I Can Be Your Hero Chapter 7

Club Gravity was packed by the time YN, Hwasa, and Amber arrived. Per usual, Hwasa had taken longer to get ready, claiming she wanted to look perfect tonight although YN thought Hwasa did not have to put much effort to look beautiful. YN and Amber had taken less time to get ready, the former more focused on getting to the club to destress and the latter just there for the ride. YN had chosen a simple black dress from her closet. It hugged her curves and made her look nice without having to put much effort into her look. Amberâs look was simple, a black turtleneck with black slacks and still she looked stunning. So, by the time Hwasa had finished getting ready, donning a beautiful, backless, red dress and wearing her hair in an elaborate hairstyle that YN had seen her wear one of her photoshoots, they had gotten to the club an hour later than they originally planned.Â
It was girlâs night, so the bouncer let them in after checking their IDâs. YN quickly spotted a familiar face at the bar and she ushered her friends over there, excited to see one of her newly made friends.Â
âHey ladies,â Minhyuk chirped. The black-haired man beamed as YN and her friends slid into the bar stools. YN greeted him with a fond smile. They had only met a couple times before, but she had developed a soft spot for the loveable club owner. He always exuded an energizing aura, and YN could use it after the stressful week she had.
âHey Minhyuk,â YN answered. âI heard youâre giving free drinks to pretty ladies tonight.â Â
Minhyuk laughed. âDrinks are half off tonight for women, but Iâll give you your first drink free. You look like you need it. What can I get you ladies?â
âIâll have a Long Island,â Hwasa said.
âIâll have a Manhattan, please,â said Amber.
Finally, YN ordered a mojito. She wanted to order shots of tequila as it was her go to when she was frustrated, but she decided to wait. The night was young and it would not be good for her to get drunk right away even with how much she needed the drinks.
Minhyuk winked as he finished writing their orders and excused himself to make their drinks. They chatted amongst themselves as they waited for their drinks to be made, YN noting that Hyungwon had yet to set up his DJ station. The music in the club was currently provided by a live band. There were five men, all playing instruments and singing. The girls in the club seemed to enjoy them, especially since they were all good looking. However, YN couldnât deny that they had a great sound. She turned to Hwasa to ask if she knew the name of the band as Minhyuk came back with their drinks.
âHere you go ladies. I hope this is just what you need.â He winked again.
YN thanked Minhyuk and took her drink. She took a long sip of her cocktail, but didnât finish it right away to make sure she didnât get drunk right away. Minhyuk looked like he wanted to say something to them, but was interrupted by two college aged girls who came to the bar needing drinks. Minhyuk gave YN a âIâll talk to you laterâ look and then went to attend to the two waiting customers. The band had finished playing and were leaving the stage. YN noticed Hyungwon setting up at his DJ station. She elbowed Hwasa who was busy talking to Amber and nudged her head toward Hyungwonâs direction. Hwasa and YN had met Hyungwon and the rest of Jooheon and Hyunwooâs friends, and out of all of them Hwasa had gotten along with Hyungwon the fastest. They both radiated beauty and had unapproachable demeanors. When they met, they both understood each other without words being exchanged and a mutual respect had formed. Since their meeting, Hwasa had raved about Hyungwonâs music and YN was one to agree. Hyungwon had proven himself to be an amazing DJ the first time they had gone to Club Gravity. YN had been to many clubs with good DJs, but Hyungwonâs mixes had YN wanting to come back for more.
Hwasa yelled Hyungwonâs name, but it was drowned over the music. She tried again louder this time and by some miracle, Hyungwon lifted his head from his jockey and looked for the person who had called his name. Hwasa waved her hand in the air to get his attention, an action YN joined after Hwasa elbowed her. Hyungwonâs eyes scanned the area and finally settled to where the three were nestled near the bar. He gave them a quick smile and waved before returning to his music. The familiar sound of Wild Thoughts by DJ Khaled and Rihanna filled the club and left YN with an urge to dance. She finished her drink with an urgency to get on the dance floor. However, before she could ask Hwasa and Amber if they wanted to dance, two familiar figures materialized from the crowd and came toward the bar. It was Hoseok and Changkyun, Jooheonâs roommate. Hwasa and YN had met them before, the night they had met the others, so they waved their hands in greeting.
Hoseok looked surprised to see them, but he quickly recovered and greeted the three with a warm smile. Beside him, Changkyun raised his hand in a greeting.
âHey,â Hoseok started, âWe didnât expect to see you here.â He gave them another smile and YN could not help notice how good he looked tonight. He was wearing a tightfitting button up with the first two buttons unbuttoned and black pants. From the only other time they had met, YN knew Hoseok was a very sweet guy, but with a flirty exterior. He wasnât over confident, but he knew when he looked good and was comfortable with it. YN wasnât the only one who had found him attractive at first glance, Hwasa had commented on how he was attractive despite not liking men. âI may be gay but I have eyes YN,â she had laughed when YN had looked at her in confusion. Even Amber now seemed to notice how beautiful the man in front of her was. She smiled at him and Changkyun shyly, looking at YN to introduce him.
