’m SUPER happy with them (also happy to be done lol).

I messed around a lot with the stitch count to make them fit, but they’re adapted from Single Stitch Knit’s Basic Knee High Toe Up Sock.

one of my kids broke his leg so his favorite recess activity now that kicking balls over the fence is off the table has been hangman, except we call it frankenstein because my teacher doesnt like calling it hangman, and its all good until he wants to take over and be the frankmaster, because a game of frankenstein (hangman) run by a kindergartner who cant spell and doesnt know all his letters is a crapshoot, except for the fact that every single time without fail his phrase is "dog eats," but he doesnt know how to spell "eats" so that part is different every time, but if he realizes youve caught on that the phrase is Dog Eats theres a 50% chance he will start improvising, and its in gods hands from there on out
