“i know clint, and i can act surprised. i’ve actually become pretty good at that.” she admitted with a sheepish smile. “good.” laura wouldn’t vocalise it, but she was glad that clint was going to be the bigger person. be the person to make the first step. “i’m proud of you clint.”

“ i consider a family with more than one child huge but it sounds like you’re taking it to a whole other level. ” she grinned, happy to see someone who cared so much for the well-being of others. or maybe the orphan in her was envious of that fact, of those who received the loving care of a dedicated mother. “ laura, listen… ” she dramatically wiped a fake tear away at the mention of the woman sticking around. “ you are an absolute blessing to this earth and i hope you continue to be that way —— it’s perfect, i don’t think i can thank you more than i already have. ”

“were you an only child?” laura questioned, her head tilting to the side slightly. “but i just like helping people – it’s one of the things i’m good at.” this time there’s a bright smile back to daisy, before her head shook is amusement at the other’s next actions. “you daisy, have a far too high opinion of me for knowing me for such a short time – but i appreciate it. though, you really don’t have to thank me. just taking the food is enough for me.”

      her words inspire a confidence in lila that she hasn’t felt since she arrived in new york. it brings a smile to the girl’s face and she reaches up to wipe away any stray tears that might have attempted escape. ❛ it doesn’t matter whether you’re from my time or this time — you’re still definitely my mom. ❜ she may want to get home, but lila is unbelievably grateful that her mother still very much feels like her mother; it’s a relief in and of it’s own. ❛ uhm. okay, sure. mother-daughter days are always a go. the movies are still just as cheesy. let’s see… i’m student council president. if all goes well, valedictorian next year. ❜ she grins and shakes her head when she speaks again,  ❛ i play softball. i’ve got great aim, no surprise there. big fan of coffee. ❜ she shrugs, chewing on the inside of her cheek as she tries to think of what she can say. it’s kinda hard to talk about herself, as it turns out.  ❛ i’m not really sure what to say. maybe if you have anything you want to know specifically?? ❜

there’s a sad smile but there’s warmth with it, her hands fidgeting awkwardly in her lap. laura was used to comforting her daughter and this was new for her not knowing what to do. her smile widened at lila’s words ( a small hint of reassurance that she was a good mother ). “and you’re always my daughter, lila, never doubt it.” her head nodded as she listened to the other speak, laughter passing her lips slightly. “if you didn’t have good aim, something might have been wrong.” the woman joked lightly, fingers tapping against her knee. “valedictorian would be impressive, but i have faith you’ll get it. but i guess i just want to know that your dad and i are good parents. that we do well by you and your brothers.”

there was a warm smile, a chaste kiss being pressed to the top of wanda’s head. “are you in the mood for comedy or romantic or action? because the kids always have me watching different ones.”

          he laughed, sound low and almost forceful. “tony stark… shit.” he shook his head and ran his fingers down the tip of the arrow. “i should’ve shot that son of a bitch.” his empty eyes glanced back up towards her. “no… just some man… consider it…” he paused. “target practice.” when she stepped away he just took another step, more like two, closer. “laura… no need to be scared… honey… nothing’s wrong… i’m just being who they all want us to be.” there’s a break and the air seems to turn even colder with his just chilling stare. “a criminal.”

eyes followed his movements, jaw setting slightly as she studied him. “you wouldn’t actually shoot tony. it wouldn’t give you the same satisfaction as hitting him.” she remarked, tone soft as she focused on trying to get some sense of her clint back. “you don’t need target practice. you’re too good.” she assured him, body taking yet another step backwards as he moved closer, arms wrapping tightly around her waist. “i’m not scared, clint, just don’t want blood on my coat.” it’s a weak attempt to assure him otherwise, but even laura knows that she was never very good at convincing clint of things. “you’re not a criminal. you’re not what they think you are. deep down this isn’t you.”

if there’s one piece of advice i can give you kiddos, it’s that if your partner has a huge family like mine does and you have a huge family – whatever you do don’t tell both families together you’re expecting because they’ll actually argue over if the child should have an italian name or a romainian name or even a spanish name. and both jack and i are just like we hadn’t even thought about it yet.
