It was clear that track of time was something hard to keep track of now, all she knew was it was sometime late in the afternoon. It wasn’t wise for Ellie to be out so late, and of course she’s heard the cliche, "You’re so young, you don’t need to be out here alone!" People failed to realize that she was born into this world, born into this outbreak. Literally everything around her was all she knew, at a young age she was taught how to survive, how to defend yourself. Age didn’t matter anymore in this world, what mattered was surviving. She lived, if you could consider it living, within the Boston QZ Zone. Often Ellie would sneak out to explore or gather food and supplies. The military fed the people within in the zone, though with food scarce and so many people, it was hard. She also wasn’t about to attend military school to be forced to becoming a solider. Long story short, fuck the QZ Zone and fend for yourself.
She had found an old grocery store along the downtown region of Boston. She was far off from the QZ Zone so no worry of soldiers lurking around bothered her. The fact that infected and hunters now were the problem also didn’t bother her. With a handgun stashed away behind her and a switchblade in her pocket, she was well set. Also skilled with a rifle and a bow, those two items were left back at the zone — couldn’t carry it all. The old grocery store had been boarded up clearly awhile back. She often found buildings like this, probably just another way for the military to control everything. It took a moment but through a back alley she found an old door she managed to pop open using a her blade. Small inside, she scouted the place for any infected and found nothing, always a good sign. To her surprise there was several different canned goofs littering the aisles, so that’s why the military boarded it up. Again, the military just had to control everything.
The place was clearly dusty and the walls were rotting, other forms of food well rotted. Canned goods were still good though! She hoped, she would risk it though, she was starving. Quickly she began filling her backpack up with what she could, though of course she didn’t want to slow herself down either. This would be a little secret spot, if it’s been abandoned like this for years she was for sure it would stay that way. She was smiling to herself as she picked up the last canned food items, it wasn’t until she heard some type of shuffling noise. Either someone had followed her, or there was at least one form of infected lingering. Crouching down quickly she reached for her gun behind her, just in case. She stayed there for a moment, listening closely to the footsteps. Infected had distinct footsteps, it didn’t sound like an infected tough, strange.
