life kinda sucks and i haven’t time to enjoy my comfort media but junior year’s been…. it’s really been a wonderful thing to have this to look forward to every week

You’ve got to understand that this was 2014. I’ve seen some younger lesbian, bi, and queer folks today going, “So what? They held hands. They didn’t even kiss.” Or people watching it for the first time, saying, “I don’t see what the big deal is. There wasn’t any build-up!”

But the landscape of children’s TV was very different six years ago. Like, that moment when they looked into each other’s eyes in a beam of golden light was revolutionary. I was living in a house with other queer people and we ALL screamed and cried, just like this.

Korrasami paved the way for Steven Universe and She-Ra to do what they did in the following years. And, yes, those were leaps forward whereas this was a step. But I saw it on another post, and I’ll echo the sentiment: Korrasami walked so Catradora could sprint.

Same-sex marriage wasn’t legal in the US in 2014.

Not until 2016. Before that, the marriage was only recognized in a few states.

It might not seem like much now, but HOLY FUCK this moment in the finale was huge in 2014.

Legend of Korra was the first Western animated kids’ TV show to portray a same-sex relationship. Not only that, but with a lead character.

It was legendary in 2014 and will always be important in LGBTQ+ media history.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was my idol and my hero. Seeing as a powerful Spreme court justice gave me hope for the future. She gave my strength to stand up to my traditional mother who thought women should be housewives. She gave me strength when I was one of the only females in my engineering classes, and she still does.

She used her position in power to advocate for gender equality, making sure the future generation won’t be discrimaned because of their gender. She was a hero to those who looked up to her.

So thank you! Thank you for RBG, for everything. Rest In Peace, you will be missed.

does anybody else feel the urge to rewatch all of she-ra, just through the lens of 'adora and catra were in love from the start'?

i mean, don't get me wrong. i totally thought they were in love from the start. but it still feels different-- there's what i believe to be true, based on my perception as a lesbian who grew up honing her subtext-tracking skills to perfection because actual gay representation was barely a thing ten, fifteen years ago. and then there's what i know to be true, because it's right there, explicitly, inarguably, in the text. the characters saying 'i have always loved you', 'i love you too', and kissing.

knowing now, for a fact, that this was always the intention -- not just a wink nudge nudge for the gay fans watching, but a concrete, substantial part of those two characters all along-- i mean, it just kind of blows my mind a little. thinking how every writer, voice actor, story artist and animator, every single one, was crafting all those scenes with those two characters, under clear instructions that catra and adora are in love... it's like putting on new glasses. i don't have to squint. i don't have to constantly second-guess myself and tell myself to keep my hopes down, that it's all in my head. it's real! it's there! they love each other and they always have.

so yeah, now i just... really want to rewatch this whole series, while basking in that knowledge. i'm not just a peripherial demographic that was getting thrown breadcrumbs. what i always believed was true.

Before watching s5: Hmm, I’m not sure how I feel about the possibility of Catra being redeemed and getting set up with Adora. She did some pretty despicable things and I don’t even know if it would be possible for her to have a believable redemption arc-

After watching s5 where Catra acknowledges everything she did wrong, apologises and spends the rest of her time onscreen trying to make up for it and becoming a less toxic person, repaying Adora for her stubborn loyalty and engaging in adorably reciprocated flirting, culminating in one of the most beautiful love confession scenes that I’ve ever had the privilege to witness:
