Personality: Jase was always a bit of a dreamer, as well as a bit of a “nerd,” favoring writing and books and board games over sports and partying. Jase has always been a natural leader, heading up the games club and the art appreciation club in high school. He was also active on his school’s debate team and chess club. He did track & field throughout high school, mostly because his parents insisted he needed an ‘active’ extracurricular, and kept running in college and beyond. His quiet charm, easy ability to communicate, and wide range of knowledge helped him get a teaching job straight out of college, working first as a sub, then quickly taking on a full-time high school English teacher position, which he did for several years. His thirst for knowledge, team-player attitude, and strong work ethic eventually had him back in school for his master’s, with his eye on becoming a principal. He started first in the Los Angeles Unified School District, but decided after a few years of dealing with all the stress that came with the position, he wanted something a little quieter and slower paced. When the Aurora Bay opportunity came up, he quickly moved. He’s somewhat of an idealist, often romanticizing even the most mundane of activities, or putting too great a value on people too soon. He’s a loyal friend, and on paper an amazing partner, but his quixotic view of the world and occasional lack of urgency with things can get tiresome. Despite a string of long-term relationships and a love of witty rom-coms, he’s never quite made it to the whole ‘marriage’ side of things, and his parents have long given up on the notion of him becoming a ‘family man.’ Still, he’s happy, and a lot of his energy goes into his students, his friends, and his community.

How would your muse react to being abruptly kissed by their crush?

I think it would depend on the scenario. Are we hanging out and is there a sweet moment happening? I'd be into it. Are we in line at the grocery store or the bank or something? I might think it's kind of strange, but I'd still go with it.

Compliments. Sometimes it's just hard to hear the nice words without feeling a little sheepish.

A lot of things, really. I think living in the moment and appreciating what's happening around you makes it easier to just enjoy things and find humor in the little things.

Does your muse like to cook? Would they cook with another?

I can follow recipes pretty well, and maybe even add my own flair to a dish. I can't really concoct things on my own. I make really good scrambled eggs, though. The secret is in the pan temperature, and also in adding a lot of butter--like an ungodly amount of butter.

How is your muse with animals?

I'm fine with them? I don't think I'm the Animal Whisperer or anything, but we get along? I don't have any of my own, but my parents' dogs are great. I've dog-sat when they've gone on trips.

Usually black tea, but I'll drink coffee or hot chocolate, too.

🍍 Pineapple - What is their opinion on pineapple on pizza?

I genuinely don't mind it. I don't eat pork, so I've never actually had a Hawaiian style or ham and pineapple, but I have had pineapple and artichoke, which was good. I tend to think the salty and sweet thing works well together anyway. If you really want to up things, though, add jalapenos as well. Then you get the salty-sweet-spicy trifecta.

It had been a long time since they'd been in a relationship that was more than a fling. Sometimes they missed it, but then they thought about their career and how important it had been to prove her foster mom wrong. "No, but I get it. Everyone has one red flag." And one red flag was nothing. Although some were bigger than others.

She didn't like thinking about dating like that so she really hoped that others didn't either. "I don't know. I think people date because it's expected of them. Like there's so much pressure to find that person." Saki believed there was someone out there for everyone, but people were so worried about getting into a relationship before a certain age that they just dated to date. "I agree."

"There's some of that," he admits with a shrug, "But I think for a lot of people it's also just kind of... written in our biology? As... humans and... primates... Mammals. It's kind of just there. We're social and seek companionship." Jase's lips purse as he considers this more. "Granted, I don't think everybody wants or needs a romantic relationship--however you define that. Some people genuinely are happy with strictly family or friends around. But I don't think it's weird to seek out... the more, you know?" He shifts some in his seat. "At the same time, the world is vast, so I think there can easily be more than one 'person' for someone, or at least more than one that seems to mesh well with them." He raises a hand, shaking his head. "Not that I'm looking for multiple partners or anything. I'm... old school and much more into the one-on-one sort of situation. But yeah I don't think it's weird that you're not looking for the relationship thing. Like... I don't think there's any sort of... requirement?" @sakigrey

"Yeah, it's like when they make the most obviously villainous person on The Traitors one of the traitors because it's so obvious it throws people off because they think 'Well that's too obvious.' Works every time."

She smiles at his reveal of his occupation -- far easier for her to carry on a conversation with than if he'd been an investment banker or something.

"You know, in another lifetime, I probably would have been the best gym teacher ever," she jokes, taking a drink before she continues the conversation.

"I'm a paramedic, I work down at the fire station."

"Exactly," he nods along with her words. "And it's crazy because it should be the obvious choice. But even on all those... true crime shows, it's always 'oh, he was such a nice neighbor...' or 'oh, he used to pick up groceries for the elderly lady down the way...' and very rarely, 'yeah, we suspected that guy had something going on...'" He can't help but smirk. "Oh yeah?" he asks with a playful tone, "Just really enjoy the variety with the athletics stuff or...?" His brows arch and he seems to perk up when she mentions being a paramedic. He has to resist the urge to call her brave or mention the risks of her job, not wanting to make things more weird. "Oh, wow. So you're a literal life-saver." His smile is soft, genuine. "That's really cool. What, um... What made you want to get into that line of work?" @billieconway

"I did let my students pie me in the face one time," he says with a shrug, "But, you know, it was for a school event. But really I have no problem with getting glitter-bombed. Like I said, I think it's fun that you're cool with it." His head tilts to one side as he considers the question. "Oh, yeah. Really, it just depends on which culture's myths you look at. But it's interesting that so many have fae and fairies, isn't it?" His nod is agreeable and easy. "I'm right there with you. Everybody needs whimsy in their lives." @the-nelson-quinn

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

I think I have the professional me and the casual me, but there is a lot of bleed between the two. I don’t really try to present myself as anything other than who I am. I feel like it would be exhausting trying to be different personalities or versions of yourself to different people. I wouldn’t even attempt that.

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?

I think I'm a pretty terrible liar. My main 'tell' would probably be just me cringing or wincing and stumbling over my words as I tried to get through the lie. No, no... It's... Not usually my thing. Unless it's a really random situation, like, you know, if I need to cause an unnecessary diversion so someone can slip out of an event or something. Then I can lie, but it's going to be flimsy at best.

🍦 : what is your muse's favorite ice cream flavor? do they prefer to eat it from a bowl or an ice cream cone?

I'm gonna sound boring if I say vanilla bean, huh? That's honestly my go-to, though. Or else something unique, like lavender lemon or something custom from one of those bougie ice cream shops that charge $10 a scoop. And a cone. Always cone. Preferably waffle.

What do I really think about when I look up at the night sky...? Well... BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?

This Friday, actually. Ha! I usually do a nice dinner and have a glass of whiskey or something. I'll be 44 so I'm a little old for party hats and clowns. Not that I hate parties or anything. Most likely I'll be silly-stringed by a dozen high-schoolers. The kids never let go of the classics!
