Identification
How does the horse look to contemporary eyes? For thousands of years a fundamental part of life, more recently the horse has been removed to the realms of sport and leisure. And yet these wonderful animals still exert a powerful draw on the imagination. This project explores the horse life through abstract objects. It is to identify the horse and its surroundings through enlarged, square photographs.
Colours and markings, horses exhibit a diverse array of coat colours and distinctive markings, described by a specialised vocabulary. Often, a horse is classified first by its coat colour, before breed or sex. Horses of the same colour may be distinguished from one another by white markings, which, along with various spotting patterns, are inherited separately from coat colour.
Horse Identification.
The horse has been a staple of art since people first painted the walls of their caves. In the history of art, horses have represented power, magnificance and glory. But what do todays artists make of the form?
-Lauren McKenna
The Horse (馬 午) is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. The spirit of the horse is recognised to be the Chinese people's ethos, making unremitting efforts to improve themselves. It is energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able. -Lauren McKenna
Therapeutic Landscapes. by Lauren McKenna In therapy, the person and process become most important and photography is used as a means of nonverbal communication. Photography activity provides a concrete rather than verbal medium through which a person can achieve both conscious and unconscious expression, and can be used as a valuable assistant for therapeutic change. The healing and transformative potential of the arts and their value in supporting mental wellbeing has long been recognized. There is a growing evidence base to support the claims for the impact of the arts on our mental health but still we need to ask, how is photography therapeutic? This question can be best answered with close attention to the nature of the relationship between photography and therapy. With the use of research and case studies, it will reveal how images are created to have a calming peaceful effect on the viewer and are aimed to be used as therapeutic images -Lauren McKenna
An Unexpected Growth - Editing for this project . Two keywords 'death' and 'decay' . Starting to feel a little sick my need to take a break for a bit ....
An Unexpected Notion (First Draft)
Here is my first pick of the seven photos that is for my fist project brief, 2nd year college. It has been taken in the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin. We were given a long list of keywords that our photographs had to fit into as well as showing the environment within the gardens which I believe I engaged in well . The keywords that suit my selection are as follows : air, alive, artificial, colour, dead, flower, growth, hidden, hot, human, natural, organic, plant, public, texture, tree, water, weather.
