From my series Things From Me, For Me: a manifestation and lucky charm board featuring affirmations that I repeat to myself every day. It is the first thing I see in the morning. Some of the four-leaf clovers come from a collection gathered and preserved by my father, who found and picked them himself. At the top, the chakra points of the body can be seen after the meditative speaking of the affirmations — calm, balanced, and in complete harmony.

Upon the rooftops of the city, I kept kicking two stones, over and over, until they wore themselves down and took the shape of a shark’s tooth—Somewhere far away, Lil Uzi’s Money Longer was playing, faint but insistent.

my thoughts louder than the city’s noise —

weary, shattered, at the edge.

And still, even then,

I could glimpse what truly mattered:

hope never ceased to show me

the hidden beauty of life.

A hummingbird in the heart of the city—

it found me,

the bloom worth drinking from.