âWe needed a little pick me up so we came to the best club in town,â YN replied matching his smile. âItâs nice to see you two again. You know Hwasa, right? This is our other friend, Amber. Amber this is Hoseok and Changkyun, theyâre friends of Jooheon and Hyunwoo.â Amber smiled when they were introduced and the two men greeted her warmly.
âItâs nice to meet you,â Changkyun said. âWe also came for similar reasons.â Changkyun was Jooheonâs roommate, and YN had interacted with him the most out of all Jooheon and Hyunwooâs friends. After their menudo run the week before, they had developed an instant camaraderie. Jooheon had mentioned how Changkyun was interested in the same nerdy things that YN was. They spent a few hours talking about DnD and classic horror movies before exchanging numbers. Changkyun had also taken an interest into Latino food after eating menudo for the first time. YN had expected him to be a little turned off at the idea of eating tripe, but he was very receptive to the idea of trying new foods. He enjoyed the menudo to YNâs surprise. YN excitedly told him about all the Latino food he had to try, and they had agreed to have YN introduce Changkyun to other Latino food. He also looked nice tonight, YN noted. It was not in the same way as Hoseok. Changkyunâs style was more casual, donning a stripped turtleneck and skinny jeans. He also wore circle framed glasses which YN thought looked very attractive on him.
âItâs nice to meet you too,â Amber stated, smiling coolly at the two men.
âDo you mind if we join you?â Hoseok asked, his question seemingly directed to all of them but he was looking at YN.
YN nodded. âItâs cool, the more the merrier.â
Hoseok slid into the bar stool next to YN with Changkyun at his side. Minhyuk reappeared at the bar, smiling brightly at his two friends and already holding two drinks in his hand. He placed them next to Hoseok and Changkyun before pulling them into a brief hug.
âHey guys, glad you made it tonight.â Minhyuk looked at YN and her friends with a soft smile. âNeed another drink ladies?â The three had finished their cocktails, and YN hadnât realized she had been eyeing her empty drink with anticipation for more. Hwasa laughed, handing her empty glass to Minhyuk.
âWe could use another drink, I know YN would definitely appreciate it,â she mused. YN nodded more than enthusiastically, remembering the reason she came to the club in the first place. It was easy to forget her problems when she was surrounded by good music and company, but another drink was greatly appreciated. To Hwasaâs side, Amber let out a chuckle at YNâs antics, and then proceed to also hand her glass to Minhyuk.
âWhatâll it be?â Minhyuk inquired. They ordered their drinks, YN and Hwasa settling for a couple shots each and Amber with another cocktail. YN reached into her purse to pay for their drinks, it only felt fair since she was the one who needed the pick me up, when Hoseok stopped her and reached for his wallet. Before YN could finish protesting, he had handed the card to Minhyuk and the bartender scurried away in case YN tried to reach for the card. YN gave Hoseok a pointed look, but he just smiled back at her and waved it off.
âMy treat,â Hoseok said with a wink, âcouldnât help but treat such pretty ladies.â Besides him Changkyun let out a snort.
When YN tried to argue, Changkyun replied,â Best not to argue with hyung, let him have it.â
So YN conceded but not before crossing her arms and offering to pay for the next round of drinks. Minhyuk arrived with their alcohol and the five proposed a toast before taking a sip of their respective drinks. Conversation started amongst them with Minhyuk joining them in between making drinks. Somehow, YN had ended up between Changkyun and Hoseok. Hoseok was conversing with Hwasa and Amber, and from Hwasaâs animated expression, YN guessed the conversation had something do with modeling. Changkyun and her had gotten into a conversation about superheroes after the TV screen had played a news clip of Ringleader and Golden Arrow stopping a bank robbery.
âSo,â Changkyun had started, âYou wrote the article about Golden Arrow, right?â
YN had nodded. The article had been published about a week ago and it had become her most read article. The people of Moonlight City loved to talk about their superheroes and were always looking for articles analyzing their superheroes for them. She had spent a good two weeks before the article had been published analyzing Golden Arrowâs superhero style and taking in his strengths and weaknesses. He wasnât a bad superhero as YN had stated in her article, he just needed more practice.
âWhat do you think now that Ringleader and him are partners? Iâm assuming you have thoughts on their teamwork.â
YN chuckled. âIâm actually working on another article about exactly that.â
Changkyun raised an eyebrow with interest. âOh, Iâm actually really curious if youâre fine sharing.â
âWellâŠ,â YN began,â I think their chemistry is off. They are both good superheroes in their own right â my article about Golden Arrow notwithstanding â but theyâre not in sync. I think they lack communication. Golden Arrow is more action based, Iâve noticed through all the videos Iâve watched online. He prefers to act first and think later. From the little I know about Ringleader, sheâs more strategy based. She wants to have a solid plan before leaping into action. Theyâre very different and itâs easy to tell theyâre still getting used to each other.â
Changkyun nodded, his expression showing he seemed deep in thought. âI agree. Theyâve been together for about a week? Thatâs not a long time for the two to feel each other out. But from the clips Iâve seen, Ringleader seems to be annoyed every time Golden Arrow does something.â
YN let out a humorless laugh. âItâs not like Golden Arrow hides his annoyance any better.â Â
Talking about the superheroes seemed to remind her of her coworker. The image of the man and his failure to cooperate left her irritated all over again. If Changkyun noticed her change in mood, he didnât say anything. Instead he said, âMaybe theyâre too different to make an effective team.â
YN was about to reply, telling Changkyun that they could make a great team if they set aside their differences, but she was distracted by the sudden change in music. It seemed Hyungwon had gotten her list of Latin bops. The familiar sound of Havana filled the club and YN shot up from her bar stool excited. She had taken two more shots and was ready to dance. Changkyun looked at her in surprise, and was even more surprised when she tried to pull him towards the dance floor. Realizing what she was doing, YN blushed.
âSorry, Iâm used to pulling Hwasa to the dance floor. Iâm in the mood to dance right now.â
Changkyun laughed. âItâs cool, but I donât really dance.â
âDance? Did someone say dance?â Hwasa spoke up, Hoseok and Amber also turning to look at the two. âIâm itching to dance.â
âIf you donât mind,â Hoseok added, âI also want to dance.â YN grinned pulling Hwasa toward the dance floor and motioning Hoseok to follow them. The trio left Changkyun and Amber at the bar with Minhyuk. They maneuvered their way through the crowd, YN and Hwasa wanting to get close to the DJ booth to be near Hyungwon. Hwasa waved at Hyungwon from below the booth; he waved at YN and Hwasa and then his eyes wandered to Hoseok beside them. YN noticed the questioning look on Hyungwonâs face, but he went quickly went back to his music. Havana slowly faded and was replaced by Mi Gente. YN excitedly pulls Hwasa closer to her and they begin to dance to the beat. Hoseok seems hesitant to dance near them at first, but Hwasa takes the initiative and pulls him closer to them. YN gives him an encouraging smile and soon heâs dancing and looking as mesmerizing as Hwasa does when she does anything.
âHwasa!â A voice exclaims over the music and Hwasa smiles at the person who called her.
âIâll be back. Theyâre friends from work,â Hwasa yells to YN and Hoseok, leaving them alone before YN can protest. YN felt an awkwardness settling in as she is left to dance with Hoseok alone, a man she had only met a couple times before. However, Hoseok instantly notices her discomfort and gives her an encouraging smile. He leans closer to her to say something in her ear.
âWe can stop if youâre not comfortable dancing with me,â he said. YN thought about it, but her need to dance outweighed her mild feeling of awkwardness. Hoseok wasnât a bad guy and Hwasa would never leave her with someone she didnât think was a good person. YN shook her head and smiled.
âItâs fine, I donât think you bite,â she said, leaning in so he could hear.
Hoseok laughed, the sound ringing in her ears. They were still dancing, now closer than before. YN didnât mind, she was used to dancing like this at the club. Hoseok raised his arm, placing it just a few inches from her waist. He looked at her, silently asking if it was okay. She nodded and he placed his and gently above her waist, not making a move to move it any lower. They continued their dancing and YN was enjoying herself. Hoseok was a good dancer and she fed off his energy. She noticed how he would occasionally lean closer to tell her something and how he would smile at her coyly every time she looked up to meet his eyes. YN was a bit surprised, since she knew Hoseok came off as a bit of a flirt but wasnât expecting him to be so forward so fast. YN thought nothing more of it until she noticed how Hoseok would occasionally look behind them as if he were expecting something to happen. YN followed his eyes towards the DJ booth. Hyungwon was looking in their direction, eyes unreadable but seemingly brimming with some strong emotion. Oh. YN understood. It made sense now. Before she could say something, Hwasa reappeared beside them, embracing YN from behind, hips swaying to the music.
âMiss me?â Hwasa whispered in her ear and YN laughed, arms reaching to pull Hwasa closer. Hoseok looked fondly at the two friends, and excused himself, saying he was going to check on Changkyun. Halfway through the crowd,Â
Hoseok turned back to look at them and when his eyes met YNâs he winked and then disappeared. Hwasa looked at her with amusement.
âWhatâs that all about?â she asked.
âDunno,â YN replied. She decided to ignore it for now and the way Hyungwon looked at her with pursed lips, seemingly conflicted. She wanted to enjoy rest of her night â so she turned to face Hwasa.
âCome one letâs dance till we canât feel out feet.â So, they did exactly that until Amber had to drag them off the dance floor to go home.Â
